A Comparative Study of Code Query Technologies
When analyzing software systems we are faced with the challenge of how to implement a particular analysis for different programming languages. A solution for this problem is to write a single analysis using a code query language abstracting from the specificities of languages being analyzed. Over the past ten years many code query technologies have been developed, based on different formalisms. Each technology comes with its own query language and set of features. To determine the state of the art of code querying we compare the languages and tools for seven code query technologies: Grok, Rscript, JRelCal, SemmleCode, JGraLab, CrocoPat and JTransformer. The specification of a package stability metric is used as a running example to compare the languages. The comparison involves twelve criteria, some of which are concerned with properties of the query language (paradigm, types, parametrization, polymorphism, modularity, and libraries), and some of which are concerned with the tool itself (output formats, interactive interface, API support, interchange formats, extraction support, and licensing). We contextualize the criteria in two usage scenarios: interactive and tool integration. We conclude that there is no particularly weak or dominant tool. As important improvement points, we identify the lack of library mechanisms, interchange formats, and possibilities for integration with source code extraction components
Using Computer-assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) to Re-examine Traditionally Analyzed Data: Expanding our Understanding of the Data and of Ourselves as Scholars
As diverse members of a college of education evaluation committee one of our charges is to support faculty as we document and improve our teaching. Our committee asked faculty to respond to three qualitative questions, documenting ways in which interdepartmental and cross-department conversations are used to promote reflective thinking about our practice. Three of us investigated the use of CAQDAS to provide an additional level of analysis and how we learned more about ourselves as scholars through this collaboration. Our findings include recommendations regarding the use of CAQDAS to support collaborative efforts by diverse scholars
Schwinger boson study of the -- kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions
Schwinger boson mean field theory is a powerful approach to study frustrated
magnetic systems which allows to distinguish long range magnetic orders from
quantum spin liquid phases, where quantum fluctuations remain strong up to zero
temperature. In this work, we use this framework to study the Heisenberg model
on the Kagome lattice with up to third nearest neighbour interaction and
Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) antisymmetric exchange. This model has been argued
to be relevant for the description of transition metal dichalcogenide bilayers
in certain parameter regimes, where spin liquids could be realized. By means of
the projective symmetry group classification of possible ans\"atze, we study
the effect of the DM interaction at first nearest neighbor and then compute the
- phase diagram at different DM angles. We find a new phase
displaying chiral spin liquid characteristics up to spin , indicating an
exceptional stability of the state
