To achieve this purpose, 30 Volleyball players were selected randomly as subjects for this present study. The subjects selected (N=30), were assigned randomly into two groups namely experimental group-1and control group, consisting of 15 each. Thus they were named experimental group-1 as Visual Skills Fitness Training Group (VSFTG), and Control Group (CG). Their age was fixed in the range of 19 – 24 years. VSFTG underwent visual skill fitness training programme for two days a week for about twelve weeks. Subjects in the control group were not engaged in any activity. Before and after the training period data will be taken to all the subjects. The collected data were processed with Paired t-test was used. The obtained result was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study show that experimental group shows better improvement on selected psychomotor variables when compared to control group

Thrips-tospovirus interactions: biological and molecular implications

    Get PDF
The occurrence of thrips vectors in considerable numbers enables their functioning in a dual role as vectors and as direct crop pests. The resistance of thrips to pesticides has enabled quick transmission of viruses, the transient nature of their populations being essentially responsible for the infection. The feeding behaviour of thrips contributes in a large measure towards their ability to act as vectors, enabling leaf-to-leaf transmission of the tospoviruses. The specific association of the tospoviruses and thrips vectors, particularly relating to the molecular profiles, needs increasing scrutiny to come to proper conclusions. A better understanding of the nature of virus multiplication and the pathways leading to their entry into the salivary glands and the ability of the second instar larvae to inoculate plants need further inputs. The intraspecific diversity of thrips vectors as a result of population studies from various parts of the country, would further enable a better understanding of the ability of each species to transfer the virus, besides better appreciation of the chemical ecology of thrips-host-plant interaction, not to mention the relevance of serodiagnosis in detecting disease or health

Dynamic manufacturing-inventory system’s intelligent production design develops a crucial problem in the business reactivity of indecisions.  This investigation examines a two-level production system under fuzzy parameters and decision variables by implementing a pentagonal fuzzy quantity.  As designed, the fuzzy system is defuzzified through the graded mean technique, and then the Kuhn-Tucker technique is utilised to obtain the optimum production size and shortage level.  The effectual algorithms are established to project an intellectual industrial approach such as optimal production quantity, shortage level, trade group’s exertions, and then minimum integrated expected total cost.  The evaluation of the proposed fuzzy system is primed to fit numerical examples compared to the crisp system.  This suggested fuzzy system is likewise compared with a particular case of the prior model.  Numerical illustrations and sensitiveness studies are delivered in the direction of exhibiting the applicability based on the offered procedure and the attained outcomes.

ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METAL CONCENTRATION PRESENT IN SUBSURFACE WATER DUE TO SOLID WASTE DUMPING

Landfill and open dumping of solid waste are the two major disposal methods adopted in developing countries like India. The entire Municipal Solid Waste management system includes generation, collection and safe disposal carried out by the respective local bodies. In this study, Pallavaram dumpsite, which is situated on the Thoraipakkam radial road was selected due to its proximity and possible threat to the nearby locality, which includes lakes on either side. This study was undertaken to evaluate the physio-chemical properties of leachate and subsurface water samples collected from 10 locations during Pre-Monsoon and Post-Monsoon periods. It includes the analysis of substantial heavy metal concentrations such as lead, arsenic, chromium, zinc and iron using Inductive Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICPMS) and other physio-chemical properties as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The results of subsurface water analysis revealed that the parameters such as TDS, total hardness, sulphates, chloride, chromium and arsenic were 2103 mg/L, 2136 mg/L, 611 mg/L, 6746 mg/L, 0.82 mg/L and 0.035 mg/L respectively. It was found to be maximum during both the monsoons and the values exceed the permissible limit as mentioned in BIS. It also showed significant variations in the pre and post - monsoon periods. This has a diverse impact on the subsurface water quality, which contributes to health issues rendering it unsuitable for consumption and household activities. Hence, appropriate remedial measures must be taken to avoid further contamination

DNA barcoding and preliminary phylogenetic analysis of few gastropods (Family: Potamididae and Nassariidae) in Vellar estuary mangroves, India by COI and 18S rRNA genes

    Get PDF
596-600Class Gastropoda is one of the widely studied invertebrates throughout the globe. But, even now most of the species have been identified only by conventional morphology. DNA barcodes have been greatly useful to delimit the cryptic species. In this study, we have analyzed cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and 18S rRNA gene sequences from 12 specimens belonging to four species to barcode and examine the molecular variation in gastropods of the Vellar estuary mangroves of Tamil Nadu, India. From the results, it is revealed that, among the four genera, Terebralia, Telescopium, and Cerithidea are closely related than genus Nassarius based on the COI and 18S rRNA gene sequences. The neighbour joining trees also confirmed four distinct clades harbouring four genera. As expected, the within species K2P genetic variation is lesser than between species K2P genetic variation in both the genes. An intensive survey is needed to assess the genetic variation of all gastropods in the manmade Vellar estuary mangroves and nearby natural Pichavaram mangroves with additional molecular markers

Experimental study on strength properties of problematic soils with RBI -81 stabiliser

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Rapid industrialization demands for developing engineering facilities even in difficult soils like soft clays and loose silts. Expansive soils which are generally termed as problematic soils cause swelling and shrinkage resulting in significant damage to the structures constructed on them. In this study an attempt is made to improve the strength and to stabilize the problematic soil by the use of chemical additive, RBI grade 81. Detailed experimental investigation including unconfined compression tests, SEM and EDAX analysis were carried out to know the effectiveness of addition of RBI grade 81 to improve the engineering properties, chemical composition and mineralogical properties of two soil samples (A1 and A2). Treated soil specimens at various stabilizer dosages (2, 4 and 6%) were tested for UCS after curing periods of 3 days and 7 days. It was observed that the unconfined compressive strength of the soil sample A1 and A2 increased by 475% and 430% with addition of 6% stabilizer after 7 days curing. The increase in strength can be due to the formation of new cementitious compounds which is evident in the micrographs from SEM and EDAX analysis

Metalloprotease OMA1 Fine-tunes Mitochondrial Bioenergetic Function and Respiratory Supercomplex Stability

    Get PDF
Mitochondria are involved in key cellular functions including energy production, metabolic homeostasis, and apoptosis. Normal mitochondrial function is preserved by several interrelated mechanisms. One mechanism – intramitochondrial quality control (IMQC) – is represented by conserved proteases distributed across mitochondrial compartments. Many aspects and physiological roles of IMQC components remain unclear. Here, we show that the IMQC protease Oma1 is required for the stability of the respiratory supercomplexes and thus balanced and tunable bioenergetic function. Loss of Oma1 activity leads to a specific destabilization of respiratory supercomplexes and consequently to unbalanced respiration and progressive respiratory decline in yeast. Similarly, experiments in cultured Oma1-deficient mouse embryonic fibroblasts link together impeded supercomplex stability and inability to maintain proper respiration under conditions that require maximal bioenergetic output. Finally, transient knockdown of OMA1 in zebrafish leads to impeded bioenergetics and morphological defects of the heart and eyes. Together, our biochemical and genetic studies in yeast, zebrafish and mammalian cells identify a novel and conserved physiological role for Oma1 protease in fine-tuning of respiratory function. We suggest that this unexpected physiological role is important for cellular bioenergetic plasticity and may contribute to Oma1- associated disease phenotypes in humans
