    Classical and Quantum Mechanics of Anyons

    We review aspects of classical and quantum mechanics of many anyons confined in an oscillator potential. The quantum mechanics of many anyons is complicated due to the occurrence of multivalued wavefunctions. Nevertheless there exists, for arbitrary number of anyons, a subset of exact solutions which may be interpreted as the breathing modes or equivalently collective modes of the full system. Choosing the three-anyon system as an example, we also discuss the anatomy of the so called ``missing'' states which are in fact known numerically and are set apart from the known exact states by their nonlinear dependence on the statistical parameter in the spectrum. Though classically the equations of motion remains unchanged in the presence of the statistical interaction, the system is non-integrable because the configuration space is now multiply connected. In fact we show that even though the number of constants of motion is the same as the number of degrees of freedom the system is in general not integrable via action-angle variables. This is probably the first known example of a many body pseudo-integrable system. We discuss the classification of the orbits and the symmetry reduction due to the interaction. We also sketch the application of periodic orbit theory (POT) to many anyon systems and show the presence of eigenvalues that are potentially non-linear as a function of the statistical parameter. Finally we perform the semiclassical analysis of the ground state by minimizing the Hamiltonian with fixed angular momentum and further minimization over the quantized values of the angular momentum.Comment: 44 pages, one figure, eps file.     A Conceptual Study to Identify the Problems & Challenges in Current Training Systems in it Industries

    Purpose: To understand the problems and challenges faced by organization today on current training systems. The purpose of this research was to describe factors affecting the employee to participate in training & development programs in the organization. Theoretical Framework: The framework is formulated based on relationship between current training trends and its associated problems & challenges.   Design/Methodology/Approach: A total of 227 employees from various organizations based in Techno Park and InfoPark based in Kerala. Simple random sampling technique was used, and factor analysis performed to test the hypothesis. Online Questionnaires were used for data collection and analysed using descriptive statistics like percentages and presented using tables, charts, and figures.   Findings: The study established that traditional training methods won’t be much effective and serves the need of current generation. Custom tailor-made training design and methods are highly recommended to make the training programs effective and that create interest among employees to upskill themselves through training and development opportunities provided by organizations.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This study helps the organization and top management to understand the learning gap of employees due to difference in training trends. It will also help employees to perform well adopting to latest training trends which in turn results high productivity.   Originality/value: This article is a contribution to the Human Resource/Training Department to propose the challenges and its solutions for practitioners and trainers

    AbstractEver increasing need of electricity has paved the need for Smart Grids. Smart Meters, digitalized networks and fault tolerant systems are the basic infrastructure which supports Smart Grid. Security in Smart Grid has become a major concern in the present scenario. In this paper we have proposed security architecture at the last mile distribution in Home Area Networks. A Secure communication architecture has been modeled which focuses on secure data transmission between the Smart Meters at home and Central Gateway at the utility centre. Hybrid Encryption algorithms and Digital Signature has been used to provide data integrity. The strength of the model has been verified with the help of an attacker and the model is found to resist attacks. The Encryption time and Decryption time of the cyptostack is lower when compared with other encryption algorithms

    Menopause rating scale: a simple tool for assessment of climacteric symptoms

    Background: Menopause is a physiological event, a unique stage of a female reproductive system and transition in life that occurs in all women who reach midlife. The clinical consequence of menopause is due to estrogen deficiency. Some of menopausal symptoms experienced by these women can be severe enough to affect their normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, majority of these women are not aware of the changes brought about by menopause. Objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of different menopausal symptoms and their severity according to menopause rating scale and their impact on quality of life.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted by the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Yenopaya Medical College, Mangalore between June 2020 to August 2020. A total of 210 women who are between the age of 40 and 65 years who had their last menstrual period of at least 1 year ago and were included in the study.Results: In the study majority of subjects were in the age group 46 to 50 years (42.9%). In the study there was significant association between general health and hot flushes, heart discomfort, depressive mood, irritability, physical and mental exhaustion, bladder problems and joint and muscular pain. There was no significant association between general health and sleep problem, anxiety, sexual problems and dryness of vagina.Conclusion: The menopausal rating scale can be used an effective tool while examining the patients for menopausal symptoms. Regular screening of such women can make a huge difference, and their quality of life can be improved

