The Electronic States of Two Oppositely doped Mott Insulators Bilayers
We study the effect of Coulomb interaction between two oppositely doped
low-dimensional tJ model systems. We exactly show that, in the one-dimensional
case, an arbitrarily weak interaction leads to the formation of charge neutral
electron-hole pairs. We then use two different mean-field theories to address
the two-dimensional case, where inter-layer excitons also form and condense. We
propose that this results in new features which have no analog in single
layers, such as the emergence of an insulating spin liquid phase. Our simple
bilayer model might have relevance to the physics of doped Mott insulator
interfaces and of the new four layer Ba2CaCu4O8 compound.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Microstrip resonator for microwaves with controllable polarization
In this work the authors implemented a resonator based upon microstrip
cavities that permits the generation of microwaves with arbitrary polarization.
Design, simulation, and implementation of the resonators were performed using
standard printed circuit boards. The electric field distribution was mapped
using a scanning probe cavity perturbation technique. Electron spin resonance
using a standard marker was carried out in order to verify the polarization

Analysis of the temperature influence on Langmuir probe measurements on the basis of gyrofluid simulations
The influence of the temperature and its fluctuations on the ion saturation
current and the floating potential, which are typical quantities measured by
Langmuir probes in the turbulent edge region of fusion plasmas, is analysed by
global nonlinear gyrofluid simulations for two exemplary parameter regimes. The
numerical simulation facilitates a direct access to densities, temperatures and
the plasma potential at different radial positions around the separatrix. This
allows a comparison between raw data and the calculated ion saturation current
and floating potential within the simulation. Calculations of the
fluctuation-induced radial particle flux and its statistical properties reveal
significant differences to the actual values at all radial positions of the
simulation domain, if the floating potential and the temperature averaged
density inferred from the ion saturation current is used.Comment: Submitted to Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusio
Unusual behaviours and Impurity Effects in the Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor CePt3Si
We report a study in which the effect of defects/impurities, growth process,
off-stoichiometry, and presence of impurity phases on the superconducting
properties of noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si is analysed by means of the
temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth. We found that the
linear low-temperature response of the penetration depth -indicative of line
nodes in this material- is robust regarding sample quality, in contrast to what
is observed in unconventional centrosymmetric superconductors with line nodes.
We discuss evidence that the broadness of the superconducting transition may be
intrinsic, though not implying the existence of a second superconducting
transition. The superconducting transition temperature systematically occurs
around 0.75 K in our measurements, in agreement with resistivity and ac
magnetic susceptibility data but in conflict with specific heat, thermal
conductivity and NMR data in which Tc is about 0.5 K. Random defects do not
change the linear low-temperature dependence of the penetration depth in the
heavy-fermion CePt3Si with line nodes, as they do in unconventional
centrosymmetric superconductors with line nodes.Comment: To appear in New Journal of Physic
Lande g-tensor in semiconductor nanostructures
Understanding the electronic structure of semiconductor nanostructures is not
complete without a detailed description of their corresponding spin-related
properties. Here we explore the response of the shell structure of InAs
self-assembled quantum dots to magnetic fields oriented in several directions,
allowing the mapping of the g-tensor modulus for the s and p shells. We found
that the g-tensors for the s and p shells show a very different behavior. The
s-state in being more localized allows the probing of the confining potential
details by sweeping the magnetic field orientation from the growth direction
towards the in-plane direction. As for the p-state, we found that the g-tensor
modulus is closer to that of the surrounding GaAs, consistent with a larger
delocalization. These results reveal further details of the confining
potentials of self-assembled quantum dots that have not yet been probed, in
addition to the assessment of the g-tensor, which is of fundamental importance
for the implementation of spin related applications.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Blockade of adenosine A2A receptors prevents protein phosphorylation in the striatum induced by cortical stimulation
©2006 Society for NeurosciencePrevious studies have shown that cortical stimulation selectively activates extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) phosphorylation and immediate early gene expression in striatal GABAergic enkephalinergic neurons. In the present study, we demonstrate that blockade of adenosine A2A receptors with caffeine or a selective A2A receptor antagonist counteracts the striatal activation of cAMP–
protein kinase A cascade (phosphorylation of the Ser845 residue of the glutamate receptor 1 subunit of the AMPA receptor) and mitogenactivated protein kinase (ERK1/2 phosphorylation) induced by the in vivo stimulation of corticostriatal afferents. Reptilia, Squamata, Amphisbaenia, <i>Amphisbaena cuiabana</i> (Strussmann and Carvalho, 2001): Range extension in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil
