Design Requirements for AI-based Services Enriching Legacy Information Systems in Enterprises: A Managerial Perspective
Information systems (IS) have been introduced in enterprises for decades to generate business value. Historically systems that are deeply integrated into business processes and not replaced remain vital assets, and thus become legacy IS (LISs). To secure the future success, enterprises invest in innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence-based services (AIBSs), enriching LISs and assisting employees in the execution of work-related tasks. This study develops design requirements from a managerial perspective by following a mixed-method approach. First, we conducted ten interviews to formulate requirements to design AIBSs. Second, we evaluated their business value using an online survey (N = 101). The results indicate that executives consider design requirements as relevant that create strategic advancements in the short term. With the help of our findings, researchers can better understand where further in-depth studies are needed to refine the requirements. Practitioners can learn how AIBSs generate business value when enriching LISs
Towards Successful Collaboration: Design Guidelines for AI-based Services enriching Information Systems in Organisations
Information systems (IS) are widely used in organisations to improve business performance. The steady progression in improving technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the need of securing future success of organisations lead to new requirements for IS. This research in progress firstly introduces the term AI-based services (AIBS) describing AI as a component enriching IS aiming at collaborating with employees and assisting in the execution of work-related tasks. The study derives requirements from ten expert interviews to successful design AIBS following Design Science Research (DSR). For a successful deployment of AIBS in organisations the D&M IS Success Model will be considered to validated requirements within three major dimensions of quality: Information Quality, System Quality, and Service Quality. Amongst others, preliminary findings propose that AIBS must be preferably authentic. Further discussion and research on AIBS is forced, thus, providing first insights on the deployment of AIBS in organisations
Effects of Feeding Bt Maize to Sows during Gestation and Lactation on Maternal and Offspring Immunity and Fate of Transgenic Material

We aimed to determine the effect of feeding transgenic maize to sows during gestation and lactation on maternal and offspring immunity and to assess the fate of transgenic material.
Methodology/Principal Findings:
On the day of insemination, sows were assigned to one of two treatments (n = 12/treatment); 1) non-Bt control maize diet or 2) Bt-MON810 maize diet, which were fed for ~143 days throughout gestation and lactation. Immune function was assessed by leukocyte phenotyping, haematology and Cry1Ab-specific antibody presence in blood on days 0, 28 and 110 of gestation and at the end of lactation. Peripheral-blood mononuclear cell cytokine production was investigated on days 28 and 110 of gestation. Haematological analysis was performed on offspring at birth (n = 12/treatment). Presence of the cry1Ab transgene was assessed in sows' blood and faeces on day 110 of gestation and in blood and tissues of offspring at birth. Cry1Ab protein presence was assessed in sows' blood during gestation and lactation and in tissues of offspring at birth. Blood monocyte count and percentage were higher (P<0.05), while granulocyte percentage was lower (P<0.05) in Bt maize-fed sows on day 110 of gestation. Leukocyte count and granulocyte count and percentage were lower (P<0.05), while lymphocyte percentage was higher (P<0.05) in offspring of Bt maize-fed sows. Bt maize-fed sows had a lower percentage of monocytes on day 28 of lactation and of CD4+CD8+ lymphocytes on day 110 of gestation, day 28 of lactation and overall (P<0.05). Cytokine production was similar between treatments. Transgenic material or Cry1Ab-specific antibodies were not detected in sows or offspring.
Conclusions/Significance:
Treatment differences observed following feeding of Bt maize to sows did not indicate inflammation or allergy and are unlikely to be of major importance. Understanding Collaboration with Virtual Assistants—The Role of Social Identity and the Extended Self
Organizations introduce virtual assistants (VAs) to support employees with work-related tasks. VAs can increase the success of teamwork and thus become an integral part of the daily work life. However, the effect of VAs on virtual teams remains unclear. While social identity theory describes the identification of employees with team members and the continued existence of a group identity, the concept of the extended self refers to the incorporation of possessions into one’s sense of self. This raises the question of which approach applies to VAs as teammates. The article extends the IS literature by examining the impact of VAs on individuals and teams and updates the knowledge on social identity and the extended self by deploying VAs in a collaborative setting. Using a laboratory experiment with N = 50, two groups were compared in solving a task, where one group was assisted by a VA, while the other was supported by a person. Results highlight that employees who identify VAs as part of their extended self are more likely to identify with team members and vice versa. The two aspects are thus combined into the proposed construct of virtually extended identification explaining the relationships of collaboration with VAs. This study contributes to the understanding on the influence of the extended self and social identity on collaboration with VAs. Practitioners are able to assess how VAs improve collaboration and teamwork in mixed teams in organizations
Effects of feeding Bt MON810 maize to sows during first gestation and lactation on maternal and offspring health indicators
A total of twenty-four sows and their offspring were used in a 20-week study to investigate the effects of feeding GM maize on maternal and offspring health. Sows were fed diets containing GM or non-GM maize from service to the end of lactation. GM maize-fed sows were heavier on day 56 of gestation (P< 0·05). Offspring from sows fed GM maize tended to be lighter at weaning (P= 0·08). Sows fed GM maize tended to have decreased serum total protein (P= 0·08), and increased serum creatinine (P< 0·05) and γ-glutamyltransferase activity (P= 0·07) on day 28 of lactation. Serum urea tended to be decreased on day 110 of gestation in GM maize-fed sows (P= 0·10) and in offspring at birth (P= 0·08). Both platelet count (P= 0·07) and mean cell Hb concentration (MCHC; P= 0·05) were decreased on day 110 of gestation in GM maize-fed sows; however, MCHC tended to be increased in offspring at birth (P= 0·08). There was a minimal effect of feeding GM maize to sows during gestation and lactation on maternal and offspring serum biochemistry and haematology at birth and body weight at weaning
Beyond MFV in family symmetry theories of fermion masses
Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV) postulates that the only source of flavour
changing neutral currents and CP violation, as in the Standard Model, is the
CKM matrix. However it does not address the origin of fermion masses and mixing
and models that do usually have a structure that goes well beyond the MFV
framework. In this paper we compare the MFV predictions with those obtained in
models based on spontaneously broken (horizontal) family symmetries, both
Abelian and non-Abelian. The generic suppression of flavour changing processes
in these models turns out to be weaker than in the MFV hypothesis. Despite
this, in the supersymmetric case, the suppression may still be consistent with
a solution to the hierarchy problem, with masses of superpartners below 1 TeV.

