Theory of Stellar Oscillations
In recent years, astronomers have witnessed major progresses in the field of
stellar physics. This was made possible thanks to the combination of a solid
theoretical understanding of the phenomena of stellar pulsations and the
availability of a tremendous amount of exquisite space-based asteroseismic
data. In this context, this chapter reviews the basic theory of stellar
pulsations, considering small, adiabatic perturbations to a static, spherically
symmetric equilibrium. It starts with a brief discussion of the solar
oscillation spectrum, followed by the setting of the theoretical problem,
including the presentation of the equations of hydrodynamics, their
perturbation, and a discussion of the functional form of the solutions.
Emphasis is put on the physical properties of the different types of modes, in
particular acoustic (p-) and gravity (g-) modes and their propagation cavities.
The surface (f-) mode solutions are also discussed. While not attempting to be
comprehensive, it is hoped that the summary presented in this chapter addresses
the most important theoretical aspects that are required for a solid start in

Impact of Caffeine Consumption on Type 2 Diabetes-Induced Spatial Memory Impairment and Neurochemical Alterations in the Hippocampus.
Diabetes affects the morphology and plasticity of the hippocampus, and leads to learning and memory deficits. Caffeine has been proposed to prevent memory impairment upon multiple chronic disorders with neurological involvement. We tested whether long-term caffeine consumption prevents type 2 diabetes (T2D)-induced spatial memory impairment and hippocampal alterations, including synaptic degeneration, astrogliosis, and metabolic modifications. Control Wistar rats and Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats that develop T2D were treated with caffeine (1 g/L in drinking water) for 4 months. Spatial memory was evaluated in a Y-maze. Hippocampal metabolic profile and glucose homeostasis were investigated by <sup>1</sup> H magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The density of neuronal, synaptic, and glial-specific markers was evaluated by Western blot analysis. GK rats displayed reduced Y-maze spontaneous alternation and a lower amplitude of hippocampal long-term potentiation when compared to controls, suggesting impaired hippocampal-dependent spatial memory. Diabetes did not impact the relation of hippocampal to plasma glucose concentrations, but altered the neurochemical profile of the hippocampus, such as increased in levels of the osmolites taurine (P < 0.001) and myo-inositol (P < 0.05). The diabetic hippocampus showed decreased density of the presynaptic proteins synaptophysin (P < 0.05) and SNAP25 (P < 0.05), suggesting synaptic degeneration, and increased GFAP (P < 0.001) and vimentin (P < 0.05) immunoreactivities that are indicative of astrogliosis. The effects of caffeine intake on hippocampal metabolism added to those of T2D, namely reducing myo-inositol levels (P < 0.001) and further increasing taurine levels (P < 0.05). Caffeine prevented T2D-induced alterations of GFAP, vimentin and SNAP25, and improved memory deficits. We conclude that caffeine consumption has beneficial effects counteracting alterations in the hippocampus of GK rats, leading to the improvement of T2D-associated memory impairment
Effect of rapid thermal processing conditions on the properties of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films and solar cell performance
In the present work, we have studied the effect of several sulphurization conditions on the properties of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films obtained through rapid thermal processing (RTP) of multi-period precursors with 8 periods of Zn/SnS2/CuS. In this study we varied the heating rate, the maximum sulphurization temperature, the time at maximum temperature and the amount of evaporated sulphur. The samples were characterized through scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Raman scattering spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence and I–V measurements. We have observed that at heating rates above 0.5 1C/s the samples delaminated severely. As a result further tests were