    Decomposition of color wavelet with higher order statistical texture and convolutional neural network features set based classification of colorectal polyps from video endoscopy

    Gastrointestinal cancer is one of the leading causes of death across the world. The gastrointestinal polyps are considered as the precursors of developing this malignant cancer. In order to condense the probability of cancer, early detection and removal of colorectal polyps can be cogitated. The most used diagnostic modality for colorectal polyps is video endoscopy. But the accuracy of diagnosis mostly depends on doctors' experience that is crucial to detect polyps in many cases. Computer-aided polyp detection is promising to reduce the miss detection rate of the polyp and thus improve the accuracy of diagnosis results. The proposed method first detects polyp and non-polyp then illustrates an automatic polyp classification technique from endoscopic video through color wavelet with higher-order statistical texture feature and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM) is used for higher-order statistical texture features of different directions (Ɵ = 0o, 45o, 90o, 135o). The features are fed into a linear support vector machine (SVM) to train the classifier. The experimental result demonstrates that the proposed approach is auspicious and operative with residual network architecture, which triumphs the best performance of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 98.83%, 97.87%, and 99.13% respectively for classification of colorectal polyps on standard public endoscopic video databases

    A Study on Multiresolution based Image Fusion Rules using Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets

    The purpose of image fusion is to create a single image that optimizes the amount of data also highlight the necessary information from two or more source images. There are various types of pixel based image fusion methods such as AVG, Principle Component Analysis (PCA), Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS), Brovey Transform (BT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) etc. But Stationary wavelet Transform (SWT) based fusion method provides better fusion result with less color distortion. On the other-hand, Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IFS) helps to remove the barrier of vagueness and uncertainties from the fused image. That is why; this paper focus several types of fusion methods using SWT with different IFS operations for find the better one that is helpful for human perception also for next generation image processing.

    Novel pH-dependent regulation of human cytosolic sialidase 2 (NEU2) activities by siastatin B and structural prediction of NEU2/siastatin B complex

    Human cytosolic sialidase (Neuraminidase 2, NEU2) catalyzes the removal of terminal sialic acid residues from glycoconjugates. The effect of siastatin B, known as a sialidase inhibitor, has not been evaluated toward human NEU2 yet. We studied the regulation of NEU2 activity by siastatin B in vitro and predicted the interaction in silico. Inhibitory and stabilizing effects of siastatin B were analyzed in comparison with DANA (2-deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acetylneuraminic acid) toward 4-umbelliferyl N-acetylneuraminic acid (4-MU-NANA)- and α2,3-sialyllactose-degrading activities of recombinant NEU2 produced by E. coli GST-fusion gene expression. Siastatin B exhibited to have higher competitive inhibitory activity toward NEU2 than DANA at pH 4.0. We also revealed the stabilizing effect of siastatin B toward NEU2 activity at acidic pH. Docking model was constructed on the basis of the crystal structure of NEU2/DANA complex (PDB code: 1VCU). Molecular docking predicted that electrostatic neutralization of E111 and E218 residues of the active pocket should not prevent siastatin B from binding at pH 4.0. The imino group (1NH) of siastatin B can also interact with D46, neutralized at pH 4.0. Siastatin B was suggested to have higher affinity to the active pocket of NEU2 than DANA, although it has no C7–9 fragment corresponding to that of DANA. We demonstrated here the pH-dependent affinity of siastatin B toward NEU2 to exhibit potent inhibitory and stabilizing activities. Molecular interaction between siastatin B and NEU2 will be utilized to develop specific inhibitors and stabilizers (chemical chaperones) not only for NEU2 but also the other human sialidases, including NEU1, NEU3 and NEU4, based on homology modeling

    Creek`s Aquaculture Techniques in Rangamati Hill Tracts of Bangladesh

    An experiment was conducted in nine suitable (average .10±2 ha) creeks of Rangamati hill tracts Bangladesh viz., of Langadu, Naniarchar and Sadar Upazila for evaluating growth, survival and production performance of Indian major carps (Labeo rohita, Catla catla, Cirrhinus mrigala) in a completely randomized design into three different treatments with three replications for a period of one year. Stocking density, growth, survival was checked periodically and total yield calculated from stocking and harvesting data. A significant spatial variation in specific growth rate (SGR) and yields was found despite uniform stocking densities, attributable to variation in environmental parameters. Among the results rohu was found to have comparatively higher SGR of 1.51±0.55 in Naniarchar where as langadu creek was reported with higher SGR of 1.46±0.94, 1.57±0.41 and 1.46 ±.64 for rohu catla, and mrigal. Rangamati sadar Upazilla creek was found to be conducive to Catla with a SGR of 1.55±.78. In general, higher gross and net productions were reported from Sadar Upazilla, Langadu and Naniarchar creeks, suggestive of its suitability for developing creeks aquaculture technology. However research findings will help the community of Chittagong hill tracts by giving appropriate technology for sustainable fish production in creeks

    Microsatellite and minisatellite markers based DNA fingerprinting and genetic diversity of blast and ufra resistant genotypes.

