EMG Map for Designing the Electrode Shape for Functional Electrical Therapy of Upper Extremities

Achieving the functional grasp by electrical stimulation using surface electrodes is a demanding task. The innervations of muscles come via ulnar, radial and median nerves. The anatomy of nerve branches connecting various muscles in the forearm differs significantly between individuals. We hypothesize that the anatomical differences between the paretic and nonparetic arms are minimal. Based on this assumption we developed a method where the differences of muscle activities (EMG) between the healthy and paretic arms recorded by the 24-contact electrode within an array define the target zones to be stimulated on the affected forearm. We used special electrode where magnetic contacts allow simple change of the stimulation pads. The examiner positions the magnetic contact on the pads where the EMG differences are maximal. The stimulator delivers asynchronous stimulation to the selected pads. We proved that the method is working in stroke patients by measuring joint angles and the grasping force. On Some Properties of Silver Iodide

In order to obtain the relation between several factors affecting the colloido-chemical properties of silver iodide in the heterogeneous exchange processes, the following measurements were carried out: determination of the adsorption capacity of silver iodide (radiometry) tempered from 20 up to 400 Ā°c, dry aged for 20 days to 5 years, pressed at 500 and 1500 kg cm-2 (on dried isoelectric precipitate); determination of the relation between particle size (electron microscopy) and crystallite size (X-ray diffraction analysis), and of the adsorption capacity of AgI (formed by dilution of KI + AgI complex solution) in the presence of sodium laurylsulphate (SLS); determination of the surface area (BET) of the tempered isoelectric dried silver iodide; determination of particle size and determination of the volume fraction of cubic and hexagonal modifications of AgI in the tempered samples. In conclusion, the effect of the inner surface as a possible relevant factor for the elucidation of the influence of surface active substances on acceleration of the exchange rate is pointed out. Interactions with sodium laurylsulphate are also discussed

    Multi-axis integrated Hall magnetic sensors

    Get PDF
Conventional Hall magnetic sensors respond only to the magnetic field component perpendicular to the surface of the sensor die. Multi-axis sensing capability can be provided in the following two ways: (a) by integrating magnetic flux concentrators on the die, and (b) by using vertical Hall devices. Here we review the most important two-and three-axis integrated Hall magnetic sensors based on these concepts. Their applications include mapping of magnetic fields and sensing angular position

Polarized far-infrared and Raman spectra of SrCuO2 single crystals

We measured polarized far-infrared reflectivity and Raman scattering spectra of SrCuO2_2 single crystals. The frequencies for infrared-active modes were determined using an oscillator-fitting procedure of reflectivity data. The Raman spectra were measured at different temperatures using several laser energies Ļ‰L\omega_L. In addition to eight of twelve Raman active modes, predicted by factor-group analysis, we observed a complex structure in the Raman spectra for polarization parallel to the {\bf c}-axis, which consists of Raman-allowed Ag_g symmetry modes, and B1u_{1u} LO infrared-active (Raman-forbidden) modes of the first and higher order as well as their combinations. The Raman-forbidden modes have a stronger intensity at higher Ļ‰L\omega_L than the Raman-allowed ones. In order to explain this resonance effect, we measured the dielectric function and optical reflection spectra of SrCuO2_2 in the visible range. We show that the Raman-allowed Ag_g symmetry modes are resonantly enhanced when a laser energy is close to E0E_0, while Raman-forbidden (IR-active) modes resonate strongly for laser line energies close to the electronic transition of higher energy gaps.Comment: to be published in Physica

The effect of the density of environmental samples on the counting efficiency of Ge detectors used in gamma-spectrometry was studied. The dependence Īµff(Ļ) was determined for two HPGe detectors (relative efficiencies 18% and 20%) using five radioactive standard reference materials (silicone resins, epoxy resin, milk powder, soil) with different matrix densities (0.45-1.22 g/cm3) in Marinelli beakers (V = 500 cm3). The dependence of efficiency vs. density was found to be linear and the regression parameters for energies in the range of 60-2000 keV were determined, too. The effect of variation in density on the counting efficiency of Ge detectors is dominant in the range of lower energies (60-600 keV) and de creases with energies in the higher energy range.

Morphological characterization of sweet sorghum genotypes across environments

    Get PDF
Sweet sorghum being a C4 crop accumulates more sugar in its stalks, also suitable for biofuel production and has high degree of tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Morphological characteristics i.e., plant height, plant biomass, leaves on the stem, panicle length and yield of crude biomass of sweet sorghum genotypes were studied across different environments. Environments and genotype by environment interaction (GEI) had a significant effect on the yield of crude biomass. The smallest yield of crude biomass was achieved in 2016 (42.54 t ha(-1)), which was found significantly lower as compared to that in 2014 and 2015. The average plant height had a significant and positive correlation with the number of leaves (0.54) and number of leaves had highly a significant and positive correlation with the mass of stem (0.46) and panicle length (0.61). Biomass yield was positively and significantly correlated with precipitation (0.72) and negatively significantly correlated with temperature (-0.57). In breeding of sweet sorghum, the highest attention should be given to biomass yield as it manage the whole variation and controlled by polygenes

Energy refurbishment of public buildings under cultural heritage protection in Serbia Constraints and Potentials

    Get PDF
By harmonizing national legislation to European codes concerning energy efficiency in building sector, Serbia took commitment to improve energy efficiency of national government buildings. Following the Directive 2012/27/EU principles, refurbishment of this part of building stock is recognized as a leading example in long-therm process of applying energy efficiency regulations at national level. Initial steps in implementation of adopted energy efficiency principles were made in Serbia during 2015, when first energy certificates for three most valuable buildings of national authorities (Government building, The National Assembly, and the Palace of Serbia) were issued. This paper will present results obtained during energy-assessment and energy-certification process of this particular buildings, showing at the same time their specificity, that pretty much traces possible category and range of proposed energy refurbishment scenarios
