Gravity on a parallelizable manifold. Exact solutions
The wave type field equation \square \vt^a=\la \vt^a, where \vt^a is a
coframe field on a space-time, was recently proposed to describe the gravity
field. This equation has a unique static, spherical-symmetric,
asymptotically-flat solution, which leads to the viable Yilmaz-Rosen metric. We
show that the wave type field equation is satisfied by the pseudo-conformal
frame if the conformal factor is determined by a scalar 3D-harmonic function.
This function can be related to the Newtonian potential of classical gravity.
So we obtain a direct relation between the non-relativistic gravity and the
relativistic model: every classical exact solution leads to a solution of the
field equation. With this result we obtain a wide class of exact, static
metrics. We show that the theory of Yilmaz relates to the pseudo-conformal
sector of our construction. We derive also a unique cosmological (time
dependent) solution of the described type.Comment: Latex, 17 page
Overcoming the Corporate Veil Challenge: Could Investment Law Inspire the Proposed Business and Human Rights Treaty?
This article proposes a model of treaty-based veil piercing for civil liability claims by victims of human rights harm inflicted by businesses. The primary inspiration for this model comes from investment treaty provisions dealing with corporate investors. Our examination of investment law for this purpose exposes the double standard in the treatment of the corporate veil between these two remedy regimes,andoffersawaytoaddressthis.Thetestweproposeforliftingthe veil in order to allow victims to claim against the parent company in a corporate group is one of ‘legal control’. It aims to capture cases where the parent did not necessarily take an active role in the subsidiary’s business, but it is still treated as being in control of it by virtue of its direct or indirect ownership or ability to appoint management
Cosmological test of the Yilmaz theory of gravity
We test the Yilmaz theory of gravitation by working out the corresponding
Friedmann-type equations generated by assuming the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker
cosmological metrics. In the case that space is flat the theory is consistent
only with either a completely empty universe or a negative energy vacuum that
decays to produce a constant density of matter. In both cases the total energy
remains zero at all times, and in the latter case the acceleration of the
expansion is always negative. To obtain a more flexible and potentially more
realistic cosmology, the equation of state relating the pressure and energy
density of the matter creation process must be different from the vacuum, as
for example is the case in the steady-state models of Gold, Bondi, Hoyle and
others. The theory does not support the cosmological principle for curved space

Design education across design disciplines prioritizes project-based courses to support student learning about design processes and strategies (Eastman, Newstetter, & McCracken, 1999; Smith, Sheppard, Johnson, & Johnson, 2005). Success in teaching these courses relies on the ability of instructors to mentor and guide students\u27 design paths, allowing students some freedom to determine design decisions on their own, while facilitating a structure where they can learn successful design strategies
Microarray Analysis of Late Response to Boron Toxicity in Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Leaves
DNA microarrays, being high-density and high-throughput, allow quantitative analyses of thousands of genes and their expression patterns in parallel. In this study, Barley1 GereChip was used to investigate transcriptome changes associated with boron (B) toxicity in a sensitive barley cultivar (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Hamidye). Eight-day-old aseptically grown seedlings were subjected to 5 or 10 mM boric acid (B(OH)(3)) treatments for 5 days and expression profiles were determined with DNA microarrays using total RNA from leaf tissues. Among the 22,840 transcripts - each represented with a probe set on the GeneChip - 19,424 probe sets showed intensity values greater than 20(th) percentile in at least one of the hybridizations. Compared to control (10 mu M B(OH)(3)), 5 mM B(OH)(3) treatment resulted in differential expression of 168 genes at least by twofold. Moreover, 10 mM B(OH)(3) treatment resulted in at least twofold induction or reduction in expression of 312 transcripts. Among these genes, 37 and 61 exhibited significantly (P <0.05) altered levels of expression under 5 and 10 mM B(OH)(3) treatments, respectively. Differentially expressed genes were characterized using expression-based clustering and HarvEST:Barley. Investigations of expression profiles revealed that B toxicity results in global changes in the barley transcriptome and networks of signaling or molecular responses. A noticeable feature of response to 8 was that it is highly interconnected with responses to various environmental stresses. Additionally, induction of jasmonic acid related genes was found to be an important late response to B toxicity. Determination of responsive genes will shed light on successive studies aiming to elucidate molecular mechanism of B toxicity or tolerance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on global expression analysis of barley seedlings under B toxicity
Photometric, Spectroscopic and Orbital Period Study of Three Early Type Semi-detached Systems: XZ Aql, UX Her and AT Peg
In this paper we present a combined photometric, spectroscopic and orbital
period study of three early-type eclipsing binary systems: XZ Aql, UX Her, and
AT Peg. As a result, we have derived the absolute parameters of their
components and, on that basis, we discuss their evolutionary states.
Furthermore, we compare their parameters with those of other binary systems and
with the theoretical models. An analysis of all available up-to-date times of
minima indicated that all three systems studied here show cyclic orbital
changes, their origin is discussed in detail. Finally, we performed a frequency
analysis for possible pulsational behavior and as a result we suggest that XZ
Aql hosts a {\delta} Scuti component.Comment: 40 pages, 16 figure
Astrocytes engage unique molecular programs to engulf pruned neuronal debris from distinct subsets of neurons
Precise neural circuit assembly is achieved by initial overproduction of neurons and synapses, followed by refinement through elimination of exuberant neurons and synapses. Glial cells are the primary cells responsible for clearing neuronal debris, but the cellular and molecular basis of glial pruning is poorly defined. Here we show that Drosophila larval astrocytes transform into phagocytes through activation of a cell-autonomous, steroid-dependent program at the initiation of metamorphosis and are the primary phagocytic cell type in the pupal neuropil. We examined the developmental elimination of two neuron populations-mushroom body (MB) gamma neurons and vCrz(+) neurons (expressing Corazonin [Crz] neuropeptide in the ventral nerve cord [VNC])-where only neurites are pruned or entire cells are eliminated, respectively. We found that MB gamma axons are engulfed by astrocytes using the Draper and Crk/Mbc/dCed-12 signaling pathways in a partially redundant manner. In contrast, while elimination of vCrz(+) cell bodies requires Draper, elimination of vCrz(+) neurites is mediated by Crk/Mbc/dCed-12 but not Draper. Intriguingly, we also found that elimination of Draper delayed vCrz(+) neurite degeneration, suggesting that glia promote neurite destruction through engulfment signaling. This study identifies a novel role for astrocytes in the clearance of synaptic and neuronal debris and for Crk/Mbc/dCed-12 as a new glial pathway mediating pruning and reveals, unexpectedly, that the engulfment signaling pathways engaged by glia depend on whether neuronal debris was generated through cell death or local pruning
