An integrated ranking algorithm for efficient information computing in social networks
Social networks have ensured the expanding disproportion between the face of
WWW stored traditionally in search engine repositories and the actual ever
changing face of Web. Exponential growth of web users and the ease with which
they can upload contents on web highlights the need of content controls on
material published on the web. As definition of search is changing,
socially-enhanced interactive search methodologies are the need of the hour.
Ranking is pivotal for efficient web search as the search performance mainly
depends upon the ranking results. In this paper new integrated ranking model
based on fused rank of web object based on popularity factor earned over only
valid interlinks from multiple social forums is proposed. This model identifies
relationships between web objects in separate social networks based on the
object inheritance graph. Experimental study indicates the effectiveness of

Clinical submission of supernumerary head of adducter brevis muscle
Adductor brevis is an important member of the adductor family occupying the medial compartment of the thigh executing the function of adduction and medial rotation. Deviations from normal anatomy are unusual and rarely reported. A survey of anatomical archives revealed occasional mention of additional bellies of adductor brevis muscle. The present study reports a double belly of adductor brevis muscle (AB) found during a cadaveric dissection class for medical students. The left sided AB displayed two bellies disposed in the same plane. This case report attempts to present the clinical applications of supernumerary bellies of this important adductor muscle of the thigh. It is feasible to categorize these muscular variations upon specialized radiological procedures such as CT and MRI scans only if the radiologist possesses satisfactory understanding of variant anatomy of this region. Learning in the Repeated Secretary Problem
In the classical secretary problem, one attempts to find the maximum of an
unknown and unlearnable distribution through sequential search. In many
real-world searches, however, distributions are not entirely unknown and can be
learned through experience. To investigate learning in such a repeated
secretary problem we conduct a large-scale behavioral experiment in which
people search repeatedly from fixed distributions. In contrast to prior
investigations that find no evidence for learning in the classical scenario, in
the repeated setting we observe substantial learning resulting in near-optimal
stopping behavior. We conduct a Bayesian comparison of multiple behavioral
models which shows that participants' behavior is best described by a class of
threshold-based models that contains the theoretically optimal strategy.
Fitting such a threshold-based model to data reveals players' estimated
thresholds to be surprisingly close to the optimal thresholds after only a
small number of games
Preferences for Prenatal Tests for Cystic Fibrosis: A Discrete Choice Experiment to Compare the Views of Adult Patients, Carriers of Cystic Fibrosis and Health Professionals
As new technologies enable the development of non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) for cystic fibrosis (CF), research examining stakeholder views is essential for the preparation of implementation strategies. Here, we compare the views of potential service users with those of health professionals who provide counselling for prenatal tests. A questionnaire incorporating a discrete choice experiment examined preferences for key attributes of NIPD and explored views on NIPD for CF. Adult patients (n = 92) and carriers of CF (n = 50) were recruited from one children’s and one adult NHS specialist CF centre. Health professionals (n = 70) were recruited via an e-mail invitation to relevant professional bodies. The key attribute affecting service user testing preferences was no miscarriage risk, while for health professionals, accuracy and early testing were important. The uptake of NIPD by service users was predicted to be high and includes couples that would currently decline invasive testing. Many service users (47%) and health professionals (55.2%) thought the availability of NIPD for CF would increase the pressure to undergo prenatal testing. Most service users (68.5%) thought NIPD for CF should be offered to all pregnant women, whereas more health professionals (68.2%) thought NIPD should be reserved for known carrier couples. The diffuse X-ray spectrum from 14-200 keV as measured on OSO-5
The measurement of energy spectrum of the diffuse component of cosmic X-ray flux made on the OSO-5 spacecraft is described. The contributions to the total counting rate of the actively shielded X-ray detector are considered in some detail and the techniques used to eliminate the non-cosmic components are described. Positive values for the cosmic flux are obtained in seven energy channels between 14 and 200 keV and two upper limits are obtained between 200 and 254 keV. The results can be fitted by a power law spectrum. A critical comparison is made with the OSO-3 results. Conclusions show that the reported break in the energy spectrum at 40 keV is probably produced by an erroneous correction for the radioactivity induced in the detector on each passage through the intense charged particle fluxes in the South Atlantic anomaly

Chemical Amelioration of Expansive Soils
Expansive soils swell when they absorb water and shrink when water evaporates from them. Hence, lightly loaded civil engineering structures found in these soils are subjected to severe distress. Therefore, there is a need to ameliorate or improve these swelling soils through some innovative methods. This paper discusses chemical stabilisation of expansive soils, a technique in which chemical reagents such as lime and calcium chloride are added to expansive soils to reduce the volumetric changes occurring in expansive soils and also to improve their engineering behaviour