different family quantum numbers should be able to distinguish between various

Concordance between self-reported and measured HIV and hepatitis C virus infection status among people who inject drugs in Germany
Background: People who inject drugs (PWID) are disproportionately affected by both HIV and hepatitis C infection (HCV). Awareness of infection status is essential to ensure linkage to appropriate healthcare for those infected, who need treatment and regular follow-up, as well as for uninfected individuals, who need access to targeted testing and counselling services. In this paper we compare self-reported HIV and HCV status with serological markers of infection among PWID recruited through respondent driven sampling. Methods: From 2011 through 2014, biological and behavioural data was collected from 2,077 PWID in Germany. Dried blood spots from capillary blood samples were collected and screened for HCV antibodies, HCV RNA and HIV-1/-2 antibodies. HIV reactive samples were confirmed by Western blot. Results: Laboratory testing revealed that 5 % were infected with HIV and 81 % were aware of being infected. Chronic HCV infection was detected in 41 % of the participants, 2 % had an acute HCV infection, 22 % had a cleared infection, and 34 % were unexposed to HCV. The concordance between self-reported and measured HCV status was lower than for HIV, with 73 % of those with chronic HCV infection being aware of their infection. Conclusions: We found a relatively high awareness of HIV and HCV infection status among PWID. Nevertheless, access to appropriate testing, counselling and care services targeted to the needs of PWID should be further improved, particularly concerning HCV. Trial registration: Ethical approval was received from the ethics committee at the medical university of Charité, Berlin, Germany in May 2011 and with an amendment approved retrospectively on 19/11/2012 (No EA4/036/11). The Messenger Sector of SUSY Flavour Models and Radiative Breaking of Flavour Universality
The flavour messenger sectors and their impact on the soft SUSY breaking
terms are investigated in SUSY flavour models. In the case when the flavour
scale M is below the SUSY breaking mediation scale M_S, the universality of
soft terms, even if assumed at M_S, is radiatively broken. We estimate this
effect in a broad class of models. In the CKM basis that effect gives flavour
off-diagonal soft masses comparable to the tree-level estimate based on the
