Evaluation of an Intermittent Six-month Regimen in New Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
Background: The treatment of tuberculosis (TB) with category I regimen of the Revised National Tuberculosis Control
Programme (RNTCP) for patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) needs evaluation.
Objective: To assess the cure and relapse rates in 3 years, among the new smear-positive TB patients with Type-2 DM
(DMTB) treated with CAT-I regimen (2E3H3R3Z3/4R3H3) of RNTCP.
Methodology: TB suspects attending the diabetology units and the TB research centre (TRC) Chennai, were investigated.
Eligible DMTB cases were enrolled. Baseline estimation of cardiac, renal, liver function tests and glycosylated-HBA1c
were undertaken. All patients received 2E3H3R3Z3/4R3H3 under supervision at TRC. Clinical and sputum (smear and
culture) examinations and monitoring of diabetic status were undertaken every month up to 24 months, then once in 3
months up to 36 months.
Results: Of 100 patients admitted, 7 were excluded for various reasons from analysis. Of 93 patients, 87 (94%) had a
favourable response at the end of treatment. Pre and post treatment mean glycosylated-HBA1c were 9.7% and 8.4
%.(>7% poor control). During follow-up period, 6 died and one lost to follow-up. Of the remaining, four relapsed.
Conclusion: Category-I regimen, recommended for all the new smear-positive patients in the Indian TB programme, is
effective in the treatment of DMTB patients, despite poor control of diabetes
Implementation of Dwell Timer For Fast WiMAX Handoff of Ping Pong Calls
AbstractThe WiMAX technology is becoming the way to avert the impending crisis of rural Connectivity .The next-generation Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks, using the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) as the core technology is evolving as a Fourth-Generation (4G) technology for providing ubiquitous computing solutions. WiMAX has taken WMAN networks to next level. It is important to analyze the drawbacks in WiMAX networks. Ping pong effect has been one of the major issues in WiMAX networks. The best possible way of avoiding this effect is to prevent the MS from immediately switching to the TBS when communication is in process since it may result in call dropping. Introducing Dwell timer in BS's has been suggested to overcome this effect. This paper deals with the Analysis of the channel performance after implementing Dwell timer by various Modulation techniques. QPSK and BPSK were taken into consideration for the performance analysis. A Comparative study is made on these modulation techniques with respect to factors like throughput and delay
Search for the Lepton-Number-Violating Decay
A sensitive search for the lepton-number-violating decay has been performed using a sample of hyperons
produced in 800 GeV/ -Cu collisions. We obtain at 90% confidence, improving on the best

MAGSAT for geomagnetic studies over Indian region
The external current field due to ring current and the associated induced part were removed. Adjacent passes over India were elected and best function to account for the trend correction was estimated. The UPCON software sent from Canada was made operational and features of equatorial electrojet were studied from MAGSAT records
Measurement of the Alpha Asymmetry Parameter for the Omega- to Lambda K- Decay
We have measured the alpha parameter of the Omega- to Lambda K- decay using
data collected with the HyperCP spectrometer during the 1997 fixed-target run
at Fermilab. Analyzing a sample of 0.96 million Omega- to Lambda K^-, Lambda to
p pi- decays, we obtain alpha_Omega*alpha_Lambda =
[1.33+/-0.33(stat)+/-0.52(syst)] x 10^{-2}. With the accepted value of
alpha_Lambda, alpha_Omega is found to be [2.07+/-0.51(stat)+/-0.81(syst)] x

Evidence for the Decay Sigma+ -> p mu+ mu-
We report the first evidence for the decay Sigma+ -> p mu+ mu- from data
taken by the HyperCP experiment(E871) at Fermilab. Based on three observed
events, the branching ratio is B(Sigma+ -> p,mu+,mu-) = [8.6 +6.6,-5.4(stat)
+/-5.5(syst)] x 10**-8. The narrow range of dimuon masses may indicate that the
decay proceeds via a neutral intermediate state, Sigma+ -> p P0, P0 -> mu+ mu-,
with a P0 mass of 214.3 +/- 0.5 MeV/c**2 and branching ratio B(Sigma+ -> p P0;
P0 -> mu+ mu-) = [3.1 +2.4,-1.(stat) +/-1.5(syst)] x 10**-8.Comment: As published in PR
Observation of Parity Violation in the Omega-minus -> Lambda + K-minus Decay
The alpha decay parameter in the process Omega-minus -> Lambda + K-minus has
been measured from a sample of 4.50 million unpolarized Omega-minus decays
recorded by the HyperCP (E871) experiment at Fermilab and found to be [1.78 +/-
0.19(stat) +/- 0.16(syst)]{\times}10^{-2}. This is the first unambiguous
evidence for a nonzero alpha decay parameter, and hence parity violation, in
the Omega-minus -> Lambda + K-minus decay.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
