Axion Like Particles and the Inverse Seesaw Mechanism
Light pseudoscalars known as axion like particles (ALPs) may be behind
physical phenomena like the Universe transparency to ultra-energetic photons,
the soft -ray excess from the Coma cluster, and the 3.5 keV line. We
explore the connection of these particles with the inverse seesaw (ISS)
mechanism for neutrino mass generation. We propose a very restrictive setting
where the scalar field hosting the ALP is also responsible for generating the
ISS mass scales through its vacuum expectation value on gravity induced
nonrenormalizable operators. A discrete gauge symmetry protects the theory from
the appearance of overly strong gravitational effects and discrete anomaly
cancellation imposes strong constraints on the order of the group. The
anomalous U symmetry leading to the ALP is an extended lepton number and
the protective discrete symmetry can be always chosen as a subgroup of a
combination of the lepton number and the baryon number.Comment: 29pp. v4: published version with erratum. Conclusions unchange
High-pressure synthesis of rock salt LiMeO2-ZnO (Me = Fe3+, Ti3+) solid solutions
Metastable LiMeO2-ZnO (Me = Fe3+, Ti3+) solid solutions with rock salt
crystal structure have been synthesized by solid state reaction of ZnO with
LiMeO2 complex oxides at 7.7 GPa and 1350-1450 K. Structure, phase composition,
thermal stability and thermal expansion of the recovered samples have been
studied by X-ray diffraction with synchrotron radiation. At ambient pressure
rock salt LiMeO2-ZnO solid solutions are kinetically stable up to 670-800 K
depending on the composition.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl
High temperature behavior of Sr-doped layered cobaltites Y(Ba1-xSrx)Co2O5.5: phase stability and structural properties
In this article we present a neutron diffraction in-situ study of the thermal
evolution and high-temperature structure of layered cobaltites Y(Ba, Sr)Co2
O5+{\delta}. Neutron thermodiffractograms and magnetic susceptibility
measurements are reported in the temperature range 20 K <= T <= 570 K, as well
as high resolution neutron diffraction experiments at selected temperatures.
Starting from the as-synthesized samples with {\delta} ~ 0.5, we show that the
room temperature phases remain stable up to 550 K, where they start loosing
oxygen and transform to a vacancy-disordered "112" structure with tetragonal
symmetry. Our results also show how the so-called "122" structure can be
stabilized at high temperature (around 450 K) in a sample in which the addition
of Sr at the Ba site had suppressed its formation. In addition, we present the
structural and magnetic properties of the resulting samples with a new oxygen
content {\delta} ~ 0.25 in the temperature range 20 K <= T <= 300 K
Nutrition is Perceived as an Ecosystem Service of the Mangrove by Rural People in Ecuador
The mangrove ecosystem is considered as the source of livelihood, particularly for coastal areas. This study explores the perception of the inhabitants of Puerto El Morro and the island of Costa Rica (Ecuador) against the ecosystem services of the mangrove. Seven quantitative variables were used on the Likert scale by performing exploratory factor analysis. The results were based on a sample of 94 participants finding 2 factors, tourism (29.07% of variance) and nutritious food production (25.45% of variance remaining). The reliability of the questionnaire was acceptable according to Cronbach’s Alpha 0.654. A confirmatory factor analysis is necessary to revalidate the items of the factors.
Keywords: coastal communities, eating, mangroves, livelihoods, nutrition.

Individually-rational collective choice
There is a collection of exogenously given socially-feasible sets, and, for each one of them, each individual in a group chooses from an individually-feasible set. The fact that the product of the individually-feasible sets is larger than the socially-feasible set notwithstanding, there arises no conflict between individual choices. Assuming that individual preferences are random, I characterize rationalizable collective choices
Authentic Recipes from Around the World
This is the author accepted manuscript. This book reflects about the term "authenticity" in the context of foods and drinks. It asks how history, time and temporality can be used to make particular cultural products seem "authentic" or the "real" thing. We explore authenticity in relation to foods and drinks from different parts of the world: pulque (alcoholic drink from central Mexico), flaounes (celebration Easter pies from Cyprus), Welsh craft cider, and acarajé (street snack from Brazil). Temporal categories like "origins," "traditions" and "timelessness" and the emotional connections they can evoke, like feelings of nostalgia and belonging, are at the heart of our approach. The book is part of a larger research project, Consuming Authenticities: Time, Place and the Past in the Construction of Authentic Foods and Drinks, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in relation to their major research theme, Care for the Future: Thinking Forward Through the Past.Arts & Humanities Research Counci
The Cross-Cultural Invariance of the Servant Leadership Survey: A Comparative Study across Eight Countries
This paper tests and confirms the cross-cultural equivalence of the Servant Leadership Survey (SLS) in eight countries and languages: The Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Finland. A composite sample consisting of 5201 respondents from eight countries that all filled out the SLS was used. A three-step approach was adopted to test configural invariance, measurement equivalence, and structural equivalence. For the full 30-item version of the SLS, configural invariance and partial measurement equivalence were confirmed. Implications of these results for the use of the SLS within cross-cultural studies are discussed