carried out at 0.2 1C/s heating rate. The morphological studies revealed that the samples sulphurized at higher temperatures, shorter times and higher amount of evaporated sulphur exhibited larger grain sizes. The structural analysis based on Raman scattering and XRD did not lead to a clear distinction between the samples. Photoluminescence spectroscopy studies showed an asymmetric broad band characteristic of CZTS, which occurs in the range of 1.0–1.4 eV and a second band, on the high energy side of the previous one, peaking at around 1.41 eV. The intensity of this latter band varies from sample to sample revealing substantial differences in their optical properties. This band appears to originate either from the surface of the absorber or from the CdS layer and has a clear correlation with cell efficiency. The higher the intensity of this band the lower the cell efficiency, presumably due to the increase in recombination resulting from CZTS surface decomposition and eventually from the CdS with modified optoelectronic properties. The cell results hint toward a detrimental effect of long sulphuriza-tion times and a positive effect of higher sulphur vapour pressure and higher sulphurization temperature. Quantum tomography for Dirac spinors
We present a tomographic scheme, based on spacetime symmetries, for the
reconstruction of the internal degrees of freedom of a Dirac spinor. We discuss
the circumstances under which the tomographic group can be taken as SU(2), and
how this crucially depends on the choice of the gamma matrix representation. A
tomographic reconstruction process based on discrete rotations is considered,

International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology. CXII: adenosine receptors: a further update
Our previous International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology report on the nomenclature and classification of adenosine receptors (2011) contained a number of emerging developments with respect to this G protein-coupled receptor subfamily, including protein structure, protein oligomerization, protein diversity, and allosteric modulation by small molecules. Since then, a wealth of new data and results has been added, allowing us to explore novel concepts such as target binding kinetics and biased signaling of adenosine receptors, to examine a multitude of receptor structures and novel ligands, to gauge new pharmacology, and to evaluate clinical trials with adenosine receptor ligands. This review should therefore be considered a further update of our previous reports from 2001 and 2011.Significance Statement-Adenosine receptors (ARs) are of continuing interest for future treatment of chronic and acute disease conditions, including inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative afflictions, and cancer. The design of AR agonists ("biased" or not) and antagonists is largely structure based now, thanks to the tremendous progress in AR structural biology. The A2A and A2BAR appear to modulate the immune response in tumor biology. Bayesian Analysis and Constraints on Kinematic Models from Union SNIa
The kinematic expansion history of the universe is investigated by using the
307 supernovae type Ia from the Union Compilation set. Three simple model
parameterizations for the deceleration parameter (constant, linear and abrupt
transition) and two different models that are explicitly parametrized by the
cosmic jerk parameter (constant and variable) are considered. Likelihood and
Bayesian analyses are employed to find best fit parameters and compare models
among themselves and with the flat CDM model. Analytical expressions
and estimates for the deceleration and cosmic jerk parameters today ( and
) and for the transition redshift () between a past phase of cosmic
deceleration to a current phase of acceleration are given. All models
characterize an accelerated expansion for the universe today and largely
indicate that it was decelerating in the past, having a transition redshift
around 0.5. The cosmic jerk is not strongly constrained by the present
supernovae data. For the most realistic kinematic models the
confidence limits imply the following ranges of values: ,
and , which are compatible with the
CDM predictions, , and .
