    Nutrição De Tithonia Diversifolia E Atributos Do Solo Adubado Com Biofertilizante Em Sistema Irrigado

    The fertilization with biofertilizer associated with the use of irrigation favors nutrient uptake by plants and soil chemical properties; however, these effects are little studied in Tithonia diversifolia in semiarid regions. This study evaluated the effect of doses of bovine biofertilizer and irrigation on accumulation of nutrients in the leaves of Tithonia diversifolia plants and on soil chemical attributes. The study was carried out from December 3, 2014 to November 28, 2015, and arranged in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, consisting of five doses of bovine biofertilizer (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 m3 ha-1), combined with and without irrigation. The experiment was set in a randomized block design, using three replicates. Irrigation promoted increased accumulation of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu and B in leaves of Tithonia diversifolia in the first cutting. However, the high bicarbonate concentration in the irrigation water and the occurrence of rainfall during the second crop increased the accumulation of Cu in the leaves of Tithonia diversifolia under rainfed condition, compared with irrigated plants. The increase in biofertilizer doses contributed to the increment of base saturation and the contents of organic matter, P and K in soil. © 2016, Departamento de Engenharia Agricola - UFCG/Cnpq.     Indirect effects of Daily Self-Control Demands on Subjective Vitality via Ego Depletion - How Daily Psychological Detachment Pays Off

    The present study uses a within‐person approach to provide insights into day‐specific dynamics in the relation between self‐control demands at work and well‐being. Integrating arguments derived from the Limited Strength Model of Self‐Control and research on spillover processes, we develop and test a theoretical model of how the adverse effects of day‐specific self‐control demands at work may spill over to the home domain. Specifically, we propose ego depletion at home (an indicator of regulatory resource depletion) as a mediator linking self‐control demands on a given working day to reduced subjective vitality at home (an indicator of well‐being)

    Effects of an SEL program in a diverse population of low achieving secondary education students

    Adolescents’ social-emotional skills are associated with positive outcomes in psychosocialhealth and success in education and work. In this study, we examined the effectiveness ofSkills4Life, a Social Emotional Learning program for preparatory vocational secondaryeducation aimed at enhancing self-awareness, social awareness, self-management,relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Low-achieving students withadditional educational needs participated in a quasi-experimental study, with anintervention (N 465) and a control group (N 274). We assessed the outcomes onsocial-emotional skills and psychosocial health using self-report questionnaires at pre-test(T0), after finishing the basic module (T1), and after finishing the internship module (T2).Multi-level regression analyses indicated no overall effects on the outcomes at T1 and T2.After completing the entire program at T2, students from non-western backgrounds hadsignificantly unfavorable lower scores on social awareness and relationship skills. Positiveeffects were found on self-management and preparation for internships in students taughtby experienced professional trainers compared to students taught by regular classroomteachers at T2.     What are the most essential social-emotional skills?: Relationships between adolescents’ social-emotional skills and psychosocial health variables: an explorative cross-sectional study of a sample of students in preparatory vocational secondary education

    ​​​​​​​IntroductionUniversal school-based social-emotional learning (SEL) programs target several social-emotional skills assuming a relationship between the skills and psychosocial health outcomes. However, greater insight into the relationship is required to clarify the skills that are most crucial to address. It will support the development and refinement of SEL programs. This study investigated 1) the relationship among the social-emotional skills, 2) the association between the skills and psychosocial health variables, and 3) the mediating effect of the skills on psychosocial variables.MethodsUsing self-report questionnaires (N = 796) completed by adolescent students (aged 14-18) in preparatory vocational tracks in Dutch secondary education, associations were identified between five SEL skills and two psychosocial health variables, emotional-behavioral difficulties, and prosocial behavior.ResultsThere was a high degree of overlap between the five skills (self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making). The skills were univariately associated with emotional-behavioral difficulties and prosocial behavior. In the multivariate model, self-management most strongly correlated with emotional-behavioral difficulties and mediated the relationship between self-awareness and emotional-behavioral difficulties. Social awareness showed the highest correlation with prosocial behavior and mediated the relationship between prosocial behavior and three other skills: self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.DiscussionSelf-management and social awareness seem to be the central skills to promote the psychosocial health outcomes of students in preparatory vocational secondary education tracks.     O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os atributos bioquímicos envolvidos na defesa da bananeira ao ataque do fungo M. fijiensis, notadamente avaliar o papel da enzima fenilalanina amônia liase nesta resposta, nas variedades Caprichosa, Garantida, FHIA-18, Prata Ken, Prata Anã, Maçã e Grande Naine, nos tempos: 0, 6h, 24h, 48h, 72h dias após a inoculação. Após a coleta, as folhas foram pesadas e obtidos os extratos totais por meio de maceração das folhas com tampão acetato de sódio 50 mM, pH 5,2, os quais foram utilizados nas determinações de proteínas e atividade enzimática

