Variety of idempotents in nonassociative algebras
In this paper, we study the variety of all nonassociative (NA) algebras from
the idempotent point of view. We are interested, in particular, in the spectral
properties of idempotents when algebra is generic, i.e. idempotents are in
general position. Our main result states that in this case, there exist at
least nontrivial obstructions (syzygies) on the Peirce spectrum of a
generic NA algebra of dimension . We also discuss the exceptionality of the
eigenvalue which appears in the spectrum of idempotents in
many classical examples of NA algebras and characterize its extremal properties

MC-Simulation of the Transverse Double Spin Asymmetry for RHIC
Using {\sc Sphinx tt}, a new MC simulation program for transverse polarized
nucleon--nucleon scattering based on {\sc Pythia~5.6}, we calculate the
transverse double spin asymmetry in the Drell-Yan process. If one
assumes (quite arbitrarily) that the transversity parton distribution equals the helicity distribution at some low
scale, the resulting asymmetry is of order 1\%. In this case is

Banded mongooses avoid inbreeding when mating with members of the same natal group
Inbreeding and inbreeding avoidance are key factors in the evolution of animal societies, influencing dispersal and reproductive strategies which can affect relatedness structure and helping behaviours. In cooperative breeding systems, individuals typically avoid inbreeding through reproductive restraint and/or dispersing to breed outside their natal group. However, where groups contain multiple potential mates of varying relatedness, strategies of kin recognition and mate choice may be favoured. Here, we investigate male mate choice and female control of paternity in the banded mongoose (Mungos mungo), a cooperatively-breeding mammal where both sexes are often philopatric and mating between relatives is known to occur. We find evidence suggestive of inbreeding depression in banded mongooses, indicative of a benefit to avoiding breeding with relatives. Successfully breeding pairs were less related than expected under random mating, which appeared to be driven by both male choice and female control of paternity. Male banded mongooses actively guard females to gain access to mating opportunities, and this guarding behaviour is preferentially directed towards less closely related females. Guard-female relatedness did not affect the guardâs probability of gaining reproductive success. However, where mate-guards are unsuccessful they lose paternity to males that are less related to the females than themselves. Together our results suggest that both sexes of banded mongoose use kin discrimination to avoid inbreeding. Although this strategy appears to be rare among cooperative breeders, it may be more prominent in species where relatedness to potential mates is variable, and/or where opportunities for dispersal and mating outside of the group are limited
Strangeness in the nucleon and the ratio of proton-to-neutron neutrino-induced quasi-elastic yield
The electroweak form factors of the nucleon as obtained within a three flavor
pseudoscalar vector meson soliton model are employed to predict the ratio of
the proton and neutron yields from , which are induced by quasi-elastic
neutrino reactions. These predictions are found to vary only moderately in the
parameter space allowed by the model. The antineutrino flux of the up-coming
experiment determining this ratio was previously overestimated. The
corresponding correction is shown to have only a small effect on the predicted
ratio. However, it is found that the experimental result for the ratio
crucially depends on an accurate measurement of the energy of the knocked out

Exploring the proton spin structure
Understanding the spin structure of the proton is one of the main challenges
in hadronic physics. While the concepts of spin and orbital angular momentum
are pretty clear in the context of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, the
generalization of these concepts to quantum field theory encounters serious
difficulties. It is however possible to define meaningful decompositions of the
proton spin that are (in principle) measurable. We propose a summary of the
present situation including recent developments and prospects of future

Efficient and Compact Representations of Some Non-canonical Prefix-Free Codes
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-46049-9_5[Abstract] For many kinds of prefix-free codes there are efficient and compact alternatives to the traditional tree-based representation. Since these put the codes into canonical form, however, they can only be used when we can choose the order in which codewords are assigned to characters. In this paper we first show how, given a probability distribution over an alphabet of ÏÏ characters, we can store a nearly optimal alphabetic prefix-free code in o(Ï)o(Ï) bits such that we can encode and decode any character in constant time. We then consider a kind of code introduced recently to reduce the space usage of wavelet matrices (Claude, Navarro, and Ordóñez, Information Systems, 2015). They showed how to build an optimal prefix-free code such that the codewordsâ lengths are non-decreasing when they are arranged such that their reverses are in lexicographic order. We show how to store such a code in O(ÏlogL+2Ï”L)O(ÏlogâĄL+2Ï”L) bits, where L is the maximum codeword length and ϔϔ is any positive constant, such that we can encode and decode any character in constant time under reasonable assumptions. Validation of the Work Observation Method By Activity Timing (WOMBAT) method of conducting time-motion observations in critical care settings: an observational study
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Electronic documentation handling may facilitate information flows in health care settings to support better coordination of care among Health Care Providers (HCPs), but evidence is limited. Methods that accurately depict changes to the workflows of HCPs are needed to assess whether the introduction of a Critical Care clinical Information System (CCIS) to two Intensive Care Units (ICUs) represents a positive step for patient care. To evaluate a previously described method of quantifying amounts of time spent and interruptions encountered by HCPs working in two ICUs.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Observers used PDAs running the Work Observation Method By Activity Timing (WOMBAT) software to record the tasks performed by HCPs in advance of the introduction of a Critical Care clinical Information System (CCIS) to quantify amounts of time spent on tasks and interruptions encountered by HCPs in ICUs.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We report the percentages of time spent on each task category, and the rates of interruptions observed for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and unit clerks. Compared with previously published data from Australian hospital wards, interdisciplinary information sharing and communication in ICUs explain higher proportions of time spent on professional communication and documentation by nurses and physicians, as well as more frequent interruptions which are often followed by professional communication tasks.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Critical care workloads include requirements for timely information sharing and communication and explain the differences we observed between the two datasets. The data presented here further validate the WOMBAT method, and support plans to compare workflows before and after the introduction of electronic documentation methods in ICUs.</p
Dirac Equation with Spin Symmetry for the Modified P\"oschl-Teller Potential in -dimensions
We present solutions of the Dirac equation with spin symmetry for vector and
scalar modified P\"oschl-Teller potential within framework of an approximation
of the centrifugal term. The relativistic energy spectrum is obtained using the
Nikiforov-Uvarov method and the two-component spinor wavefunctions are obtain
are in terms of the Jacobi polynomials. It is found that there exist only
positive-energy states for bound states under spin symmetry, and the energy
