A study of productivity in optometric practice: Its relation to manpower and planning

    Get PDF
A survey of all optometrists in HEW Region X was implemented to assess a number of practice characteristics . Relationships between practice characteristics and productivity were demonstrated and changing trends in these characteristics were determined. Age, years in practice, utilization of supplementary personnel, and practice mode were found to bear a direct relationship to productivity. It was shown that manpower projections must take current trends in these characteristics into account in order to be valid

Reform Judaism in America: the Chosen Identity of the Chosen People

    No full text
The topic of this Independent Study is the modem identity of Reform Jews in America and factors within the twentieth century that have influenced this identity. Within the paper, the question of whether Judaism is a religion or a culture is frequently addressed. This paper begins with a discussion of Thesis and how the author became interested in the topic. It then moves on to the first chapter, which is about the history of Reform Judaism, starting in Europe prior to the emancipation of French Jews in 1789 and ending with Reform Judaism in twentieth century America. The next chapter deals with Reform Jewish identity in America, discussing the idea of an identity crisis suffered by modem Reform Jews, and then moving on to a discussion of the identity that modem Jews have chosen for themselves. The Six-Day War in the Middle East is the next topic addressed. The chapter discusses how this war had a large effect on the American Reform Jewish population of the 1960\u27s and, in fact, caused the Jews of that time period to take new pride in their Jewish identity. The fourth, and final, chapter discusses Reform Jewish feminism and why it is needed by many females in order to have a strong sense of their Jewish identity. The paper concludes with the thoughts of the author regarding the topics addressed

    Profile of the successful recruiter.

This thesis develops and analyzes a model to identify attributes of a successful recruiter. Expert Systems software is used to elicit from twenty U.S. Army recruiters and instructors, who are experts in the field, characteristics associated with recruiter success. An interactive computer program based on Quasi-Artificial Intelligence (QAI) captured the expert's intuition, knowledge, experience, and judgements to create expert systems that can be used to select U.S. Army recruiters before they attend recruiting school. This study found that personal characteristics such as Integrity and Commitment, and skills such as Persuading and Listening are substantially more important than the types of attributes generally used to predict recruiter success.http://archive.org/details/profileofsuccess00gandLieutenant, United States NavyApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited

    USAR recruiting success factors

This study attempts to identify attributes associated with successful recruiters, to evaluate existing data on recruiter performance and characteristics, and to develop a model to aid in the selection of personnel who are likely to become successful recruiters. Conventional multivariate statistical techniques have not proved adequate in identifying successful recruiters, largely because of the absence of reliable and valid measures of recruiter success. This study applies a relatively new methodology, expert systems, to the recruiter selection problem. Composite models were constructed using expert systems developed for 6 Active Guard and Reserve Army recruiters; and for 10 Regular Army recruiters. These systems evaluated the relative importance of 6 dimensions, including both biodemographic/background traits and behavior/personality characteristics. Recommendations for the application, testing and improvement of this prototype methodology are presented. Revision of the paraphyletic genus Koerneria Meyl, 1960 and resurrection of two other genera of Diplogastridae (Nematoda)

Recent inferences of phylogeny from molecular characters, as well as a reexamination of morphological and biological characters, reject the monophyly of the nematode genus Koerneria Meyl, 1960 (Diplogastridae). Here, Koerneria sensu lato is revised. The genus, which previously consisted of 40 species, is separated into three genera. Almost all of the transferred species are moved to the resurrected genus Allodiplogaster Paramonov & Sobolev in Skrjabin et al. (1954). Koerneria and Allodiplogaster are distinguished from each other by a weakly vs. clearly striated body surface, an undivided vs. divided stomatal cheilostom, and arrangement of the terminal ventral triplet of male genital papillae, namely in that v5 and v6 are paired and separated from v7 vs. v5–v7 being close to each other. Allodiplogaster is further divided into two groups of species, herein called the henrichae and striata groups, based on both morphological and life-history traits. The henrichae group is characterized by papilliform labial sensilla and male genital papillae, a conical tail in both males and females, and an association with terrestrial habitats and insects, whereas the striata group is characterized by setiform labial sensilla and male genital papillae, an elongated conical tail in both sexes, and an association with aquatic habitats. A second genus, Anchidiplogaster Paramonov, 1952, is resurrected to include a single species that is characterized by its miniscule stoma and teeth, unreflexed testis, and a distinct lack of male genital papillae or stomatal apodemes. Lastly, one further species that was previously included in Koerneria sensu lato is transferred to the genus Pristionchus Kreis, 1932. The revision of Koerneria sensu lato is necessitated by the great variability in its subordinate taxa, which occupy a variety of habitats, in addition to the increased attention to Diplogastridae as a model system for comparative mechanistic biology
