Spin-Dependent Quantum Emission in Hexagonal Boron Nitride at Room Temperature
Optically addressable spins associated with defects in wide-bandgap
semiconductors are versatile platforms for quantum information processing and
nanoscale sensing, where spin-dependent inter-system crossing (ISC) transitions
facilitate optical spin initialization and readout. Recently, the van der Waals
material hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has emerged as a robust host for
quantum emitters (QEs), but spin-related effects have yet to be observed. Here,
we report room-temperature observations of strongly anisotropic
photoluminescence (PL) patterns as a function of applied magnetic field for
select QEs in h-BN. Field-dependent variations in the steady-state PL and
photon emission statistics are consistent with an electronic model featuring a
spin-dependent ISC between triplet and singlet manifolds, indicating that
optically-addressable spin defects are present in h-BN a versatile
two-dimensional material promising efficient photon extraction, atom-scale
engineering, and the realization of spin-based quantum technologies using van
der Waals heterostructures.Comment: 38 pages, 34 figure
Analysis of Voltage Transfer Characteristics of Nano-scale SOI CMOS Inverter with Variable Channel Length and Doping Concentration
During many decades, continuous device performance improvement has been made possible only
through device scaling. But presently, due to aggressive scaling at the sub-micron or nanometer region, the
conventional planner silicon technology is suffering from the fundamental physical limits. Such imposed
limits on further downscaling of silicon planner technology have lead to alternative device technology like
Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology. Due-to some of its inherent advantages, the Silicon-On-Insulator
(SOI) technology has reduced the Short-channel-effects (SCEs) and thus increased transistor scalability.
Till now, intense research interests have been paid in practical fabrication and theoretical modeling of SOI
MOSFETs but a little attention has been paid to understand the circuit level performance improvement
with nano-scale SOI MOSFETs. The circuit level performance analysis of SOI MOSFET is highly essential
to understand the impact of SOI technology on next level VLSI circuit and chip design and for doing so device
compact models are high on demand. In such scenario, under present research, a physics based compact
device model of SOI MOSFET has been developed. At the first phase of the compact model development,
a physics based threshold voltage model has been developed by solving 2-D Poisson’s equation at the
channel region and at the second phase, a current-voltage model has been developed with drift-diffusion
analysis. Different SCEs, valid at nano-scale, are effectively incorporated in threshold voltage and Current-Voltage
model. At the third phase, using the compact model, the Voltage Transfer Characteristics
(VTC) for a nano-scale SOI CMOS inverter has been derived with graphical analysis. The impacts of different
device parameters e.g.; channel length and channel doping concentration on VTC has been investigated
through simulation and the results have been analyzed
Recrystallization of epitaxial GaN under indentation
We report recrystallization of epitaxial (epi-) GaN(0001) film under
indentation.Hardness value is measured close to 10 GPa, using a Berkovich
indenter. Pop-in burst in the loading line indicates nucleation of dislocations
setting in plastic motion of lattice atoms under stress field for the
recrystallization process. Micro-Raman studies are used to identify the
recrystallization process. Raman area mapping indicates the crystallized
region. Phonon mode corresponding to E2(high) close to 570 cm-1 in the as-grown
epi-GaN is redshifted to stress free value close to 567 cm-1 in the indented
region. Evolution of A1(TO) and E1(TO) phonon modes are also reported to
signify the recrystallization process.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures
Investigation Into the Humaneness of Slaughter Methods for Guinea Pigs (Cavia porcelus) in the Andean Region
Guinea pigs (Cavia porcelus) are an important source of nonhuman animal protein in the Andean region of South America. Specific guidelines regarding the welfare of guinea pigs before and during slaughter have yet to be developed. This study critically assessed the humaneness of 4 different stunning/slaughter methods for guinea pigs: cervical neck dislocation (n = 60), electrical head-only stunning (n = 83), carbon dioxide (CO(2)) stunning (n = 21), and penetrating captive bolt (n = 10). Following cervical neck dislocation, 97% of guinea pigs had at least 1 behavioral or cranial/spinal response. Six percent of guinea pigs were classified as mis-stunned after electrical stunning, and 1% were classified as mis-stunned after captive bolt. Increased respiratory effort was observed during CO(2) stunning. Apart from this finding, there were no other obvious behavioral responses that could be associated with suffering. Of the methods assessed, captive bolt was deemed the most humane, effective, and practical method of stunning guinea pigs. Cervical neck dislocation should not be recommended as a slaughter method for guinea pigs
