    Electronic structure of cubic SrHfO₃: Ferroelectric stability and detailed comparison with SrTiO₃

    Electronic structure calculations of cubic SrTiO₃ and SrHfO₃ are presented. The full-potential linear augmented-plane-wave method is used and exchange-correlation effects are treated by the local-density approximation. The tendency to ferroelectricity of both compounds is explored and compared by displacing the transition metal atom (Ti or Hf) towards one of the oxygens (001 direction). The calculations show that ferroelectricity is favored in SrTiO₃ with respect to SrHfO₃ and that this fact may be correlated with the degree of hybridization between transition metal d-O p bands as has been found for other related systems. We detected in radial velocities evidence of a possible second planet with minimum mass m c sin i c = 5.8 ± 1.9 M ⊕ and orbital period P c = 5.21 - 0.22 + 0.26 years. The analysis of photometric data and spectro-scopic activity diagnostics does not explain the signal in terms of a stellar activity cycle, but follow-up is required in the coming years for confirming its planetary origin. We show that the existence of the planet can be ascertained, and its true mass can be determined with high accuracy, by combining Gaia astrometry and radial velocities. Proxima c could become a prime target for follow-up and characterization with next-generation direct imaging instrumentation due to the large maximum angular separation of ~1 arc second from the parent star. The candidate planet represents a challenge for the models of super-Earth formation and evolution.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio

    Three-body structure of low-lying 18Ne states

    We investigate to what extent 18Ne can be descibed as a three-body system made of an inert 16O-core and two protons. We compare to experimental data and occasionally to shell model results. We obtain three-body wave functions with the hyperspherical adiabatic expansion method. We study the spectrum of 18Ne, the structure of the different states and the predominant transition strengths. Two 0+, two 2+, and one 4+ bound states are found where they are all known experimentally. Also one 3+ close to threshold is found and several negative parity states, 1-, 3-, 0-, 2-, most of them bound with respect to the 16O excited 3- state. The structures are extracted as partial wave components, as spatial sizes of matter and charge, and as probability distributions. Electromagnetic decay rates are calculated for these states.     Lepton Flavor Violation in the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III

    We consider the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) of type III which leads to Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) at tree level in the leptonic sector. In the framework of this model we can have, in principle, two situations: the case (a) when both doublets acquire a vacuum expectation value different from zero and the case (b) when only one of them is not zero. In addition, we show that we can make two types of rotations for the flavor mixing matrices which generates four types of lagrangians, with the rotation of type I we recover the case (b) from the case (a) in the limit tanβ\tan \beta \to \infty , and with the rotation of type II we obtain the case (b) from (a) in the limit tanβ0.\tan \beta \to 0. Moreover, two of the four possible lagrangians correspond to the models of types I and II plus Flavor Changing (FC) interactions. The analitical expressions of the partial lepton number violating widths Γ(μeee)\Gamma (\mu \to eee) and Γ(μeγ)\Gamma (\mu \to e\gamma) are derived for the cases (a) and (b) and both types of rotations. In all cases these widths go asymptotically to zero in the decoupling limit for all Higgses. We present from our analysis upper bounds for the flavour changing transition μe,\mu \to e, and we show that such bounds are sensitive to the VEV structure and the type of rotation utilized.Comment: 7 pages RevTeX4, 4 figures postscript, new section added and some new reference

    Current experimental data from the g2g-2 muon factor, seems to show the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is 2.6σ\sigma . In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavour Changing (FC) Yukawa couplings in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs (mA0m_{A^0}) as a function of the parameters of the model.Comment: 12 pages, RevTex4, 5 figures.     On MSSM charged Higgs boson production in association with an electroweak W boson at electron positron colliders

    We present a calculation of the cross section for the process e+ e- --> W+/- H-/+ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and the Two Higgs Doublet Model (THDM). We study the basic features of the MSSM prediction for some distinctive parameter scenarios. We find large effects from virtual squarks for scenarios with large mixing in the stop sector which can lead to a cross section vastly different from a THDM with identical Higgs sector parameters. We investigate this interesting behaviour in more detail by thoroughly scanning the MSSM parameter space for regions of large cross section. For a charged Higgs boson too heavy to be pair-produced at such a machine, it turns out that a large MSSM cross section with a good chance of observation is linked to a squark mass scale below 600 GeV and a considerable amount of mixing in either the stop and sbottom sector.Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures (two in colour).     First Results from the IBIS/ISGRI Data Obtained During the Galactic Plane Scan. II. The Vela Region

    We report on INTEGRAL/IBIS observations of the Vela region during a Galactic Plane Scan (hereafter GPS) presenting the IBIS in-flight performances during these operations. Among all the known sources in the field of view we clearly detect 4U 0836-429, Vela X-1, Cen X-3, GX 301-2, 1E 1145.1-6141, and H0918-549 in the 20-40 keV energy range. Only Vela X-1 and GX 301-2 are detected in the 40-80 keV energy range, and no sources are visible above.     Latin American chronic urticaria registry (CUR) contribution to the understanding and knowledge of the disease in the region

    Chronic urticaria (CU) has a widespread spectrum on causal or exacerbating factors, clinical manifestations, therapeutic response and quality of life affectation. Registries are useful tools in several real-life diagnosis and management approach. We aimed to evaluate the characteristics of CU patients living in Latin America through an original cross-sectional registry with data entered by regional allergologists. Results: Three hundred patients were included, being 72% female, with median age of 36 years (1\u201385) and 20 months of CU median evolution time. The cause of CU was reported as unknown in 72% of them. Thirty-nine percent of suspected cases presented positive serology for Mycoplasma, positive autologous serum skin test (ASST) was reported in 47%, and occasional presence of thyroid or antinuclear autoantibodies and parasites. The impact of pruritus in their quality of life was moderate to severe in 60% of patients, with almost 3 out of four patients having partial or lack of urticaria control with anti-histamines. Conclusions: Our registry provides retrospective data on the real-life assistance of a large number of patients from the region. Continuous search for associated conditions and better treatment possibilities are needed, in order to control the significant impact on quality of life and the length of disease

    Quantum Quenches in Extended Systems

    We study in general the time-evolution of correlation functions in a extended quantum system after the quench of a parameter in the hamiltonian. We show that correlation functions in d dimensions can be extracted using methods of boundary critical phenomena in d+1 dimensions. For d=1 this allows to use the powerful tools of conformal field theory in the case of critical evolution. Several results are obtained in generic dimension in the gaussian (mean-field) approximation. These predictions are checked against the real-time evolution of some solvable models that allows also to understand which features are valid beyond the critical evolution. All our findings may be explained in terms of a picture generally valid, whereby quasiparticles, entangled over regions of the order of the correlation length in the initial state, then propagate with a finite speed through the system. Furthermore we show that the long-time results can be interpreted in terms of a generalized Gibbs ensemble. We discuss some open questions and possible future developments.Comment: 24 Pages, 4 figure
