An intrinsic state for an extended version of the interacting boson model
An intrinsic-state formalism for IBM-4 is presented. A basis of deformed
bosons is introduced which allows the construction of a general trial wave
function which has Wigner's spin-isospin SU(4) symmetry as a particular limit.
Intrinsic-state calculations are compared with exact ones showing good
agreement.Comment: 12 pages, TeX (ReVTeX). Content changed. Accepted in Phys. Rev.
BEC-BCS crossover in a cold and magnetized two color NJL model
The BEC-BCS crossover for a NJL model with diquark interactions is studied in
the presence of an external magnetic field. Particular attention is paid to
different regularization schemes used in the literature. A thorough comparison
of results is performed for the case of a cold and magnetized two-color NJL
model. According to our results, the critical chemical potential for the BEC
transition exhibits a clear inverse magnetic catalysis effect for magnetic
fields in the range . As for the BEC-BCS
crossover, the corresponding critical chemical potential is very weakly
sensitive to magnetic fields up to , showing a much smaller
inverse magnetic catalysis as compared to the BEC transition, and displays a
strong magnetic catalysis from this point on.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures; v2 PRD versio
Value-at-Risk and Tsallis statistics: risk analysis of the aerospace sector
In this study, we analyze the aerospace stocks prices in order to
characterize the sector behavior. The data analyzed cover the period from
January 1987 to April 1999. We present a new index for the aerospace sector and
we investigate the statistical characteristics of this index. Our results show
that this index is well described by Tsallis distribution. We explore this
result and modify the standard Value-at-Risk (VaR), financial risk assessment
methodology in order to reflect an asset which obeys Tsallis non-extensive
statistics.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 1 table, to appear in Physica
Shear-melting of a hexagonal columnar crystal by proliferation of dislocations
A hexagonal columnar crystal undergoes a shear-melting transition above a
critical shear rate or stress. We combine the analysis of the shear-thinning
regime below the melting with that of synchrotron X-ray scattering data under
shear and propose the melting to be due to a proliferation of dislocations,
whose density is determined by both techniques to vary as a power law of the
shear rate with a 2/3 exponent, as expected for a creep model of crystalline
solids. Moreover, our data suggest the existence under shear of a line hexatic
phase, between the columnar crystal and the liquid phase
Analytic Bethe Ansatz for 1-D Hubbard model and twisted coupled XY model
We found the eigenvalues of the transfer matrices for the 1-D Hubbard model
and for the coupled XY model with twisted boundary condition by using the
analytic Bethe Ansatz method. Under a particular condition the two models have
the same Bethe Ansatz equations. We have also proved that the periodic 1-D
Hubbard model is exactly equal to the coupled XY model with nontrivial twisted
boundary condition at the level of hamiltonians and transfer matrices.Comment: 22 pages, latex, no figure
Medium-modified evolution of multiparticle production in jets in heavy-ion collisions
The energy evolution of medium-modified average multiplicities and
multiplicity fluctuations in quark and gluon jets produced in heavy-ion
collisions is investigated from a toy QCD-inspired model. In this model, we use
modified splitting functions accounting for medium-enhanced radiation of gluons
by a fast parton which propagates through the quark gluon plasma. The leading
contribution of the standard production of soft hadrons is found to be enhanced
by the factor while next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections are
suppressed by , where the nuclear parameter accounts for
the induced-soft gluons in the hot medium. The role of next-to-next-to-leading
order corrections (NNLO) is studied and the large amount of medium-induced soft
gluons is found to drastically affect the convergence of the perturbative
series. Our results for such global observables are cross-checked and compared
with their limits in the vacuum and a new method for solving the second
multiplicity correlator evolution equations is proposed.Comment: 21 pages and 8 figures, typo corrections, references adde
Linfoma de Hodgkin em Doença de Crohn Medicada com Infliximab
INTRODUCTION:
Lymphoproliferative disorders, particularly non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphomas, are rare in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. The use of thiopurines and infection by Epstein-Barr virus are well-known cofactors that can raise its prevalence. Other risk factors such as disease activity and biological treatment are the subject of discussion, without enough data in the literature to confirm a potential association.
METHODS:
We report a case of Hodgkin's lymphoma in a patient who had been treated with azathioprine and was on long-term monotherapy with infliximab.
CONCLUSIONS:
We stress the importance of recognizing the possible occurrence of a lymphoproliferative disorder in association with anti-tumor necrosis factor-α therapy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Glassy phases and driven response of the phase-field-crystal model with random pinning
We study the structural correlations and the nonlinear response to a driving
force of a two-dimensional phase-field-crystal model with random pinning. The
model provides an effective continuous description of lattice systems in the
presence of disordered external pinning centers, allowing for both elastic and
plastic deformations. We find that the phase-field crystal with disorder
assumes an amorphous glassy ground state, with only short-ranged positional and
orientational correlations even in the limit of weak disorder. Under increasing
driving force, the pinned amorphous-glass phase evolves into a moving
plastic-flow phase and then finally a moving smectic phase. The transverse
response of the moving smectic phase shows a vanishing transverse critical
force for increasing system sizes
Nonequilibrium Precursor Model for the Onset of Percolation in a Two-Phase System
Using a Boltzmann equation, we investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of
nonperturbative fluctuations within the context of Ginzburg-Landau models. As
an illustration, we examine how a two-phase system initially prepared in a
homogeneous, low-temperature phase becomes populated by precursors of the
opposite phase as the temperature is increased. We compute the critical value
of the order parameter for the onset of percolation, which signals the
breakdown of the conventional dilute gas approximation.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figures (uses epsf), Revtex. Replaced with version in
