Rapid development of road infrastructure in Malaysia has led to better researched of asphaltic concrete mixtures. Currently, the conventional Marshall method is widely used to design flexible pavement with bituminous surfacing as wearing course in Malaysia. In 1987 to 1993, strategic highway research program (SHRP) developed a new concept for the design of asphaltic mixtures referred to as Superior Performing Asphalt Pavement (Superpave). This evolvement has certainly improved the asphaltic concrete mixtures especially in terms of the compaction mode. In this study, four different types of mix that meet both Superpave and Malaysian gradation limits were developed and designed using both Superpave and Marshall method. Specimens from both types of mix were also prepared at the optimum asphalt contents. The specimens were also subjected to moisture induced damage test and Indirect Tensile Strength test. Volumetric analyses of the mixes showed that the optimum asphalt content and voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) of the Superpave mixtures is lower than Marshall mixtures. An average of 30 and 20 percent increment in tensile strength is evident for Superpave mixtures conducted for 12.5mm and 9.5mm mixtures compared to Marshall designed mix. However, all mixtures are able to resist deterioration due to moistur

Strategi berkomunikasi generasi muda Melayu: analisis lakuan bahasa penolakan

Distribution and localities of Java medaka fish (Oryzias javanicus) in Peninsular Malaysia

The Java medaka (Oryzias javanicus) has recently been highlighted as potential indicator for tropical aquatic ecosystem. However, unlike its Japanese counterpart the Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) which has been extensively studied, little information can be obtained on Java medaka population in Malaysia. Despite the growing interest and studies on the fish in the Asian region, its distribution and locality are not well known and this complicates sampling activity in the field as well as obtaining living specimen for laboratory culture purposes. Java medaka population can be easily found in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and can withstand wide range of salinity level from estuary and brackish water to freshwater river. However, the fish is not present in the east coast and several factors contributing to their non-distribution are discussed in this paper. The finding provides the first record on the detailed occurrence and distribution of Java medaka fish in Peninsular Malaysia and can also serve as a guide for fish collectors or enthusiast in the country to engage closely with the subject

Preparation and modification of activated carbon from oil-palm shell and its adsorption capacity through speciation of chromium

    Get PDF
A preparation and modification of activated carbon from oil-palm shell has been investigated in this paper. A pretreatment method has been established to avoid partial fusion and swelling in the carbonization stage. Carbonization has been studied at different temperatures and the structure of the microporous chars has been characterized. Activated carbon has been prepared from steam gasification of chars obtained at 800 OC. This activation increases both total and narrow microporosity and develops a substantial mesoporosity. Activated carbon with different pore size distribution is impregnated with zirconium chloride and iron chloride salts to give impregnated carbon with different metals loading. The presence of active metal on an impregnated activated carbon surface greatly affects the adsorption affinity since some inorganic compounds will then be adsorbed preferentially

Review on Southeast Asian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Localisation Strategies

    Get PDF
There is a scarcity of research on the localisation strategies for the Southeast Asian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ROSES review approach recommends 17 papers from the SCOPUS Journal for a Systematic Literature Review on discovering Southeast Asian SDG localisation strategies. Green initiatives and policy measures, stakeholder collaborations, and participatory procedures were revealed to be three primary themes in Southeast Asia’s SDG localisation efforts after further thematic analysis of the articles. Due to a paucity of country reporting, the findings cannot be generalised. However, it is still significant, and additional research into SDG localisation is needed. Fault detection and diagnosis for process control rig using artificial intelligent

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on the application of artificial intelligent techniques in fault detection and diagnosis. The objective of this paper is to detect and diagnose the faults to a process control rig. Fuzzy logic with genetic algorithm method is used to develop fault model and to detect the fault where this task is performed by using the error signals, where when error signal is zero or nearly zero, the system is in normal condition, and when the fault occurs, error signals should distinctively diverge from zero. Meanwhile, neural network is used for fault classification where this task is performed by identifying the fault in the system

Developing effective students communication in engineering mathematics

The Malaysian workplace needs graduates with employability skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and ability to communicate. In 2006, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has integrated these goals in undergraduate education but studies at UTM have indicated that the goals have not been translated into successful implementation. In this presentation, we will share how we had implemented an integrated approach which addressed students’ knowledge, thinking, problem solving and generic skills, in particular, communication. We had developed a framework which was used to guide our instructions in Engineering Mathematics I since 2009/2010 session, in Engineering Mathematics II since 2010/2011, and in Differential Equations since 2012/2013 session. The same strategies were implemented in Malaysia Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT, UTM KL) in Engineering Mathematics III for the 2011/2012 and 2013/2014 sessions

    Get PDF
A technique for the modelling of nonlinear process control using Recursive Least Square and Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy System with Genetic Algorithm topology is described. This paper discusses the identification of parameters of the fuzzy sets at the antecedent part and linear model at the consequent part of fuzzy model within an application to process control. The key issues of finding the best model of the process are described. Results show that fuzzy model with genetic algorithm gives minimum mean squared error compare with recursive least square

The Effects of Green Image of Retailers on Shopping Value and Store Loyalty

    Get PDF
AbstractThis study aims at examining the influence of green image on shopping value and store loyalty. Convenience sampling using quota sampling was used to collect data of a sample of 565 consumers. Using structural equation modeling, it was found that green image of retailers has no significant relationship with store loyalty but has a significant influence on shopping value. Shopping value appears to mediate the relationship between green image of retailers and store loyalty. The result provides important findings to researchers and practitioners as well as implications for future research directions and management of the retail industry