    A total of 78 alleles and 29 loci were detected from nine microsatellite and three minisatellite markers, respectively across 26 blast and ufra disease resistant genotypes. For blast resistant genotypes, the Polymorphic Information Content (PIC) values ranged from 0.280 to 0.726 and RM21 was considered as the best marker. PIC values ranged from 0.5953 to 0.8296 for ufra resistant genotypes and RM23 was the best marker for characterization of ufra resistant genotypes. The genetic similarity analysis using UPGMA clustering generated nine clusters with coefficient of 0.66 for blast resistant genotypes while five genetic clusters with similarity coefficient of 0.42 for ufra resistant genotypes. In order to develop resistant varieties of two major diseases of rice, hybridisation should be made using the parents, BR29 and NJ70507, BR36 and NJ70507 for blast, while BR11 and Aokazi, BR3 and Aokazi, Rayda and BR3 and Rayda and BR11 for ufra

    ANCA-negative Churg-Strauss Syndrome

    A rare and a disease of unknown etiology, Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a granulomatous necrotizing small vessel vasculitis characterized by the presence of asthma, sinusitis, and hypereosinophilia, which is initially described by Churg and Strauss in 1951. Because of its clinical and pathological features that overlap with those of the other anti-neutrophil antibody (ANCA)-associated systemic vasculitides (AASVs) and now the disease is classified as AASVs. The ANCA status may dictate the clinical phenotype. ANCA-positive patients are significantly more likely to have disease manifesta­tions associated with small-vessel vasculitis, including oecrotising glomemlonephritis, mononeuritis and purpura, whereas ANCA-negative cases predominantly likely to have cardiac and lung involvement. The objective of this case report is to point out the possibility of vasculitic rash in ANCA-negative CSS in a 35-year-old man and the disease rarely occurs in Bangladeshi population. We analyze the history, clinical examinations and relevant investigations related to the patient to establish the diagnosis in our department. The clinical scenario and biopsy help us to attain the diagnosis. But due to unavailability of patients' cohort we have limitations of comparison of ANCA status in Bangladeshi populations. Though ANCA-positive and ANCA-negative CSS differ phenotypically, primary therapy for both the conditions is systemic glucocorticoids. Additional immunosuppressive agents like cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, rituxin1ab are occasionally added in patients with more advanced or refractory disease

    Emphysematous pyelonephritis is an acute necrotizing infection of the renal parenchyma, prompt diagnosis and early treatment is crucial because of the high rate of mortality. We report a case of a 55-year-old female patient with ten-year history of diabetes mellitus presented with pain in right flank, fever and malaise. She was diagnosed as a case of emphyse­matous pyelonephritis, and was successfully treated in our department. The case is presented along with a literature review

    Outcome of tetanus patients admitted in Rangpur Medical College Hospital

    Background: Tetanus remains one of the major public health hazards of the developing world. Mortality is much lower in the developed world because of the availability of facilities, unlike in most developing countries' Objectives: This study was aimed to determine the outcome of tetanus patients admitted in infectious disease unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Methods: A total of 91 cases of tetanus patients were seen in the 18 month period with a mean of 5 cases per month; they are diagnosed and managed for tetanus in the medical wards from January 2011 to June 2012. The data were retrieved from their case records and analyzed. Results: There were thirty one deaths, accounting for an overall mortality of 34.16o.Total fifty six patients were cured among which sixteen (17.67%) were cured with complication and four (4.4%) patient were absconded. Mortality was high 45.84% (11 patients out of 24) ?40 years age, whereas low 29.85 (20 patient out of 87) in <40 yea15 age (45.84% vs 29.85%). Mortality rate was also higher among female than male patients (34.66% vs 33.85%). Farmers experienced more death than non-farmer (4l.l8% vs 29-82%, P<0.05). Mortality was higher in patients who had not received any medical treatment for their wound than in patients who had received it for their wound (52.78% vs 21.81%, p<0.05). Patients with short incubation period of less than one week had higher mortality in comparison with those who had incubation period more than one week (53.33% vs 23.25%, P<0'05). Of the 91 patients, fifty six (64.34%) were alive, though four remained in a persistent vegetative state due to tetanus toxin-induced brain damage and another two required a below knee amputation of the left leg. Hence, 40 were discharged well and 16 were discharged with permanent disabilities. Conclusion: The case fatality rate of tetanus has remained consistently high in the medical college. Factors that were significantly associated with high mortality included older age, and incubation period of less than 7 days. It is recommended that preventive immunization against tetanus be given to all Bangladeshis with secondary vaccination at adulthood

    Drosophila Sirt2/mammalian SIRT3 deacetylates ATP synthase beta and regulates complex V activity

    Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase beta, the catalytic subunit of mitochondrial complex V, synthesizes ATP. We show that ATP synthase beta is deacetylated by a human nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+))-dependent protein deacetylase, sirtuin 3, and its Drosophila melanogaster homologue, dSirt2. dsirt2 mutant flies displayed increased acetylation of specific Lys residues in ATP synthase beta and decreased complex V activity. Overexpression of dSirt2 increased complex V activity. Substitution of Lys 259 and Lys 480 with Arg in human ATP synthase beta, mimicking deacetylation, increased complex V activity, whereas substitution with Gln, mimicking acetylation, decreased activity. Mass spectrometry and proteomic experiments from wild-type and dsirt2 mitochondria identified the Drosophila mitochondrial acetylome and revealed dSirt2 as an important regulator of mitochondrial energy metabolism. Additionally, we unravel a ceramide-NAD(+)-sirtuin axis wherein increased ceramide, a sphingolipid known to induce stress responses, resulted in depletion of NAD(+) and consequent decrease in sirtuin activity. These results provide insight into sirtuin-mediated regulation of complex V and reveal a novel link between ceramide and Drosophila acetylome
