On Normal Subgroups of Coxeter Groups Generated by Standard Parabolic Subgroups

We discuss one construction of nonstandard subgroups in the category of Coxeter groups. Two formulae for the growth series of such a subgroups are given. As an application we construct a flag simple convex polytope, whose f-polynomial has non-real roots.Comment: 12 pages, figure

Explicit solution of an inverse first-passage time problem for L\'{e}vy processes and counterparty credit risk

For a given Markov process XX and survival function H\overline{H} on R+\mathbb{R}^+, the inverse first-passage time problem (IFPT) is to find a barrier function b:R+[,+]b:\mathbb{R}^+\to[-\infty,+\infty] such that the survival function of the first-passage time τb=inf{t0:X(t)<b(t)}\tau_b=\inf \{t\ge0:X(t)<b(t)\} is given by H\overline{H}. In this paper, we consider a version of the IFPT problem where the barrier is fixed at zero and the problem is to find an initial distribution μ\mu and a time-change II such that for the time-changed process XIX\circ I the IFPT problem is solved by a constant barrier at the level zero. For any L\'{e}vy process XX satisfying an exponential moment condition, we derive the solution of this problem in terms of λ\lambda-invariant distributions of the process XX killed at the epoch of first entrance into the negative half-axis. We provide an explicit characterization of such distributions, which is a result of independent interest. For a given multi-variate survival function H\overline{H} of generalized frailty type, we construct subsequently an explicit solution to the corresponding IFPT with the barrier level fixed at zero. We apply these results to the valuation of financial contracts that are subject to counterparty credit risk.Comment: Published at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/14-AAP1051 in the Annals of Applied Probability (http://www.imstat.org/aap/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org

Computer aided processing using laser measurements

    Get PDF
The challenge exists of processing the STS and its cargo through KSC facilities in the most timely and cost effective manner possible. To do this a 3-D computer graphics data base was established into which was entered the STS, payloads, and KSC facilities. The facility drawing data are enhanced by laser theodolite measurements into an as-built configuration. Elements of the data base were combined to study orbiter/facility interfaces payload/facility access problems and design/arrangement of various GSE to support processing requirements. With timely analysis/design utilizing the 3-D computer graphics system, costly delays can be avoided. Better methodology can be analyzed to determine procedures for cost avoidance

Cosmic Strings, Zero Modes and SUSY breaking in Nonabelian N=1 Gauge Theories

    Get PDF
We investigate the microphysics of cosmic strings in Nonabelian gauge theories with N=1 supersymmetry. We give the vortex solutions in a specific example and demonstrate that fermionic superconductivity arises because of the couplings and interactions dictated by supersymmetry. We then use supersymmetry transformations to obtain the relevant fermionic zero modes and investigate the role of soft supersymmetry breaking on the existence and properties of the superconducting strings.Comment: 12 pages, RevTex, submitted to Phys. A recurrence matrix method for the analysis of longitudinal and torsional vibrations in non-uniform multibranch beams with variable boundary conditions

    Get PDF
An approximate method for calculating the longitudinal and torsional natural frequencies and associated modal data of a beamlike, variable cross section multibranch structure is presented. The procedure described is the numerical integration of the first order differential equations that characterize the beam element in longitudinal motion and that satisfy the appropriate boundary conditions

Input description for Jameson's three-dimensional transonic airfoil analysis program

    Get PDF
The input parameters are presented for a computer program which performs calculations for inviscid isentropic transonic flow over three dimensional airfoils with straight leading edges. The free stream Mach number is restricted only by the isentropic assumption. Weak shock waves are automatically located where they occur in the flow. The finite difference form of the full equation for the velocity potential is solved by the method of relaxation, after the flow exterior to the airfoil is mapped to the upper half plane

Racetrack inflation with matter fields and cosmic strings

    Get PDF
We consider the coupling of racetrack inflation to matter fields as realized in the D3/D7 brane system. In particular, we investigate the possibility of cosmic string formation in this system. We find that strings can form before or at the onset of racetrack inflation is possible, but they are then inflated away. Furthermore, string formation at the end of inflation is prevented by the presence of the moduli sector. As a consequence, no strings survive racetrack inflation