    Evaluation of antidepressant activity of hydro-alcoholic extract of rhizomes of Nardostachys jatamansi DC per se and in combination with fluoxetine in wistar albino rats and swiss albino mice

    Background: Depression is a common mental disorder results due to deficiency of neurotransmitter in the brain. Various medicinal properties of jatamansi are mentioned in Ayurveda. This study evaluated effect of hydro-alcoholic extract of rhizomes of Nordostachys jatamansi DC per se and in combination with fluoxetine in wistar albino rats and swiss albino mice.Methods: Animals of either sex were selected and randomly divided in test group. Jatamansi extract 10:1 and fluoxetine hydrochloride dissolved in distilled water were used. Animals were tested for forced swimming test, tail suspension test and locomotor after given test drug. Results were compared with control and analysed.Results: Nardostachys jatamansi DC, when given to rats showed dose dependent increase in number of rotation during forced swimming test in rats. During forced swimming test in glass jar statistically significant decrease in immobility was observed. Nardostachys jatamansi DC, when given to mice dose dependent statistically significant decrease in immobility time, swimming time and climbing observed. When given along with combination of fluoxetine it shows statistically significant difference in result, confirmed that it can have synergistic antidepressant activity. When used for locomotor activity in mice none of the test drugs significantly increase or decrease the locomotor activity.Conclusions: Jatamansi showed antidepressant like property in various tests conducted on rats and mice. It showed statistically significant result with increasing dose and had synergic effect when given along with fluoxetine

    Intercomparison of soil hydrology modules in the MIT Integrated Global System Model for analysis of climate issues

The goal of this thesis is to determine if better hydrological representation in the MIT Integrated Global System Model will improve its climate prediction capability. This thesis compares the performances of the hydrological modules in the MIT Climate Model and the Natural Emissions Model (NEM) with the off-line National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Land Surface Model (LSM version 1.0) for Ecological, Hydrological, and Atmospheric Studies. The models are forced with the First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Field Experiment (FIFE) data, and outputs are validated using FIFE Intensive Field Campaigns measurements. Validation and analyses include comparisons between daily and diurnal model outputs and FIFE measurements, and evaluations of diurnal root mean square errors (RMSE). All three models simulate FIFE conditions well. The NEM is particularly good at tracing the diurnal trend of most diagnostic parameters; but the large and numerous fluctuations in this model's outputs result in large diurnal RMSEs as well. Many of the errors in this model are due to deficient representation of soil moisture movement in its shallow soil column. The deep lower soil layer in the hydrological module in the Climate Model over-drains the thin upper soil layer; the dryness of the upper layer adversely affects energy partition at the land-atmosphere boundary. The NCAR LSM avoids many of the problems encountered with the other two modules and simulates FIFE conditions best; the doubled computational requirement is its main drawback.     A computational framework for identifying design guidelines to increase the penetration of targeted nanoparticles into tumors

    Targeted nanoparticles are increasingly being engineered for the treatment of cancer. By design, they can passively accumulate in tumors, selectively bind to targets in their environment, and deliver localized treatments. However, the penetration of targeted nanoparticles deep into tissue can be hindered by their slow diffusion and a high binding affinity. As a result, they often localize to areas around the vessels from which they extravasate, never reaching the deep-seeded tumor cells, thereby limiting their efficacy. To increase tissue penetration and cellular accumulation, we propose generalizable guidelines for nanoparticle design and validate them using two different computer models that capture the potency, motion, binding kinetics, and cellular internalization of targeted nanoparticles in a section of tumor tissue. One strategy that emerged from the models was delaying nanoparticle binding until after the nanoparticles have had time to diffuse deep into the tissue. Results show that nanoparticles that are designed according to these guidelines do not require fine-tuning of their kinetics or size and can be administered in lower doses than classical targeted nanoparticles for a desired tissue penetration in a large variety of tumor scenarios. In the future, similar models could serve as a testbed to explore engineered tissue-distributions that arise when large numbers of nanoparticles interact in a tumor environment.Human Frontier Science Program (Strasbourg, France)David H.
