    Prospective study of radiation related adverse events and its management in cancer patient at tertiary care teaching hospital

    Background: Radiation therapy is associated with certain adverse events which may cause significant discomfort to patient and may affect patient’s life. The objective of the study was to assess radiation related adverse events in the patients who are on radiation therapy and to prevent and manage these adverse events.Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 193 patients receiving radiotherapy in Oncology Department at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, Punjab. One fraction (2 Gray) dose had been given to patients daily for five days in a week and monitor. The collected data was analyzed by applying IBM SPSS v21.Results: The clinical results observed in 193 consecutive patients with follow-up of 7 weeks and graded according to RTOG Acute Radiation Morbidity Scoring Criteria. Majority of events were reported in age group of 41-60 years followed by 61-80 years, 20-40 years. Epidermal, mucosal, Genitourinary and Lower G.I. reactions are graded. The reactions managed by providing symptomatic treatment.Conclusions: Radiation related adverse events have been found frequently in patients with radiotherapy and chemo-radiotherapy both. As the number of doses increase with time the grade of reactions also increases. Appropriate follow-up and management of these events reduces patient burden of treatment

    The proportion of individuals with mental disorders receiving evidence based treatments in India is very small. In order to address this huge treatment gap, programme for improving mental health care is being implemented in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, India. The aim of this study was to complete the situational analysis consisting of two parts; document review of Sehore district mental health programme followed by a qualitative study. The findings suggest that there are major health system challenges in developing and implementing the mental health care plan to be delivered through primary health care system in Sehore district

    Progressive-Regressive Strategy for Biometrical Authentication

    This chapter thoroughly investigates the use of the progressive–regressive strategy for biometrical authentication through the use of human gait and face images. A considerable amount of features were extracted and relevant parameters computed for such an investigation and a vast number of datasets developed. The datasets consist of features and computed parameters extracted from human gait and face images from various subjects of different ages. Soft-computing techniques, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), principal component analysis and the forward–backward dynamic programming method were applied for the best-fit selection of parameters and the complete matching process. The paretic and non-paretic characteristics were classified through Naïve Bayes’ classification theorem. Both classification and recognition were carried out in parallel with test and trained datasets and the whole process of investigation was successfully carried out through an algorithm developed in this chapter. The success rate of biometrical authentication is 89%

A detailed analysis of the fingerprint would help the researchers to find the inborn talents. It will provide them the most appropriate learning habits from young age and improve learning ability effectively.     Preparing for Solar and Heliospheric Science with the SKAO: An Indian Perspective

    The Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) is perhaps the most ambitious radio telescope envisaged yet. It will enable unprecedented studies of the Sun, the corona and the heliosphere and help to answer many of the outstanding questions in these areas. Its ability to make a vast previously unexplored phase space accessible, also promises a large discovery potential. The Indian solar and heliospheric physics community have been preparing for this science opportunity. A significant part of this effort has been towards playing a leading role in pursuing science with SKAO precursor instruments.     In-Vitro Evidences for the Formulation, Development, and Evaluation of Budesonide Oral Nano-sponges

    Idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease is quite common, with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease being the most common forms. Due to its high receptor affinity and quick diversion, the anti-inflammatory effects of the glucocorticoid budesonide are limited, but it is nevertheless useful in some situations. A unique BUD nano-sponges was developed by employing quasi-solvent diffusion and Eudragit S-100 as the polymer to address the problem of low efficacy and accessibility. Material and Methods: Drug release profile and percentage of drug entrapment in BUD Nano sponges were also measured and analyzed. Clinical activity score, colon/body weight ratio, and macroscopic ulceration activity were among the criteria used in an in vivo investigation of the formulation in male Wistar rats. Finally, histological investigation was done on colon tissue samples. Results: When compared to other BUD formulations on the market, this one performed exceptionally well, suggesting that the designed nanosponges are highly effective. The Wistar rats' clinical activity score was reduced when treated with the formed nanosponges. When compared to the placebo group, those who took this supplement saw a dramatic decrease in their colon weight ratio. Nanosponge colon histology revealed healthy colon anatomy and architecture.     A study of arteriovenous crossing patterns in branch retinal vein occlusion

    Introduction: Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) almost always occurs at an arteriovenous crossing, where the artery and vein share a common adventitial sheath. Aim: The study was designed to evaluate the anatomic position of the crossing vessels at the site of occlusion in a case of BRVO. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted among 20 BRVO patients attending Ophthalmology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital during the period of September 2013 to August 2014. A semi structured questionnaire was used to evaluate the sociodemographic characters and co-morbidity among the patients. The fundus of the patients were examined with 90D lens under slit lamp and the fundus photographs were taken. Results: Twenty patients were considered in the study. Eleven were male and nine were female patients. Mean age of the male group was 50.09±4.94 years. Mean age of the female group was 49.33±3.77 years. In all, there were 21 eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion. Out of which 11 were left eyes, eight were right eyes and one patient was having occlusion in both the eyes. In BRVO cases, among 17(80.9%) eyes, the artery was anterior to the vein and in the remaining 4(19.1%) eyes the vein was anterior to the artery. No statistically significant difference was observed regarding the position of artery and vein in BRVO and control eyes (p=0.9). The superiotemporal occlusions were more in number 13 (61.9%) as compared to inferiotemporal occlusions in 8 (38.1%) eyes. Amajority 17(85%) of patients were hypertensive. Conclusion: In the present study the incidence of artery anterior to the vein was higher compare to vein anterior to the artery, the knowledge of which is useful to understand the patho-physiology and management of BRV