We find that even very simple kinematic models are equally good to describe the
data compared to the concordance CDM model, and that the current

Overexpression of adenosine A2A receptors in rats: effects on depression, locomotion, and anxiety
Adenosine A2A receptors (A2AR) are a sub-type of receptors enriched in basal ganglia, activated by the neuromodulator adenosine, which interact with dopamine D2 receptors. Although this reciprocal antagonistic interaction is well-established in motor function, the outcome in dopamine-related behaviors remains uncertain, in particular in depression and anxiety. We have demonstrated an upsurge of A2AR associated to aging and chronic stress. Furthermore, Alzheimer's disease patients present A2AR accumulation in cortical areas together with depressive signs. We now tested the impact of overexpressing A2AR in forebrain neurons on dopamine-related behavior, namely depression. Adult male rats overexpressing human A2AR under the control of CaMKII promoter [Tg(CaMKII-hA2AR)] and aged-matched wild-types (WT) of the same strain (Sprague-Dawley) were studied. The forced swimming test (FST), sucrose preference test (SPT), and the open-field test (OFT) were performed to evaluate behavioral despair, anhedonia, locomotion, and anxiety. Tg(CaMKII-hA2AR) animals spent more time floating and less time swimming in the FST and presented a decreased sucrose preference at 48 h in the SPT. They also covered higher distances in the OFT and spent more time in the central zone than the WT. The results indicate that Tg(CaMKII-hA2AR) rats exhibit depressive-like behavior, hyperlocomotion, and altered exploratory behavior. This A2AR overexpression may explain the depressive signs found in aging, chronic stress, and Alzheimer's disease
Transfer learning for galaxy morphology from one survey to another

Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society.Deep Learning (DL) algorithms for morphological classification of galaxies have proven very successful, mimicking (or even improving) visual classifications. However, these algorithms rely on large training samples of labelled galaxies (typically thousands of them). A key question for using DL classifications in future Big Data surveys is how much of the knowledge acquired from an existing survey can be exported to a new dataset, i.e. if the features learned by the machines are meaningful for different data. We test the performance of DL models, trained with Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data, on Dark Energy survey (DES) using images for a sample of 5000 galaxies with a similar redshift distribution to SDSS. Applying the models directly to DES data provides a reasonable global accuracy ( 90%), but small completeness and purity values. A fast domain adaptation step, consisting in a further training with a small DES sample of galaxies (500-300), is enough for obtaining an accuracy > 95% and a significant improvement in the completeness and purity values. This demonstrates that, once trained with a particular dataset, machines can quickly adapt to new instrument characteristics (e.g., PSF, seeing, depth), reducing by almost one order of magnitude the necessary training sample for morphological classification. Integrated Health Service Delivery Networks And Tuberculosis Avoidable Hospitalizations: Is There A Relation Between Them In Brazil?
The early identification of the Breathing Symptoms within the scope of Primary Health Care is recommended, and is also one of the strategies of national sanitary authorities for reaching the elimination of tuberculosis. The purpose of this study is to consider which attributes and which territories have shown the most significant progress in Primary Health Care, in terms of coordination of Health Care Networks, and also check if those areas of Primary Health Care that are most critical regarding coordination, there were more or less cases of avoidable hospitalizations for tuberculosis. Methods: This is an ecological study that uses primary and secondary data. For analysis, coropletic maps were developed through the ArcGIS software, version 10.2. There was also the calculation of gross annual and Bayesian rates for hospitalizations for tuberculosis, for each Primary Health Care territory. Results: There were satisfactory results for attributes such as Population (n = 37; 80.4 %), Primary Health Care (n = 43; 93.5 %), Support System (n = 45; 97.8 %); the exceptions were Logistics System (n = 32; 76.0 %) and Governance System, with fewer units in good condition (n = 31; 67.3 %). There is no evidence of any connection between networks' coordination by Primary Health Care and tuberculosis avoidable admissions. Conclusion: The results show that progress has been made regarding the coordination of the Health Care Networks, and a positive trend has been shown, even though the levels are not excellent. It was found no relationship between the critical areas of Primary Health Care and tuberculosis avoidable hospitalizations, possibly because other variables necessary to comprehend the phenomena. © 2016 Popolin et al.16
New constraints on H_0 and Omega_M from SZE/X-RAY data and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations
The Hubble constant, , sets the scale of the size and age of the
Universe and its determination from independent methods is still worthwhile to
be investigated. In this article, by using the Sunyaev-Zel`dovich effect and
X-ray surface brightness data from 38 galaxy clusters observed by Bonamente
{\it{et al.}} (2006), we obtain a new estimate of in the context of a
flat CDM model. There is a degeneracy on the mass density parameter
() which is broken by applying a joint analysis involving the
baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) as given by Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).
This happens because the BAO signature does not depend on . Our basic
finding is that a joint analysis involving these tests yield km s Mpc and
. Since the hypothesis of spherical geometry