    Measuring Black Hole Spin using X-ray Reflection Spectroscopy

    I review the current status of X-ray reflection (a.k.a. broad iron line) based black hole spin measurements. This is a powerful technique that allows us to measure robust black hole spins across the mass range, from the stellar-mass black holes in X-ray binaries to the supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei. After describing the basic assumptions of this approach, I lay out the detailed methodology focusing on "best practices" that have been found necessary to obtain robust results. Reflecting my own biases, this review is slanted towards a discussion of supermassive black hole (SMBH) spin in active galactic nuclei (AGN). Pulling together all of the available XMM-Newton and Suzaku results from the literature that satisfy objective quality control criteria, it is clear that a large fraction of SMBHs are rapidly-spinning, although there are tentative hints of a more slowly spinning population at high (M>5*10^7Msun) and low (M<2*10^6Msun) mass. I also engage in a brief review of the spins of stellar-mass black holes in X-ray binaries. In general, reflection-based and continuum-fitting based spin measures are in agreement, although there remain two objects (GROJ1655-40 and 4U1543-475) for which that is not true. I end this review by discussing the exciting frontier of relativistic reverberation, particularly the discovery of broad iron line reverberation in XMM-Newton data for the Seyfert galaxies NGC4151, NGC7314 and MCG-5-23-16. As well as confirming the basic paradigm of relativistic disk reflection, this detection of reverberation demonstrates that future large-area X-ray observatories such as LOFT will make tremendous progress in studies of strong gravity using relativistic reverberation in AGN.Comment: 19 pages.     ATIVIDADE LEISHMANICIDA in vitro DE FRAÇÕES DO EXTRATO HIDROALCOÓLICO DAS FOLHAS DE Chenopodium ambrosioides L.

    A leishmaniose é uma doença infecciosa causada por protozoários do gênero Leishmania e representa sério problema de saúde pública em paises da África, Ásia e América Latina. Chenopodium ambrosioides L.,  popularmente conhecido como mastruz, tem sido utilizado no Maranhão para o tratamento tópico de úlceras leishmanióticas. O trabalho avaliou a eficácia das frações do extrato hidroalcoólico das folhas de C. ambrosioides contra formas promastigotas da espécie Leishmania amazonensis. O fracionamento foi realizado pela partição sequencial do extrato hidroalcoólico de folhas de C. ambrosioides com solventes de polaridade crescente (hexano, clorofórmio e acetato de etila). As formas promastigotas foram cultivadas em meio RPMI 1640 com e sem as frações. Após 24h de incubação a 26ºC, o número de promastigotas viáveis foi contado pelo método direto em câmara de Neubauer. As concentrações que inibem o crescimento de 50% (CI50 ) das promastigotas de L. amazonensis foram calculadas a partir da avaliação da mortalidade das promastigotas in vitro. De acordo com escores padrões nas frações de acetato de etila e hidroalcoólica remanescente não foi observada atividade leishmanicida significativa, mas as frações hexânica e clorofórmica apresentaram-se ativas. Os resultados obtidos demonstram uma ação leishmanicida promissora das frações. Estudos futuros são necessários para investigar a eficácia destas frações no tratamento da leishmaniose em modelos experimentais in vivo.Descritores: Chenopodium ambrosioides L.; Mastruz; Leishmaniose; in vitro. Abstract:  In vitro leishmanicidal activity of fractions obtained from hydroalcoholic extracts of  Chenopodium ambrosioides’  leaves. Leishmaniasis is an infectious disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania and represents serious public health problem in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Chenopodium ambrosioides, popularly known as “mastruz”, has been used in Maranhão for the topical treatment of leishmanial ulcers. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the fractions from hydroalcoholic extract of C. ambrosioides’  leaves against the promastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis. Fractionation as accomplished by partition sequential extract of leaves of C. ambrosioides with solvents of increasing polarity (hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate). The promastigotes forms were cultured in supplemented RPMI 1640 with or without fractions. After 24h incubation at 26°C, the number of viable promastigotes was counted by the direct method in a Neubauer chamber. The concentrations that inhibit growth of 50% (IC50 ) of L. amazonensis’ promastigotes were calculated from the assessment of the mortality of promastigotes in vitro. According to standard scores, in the ethyl acetate and hydroalcoholic remaining fractions there was no leishmanicidal activity, while the hexane and chloroform fractions were actives. The results showed a promissor leishmanicidal activity of fraction. Future studies are necessary to investigate the effectiveness of these fractions in the treatment of these fractions in experimental models in vivo.Descriptors: Chenopodium ambrosioides L.; Mastruz; Leishmaniasis; in vitro

    Cytochemical techniques and energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy applied to the study of parasitic protozoa

    The study of parasitic protozoa plays a major role in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Numerous cytochemical techniques have been developed in order to unequivocally identify the nature of subcellular compartments. Enzyme and immuno-cytochemistry allow the detection of, respectively, enzymatic activity products and antigens in particular sites within the cell. Energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy permits the detection of specific elements within such compartments. These approaches are particularly useful for studies employing antimicrobial agents where cellular compartments may be destroyed or remarkably altered and thus hardly identified by standard methods of observation. In this regard cytochemical and spectroscopic techniques provide valuable data allowing the determination of the mechanisms of action of such compounds