Corrosion Behaviour of Metals in Artificial Tear Solution
Human tear comes in contact with a number of instruments during operation in the eyes. This results in a variety of undesirable effects such as corrosion and malfunction. Corrosion behaviour of five metals, namely, mild steel (MS), mild steel coated with zinc (MS-Zn), Ni-Cr, Ni-Ti super elastic (Ni-Ti.SE), and SS 316 L in artificial tear solution has been studied by polarization study and AC impedance spectra. The study reveals that the decreasing order of corrosion resistance in artificial tear solution is : Ni-Ti SE > Ni-Cr > SS 316 L > MS-Zn > MS. The first three metals are better candidates and the first one is the best candidate for making instruments used in operation in the eyes, in presence of tears
Multiple Dens Invaginatus - A case report and review of literature
Dens invaginatus is a developmental variation of a tooth resulting from an alteration in the normal growth pattern of the dental papilla. It is clinically characterized by a palatine furrow that can be limited to the coronal pulp or may extend to the radicular apex. The commonly affected tooth is maxillary lateral incisor. The occurrence of multiple dens invaginatus is extremely rare. Although a clinical examination may reveal a deep pit or fissure on the lingual surfaces of maxillary anterior teeth, the radiographic examination is the choice for diagnosis of dens invaginatus. Familiarity with the radiographic appearance of this anomaly is essential for the dental practitioner. The purpose of this paper is to present a clinical case of multiple dens invaginatus involving maxillary anterior teeth which was diagnosed during routine radiographic evaluation
Anxious medico with nicotine patch: a case report
We often suffer more in our imaginations than in reality. Anxiety is a terrible experience, you could even have an attack and no one would even know most of the times because it is an inward thing. People do get anxious and experience this feeling most of the times in life. Up to an extent its normal as much as it can be controlled if not this unpleasant feeling overrules. We learn to combat this feeling as the age passes but it also depends on different environmental, social occupational factors and the level of stress to overcome can be difficult. Many non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods are available to combat anxiety disorder. Self-medications can be occupational hazard and is strongly entrenched within the culture of both physicians and medical students as an accepted way to buffer their work performance. We are reporting a case of an anxious medico self-medicated to combat anxiety.
Analysis of prescription pattern of antihypertensive medication and adherence to Beers criteria in geriatric department of a tertiary care hospital in Mysuru
Background: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the prescription pattern of anti-hypertensive drugs and adherence to Beers’ criteria in geriatric department of JSS Hospital, Mysuru.Methods: An observational, prospective, cross-sectional study was carried out in geriatric department. The basic demographic information and prescriptions of geriatric patients were studied. Descriptive analysis was used to present the results, prescriptions were analysed and checked for adherence to Beers’ criteria.Results: Out of 485 patients, 82.68% received monotherapy, 15.87% received 2-drug combination therapy and 1.4% received 3-drug combination therapy. Among patients receiving monotherapy, angiotensin receptor blockers (49.06%) was the commonest antihypertensive class of drug prescribed. Telmisartan (38.96%) was the commonest drug prescribed. Among 2-drug combination therapy angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and Calcium channel blockers were combined commonly. In 3-drug combination therapy angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, beta blockers and diuretics were combined commonly. 99.3% of prescriptions were adhered to 2015 American Geriatrics Society Beers criteria.Conclusions: Almost 82% of the patients were treated with monotherapy. The trends in prescribing of anti-hypertensives were in favor of conventional ones such as Angiotensin receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, diuretics, beta blockers and centrally acting alpha agonists. 99.3% of prescriptions were in accordance with the American Geriatrics Society 2015 Updated Beers criteria
