    Maxillary lateral incisors with two canals and two separate curved roots

    Variation in the roots and root canal anatomy seems to be the norm rather than an exception. For a successful endodontic treatment, a clinician should have a thorough knowledge of the internal and external dental anatomy and its variations. Maxillary lateral incisors usually exhibit single canal with a single root. In this case, clinical examination and radiographs clearly demonstrates the presence of two root canals with two separate curved roots. This case report emphasizes the need for attention during endodontic management of maxillary lateral incisors

    Oral Health Status and Treatment Needs of School Teachers in Chennai

    Objectives: To assess the oral health status and treatment needs of school teachers in Chennai. Materials & Method: The cluster sampling methodology was used to select the samples. The selection of a school was done in such a way that the particular school type was present in adequate numbers in all the zones. The final sample consisted of 1059 school teachers who were examined from various zones of Chennai. Results: The shallow pockets were seen in 15.8% whereas deep pockets were almost negligible (0.3%); 73.7% had carious lesions with mean DMFT being 4.63±4.04.The most commonly needed treatment modalities were one surface restorations and extraction in 55.2% and 31.4% of subjects respectively. Conclusions: The school teachers had a wide variety of dental diseases/conditions, the most prevalent being periodontal disease and dental caries which increased with age

    An in vitro comparative antibacterial study of different concentrations of green tea extracts and 2% chlorhexidine on Enterococcus faecalis

    Aim : The purpose of this study was to comparatively evaluate the antibacterial property of various concentrations of green tea extracts and 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) against Enterococcus faecalis 0(E. faecalis) in vitro. Materials and Methods: The activity of green tea extract and CHX on E. faecalis was measured on agar plates using the agar diffusion method. In addition, the tube dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration of green tea extract against E. faecalis. Results: The MIC of green tea extract was found to be 3.5%. The zone of inhibition was found to be concentration dependent. The 2.5% concentration of green tea extract showed 20 mm zone of inhibition, while the 3% concentration demonstrated a 30 mm zone of inhibition. Two percent CHX showed 30 mm zone of inhibition. Conclusion: Three percent concentration of green tea extract showed an antibacterial activity equivalent to 2% CHX against E. faecalis
