Marginal Society Depicted in Krishnan's Songs

    Get PDF
Food, clothing, and shelter, which are considered essential human needs, are still not available to all. People who do not get all these are considered lower class people, marginal people, and common people. They are still living above a certain percentage of the society we live in. Creators who express their lives through nature, music, and drama are found in literature in various languages. Today, their lives are shared through the media. Among these media, the film industry is considered important. The purpose of this article is to explore the lives of marginalised people through the soundtracks featured in these films. Through screen songs, Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram, NS Krishnan, Kannadasan, and Vairamuthu were among those who created works to let the layman know the life of the common people. One of them was NS Krishnan, who was born on November 29, 1908, to Sudalaiyandi-Ishakiyammal from a small village near Nagercoil in the Kanyakumari district. The primary sources for this study are the songs composed for the film by NS Krishnan, who has expressed himself on various platforms as a theatre actor, film actor, and lyricist. He was the one who recorded the lives of the lower-class people as they were without fear of bureaucracy. He was known to be a left-wing thinker. Their works sounded like film songs as the voices of the working people who toiled all day long were not met. This analysis will be done by dividing the ideas contained in these songs into three parts, namely food, clothing, and shelter

Determination of gross energy of feeds

The amount of heat, measured in calories, that is released when a substance is completely oxidized in a bomb calorimeter containing 25 to 30 atmospheres of oxygen, is called the gross energy (GE) of the substance. A sample of the material to be tested is weighed into a combustion capsule. The combustion capsule is placed in an oxygen bomb containing 25 to 30 atmospheres of oxygen. The oxygen bomb is covered with 2000 g of water in an adiabatic calorimeter. After the bomb and calorimeter have been adjusted to the same temperature, the sample is Ignited with a fuse wire. The temperature rise is measured under adiabatic conditions. From the hydrothermal equivalent of the calorimeter the temperature rise minus some small corrections for fuse wire oxidation and acid production, the caloric content of the sample is calculated

Reading contributes to the incidental acquisition of vocabulary

Research within the realm of second language acquisition has demonstrated the salience of reading for learning incidental vocabulary. Although many studies have investigated the incidental acquisition of vocabulary through reading, only a few studies have explored the extent to which vocabulary learning is dependent on the pleasure and frequency of extensive reading. In an attempt to fill this gap, this study reports the association between vocabulary competence and free reading, reading pleasure, and reading frequency of 239 Indian ESL learners. We administered a questionnaire to measure the said components of reading. We employed the locally modified Oxford b1 online vocabulary proficiency test to measure the vocabulary competence of learners. The findings indicated that reading frequency and reading pleasure significantly affected the vocabulary scores. There was no direct effect when the participants were merely involved in reading their own choice. We observed that free reading contributed significantly to reading pleasure and reading frequency and thereby to the participants’ vocabulary test scores. Concepts in marine biotechnology and their applications for enhancing aquaculture productivity

Application of biotechnology techniques to agriculture increased the quality and quantity of the final yield. Genetic engineering applied to the production of fish, molluscs and crustaceans although at the rudimentary stage offers promise. Besides, other techniques like tissue culture, chromosomal engineering, cryopreservation of embryos, and production of transgenic organisms also offer immense scope to expand and improve aquaculture operations

THE FUTURE OF WILDFLOWER RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA - THE LACHENALIA CASE STUDY

This paper reports the socio-economic impact of the lachenalia research program of the ARCRoodeplaat Vegetable and Ornamental Plant Institute (ARC-Roodeplaat) over the period 1965-2010. Data were collected from researchers, the local propagator and the market agent in Holland, using guidelines and questionnaires. A financial and economic analysis were conducted. The results of both were negative, unless increased productivity, early entry into all potential markets and a decreased research gestation period were assumed. Additional impacts were qualitatively assessed. The program contributed to employment creation, the preservation of biodiversity, capacity building and beneficial institutional linkages. The management information generated by the study was used in planning and priority setting at the institute.Crop Production/Industries, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,

NC2213: a novel methionine aminopeptidase 2 inhibitor in human colon cancer HT29 cells

Methionine aminopeptidase 2 (MetAP2) is a bifunctional protein that plays a critical role in the regulation of post-translational processing and protein synthesis. MetAP2 is overexpressed in human colon cancer. In this report we screened various MetAP2 inhibitors and treated HT29 cells with various concentrations of compounds. We evaluated the expression of MetAP2 and pp60c-src expressions in HT29 cells. In addition we also carried out the cell proliferation and cell cycle analysis in the MetAP2 inhibitor-treated HT29 cells. The cell cycle analysis of HT29 treated with 1.0 μM of NC2213 showed an arrest in the G2 phase followed by an induction in the percentage of cells undergoing apoptosis in the sub-G1 phase. Western blot analysis revealed that the MetAP2 expression was dose-dependently decreased when the HT29 cells were treated with the 3,5-bis(benzylidene)-4-piperidone derivative (NC2213). In addition, phosphorylation of Src, a myristoylated oncoprotein was significantly decreased by 1.0 μM of NC2213 as revealed by Western blot analysis. Furthermore, NC2213 also inhibits the expression of pp60c-src in HT29 cells. Interestingly, this compound also inhibits the phosphorylation at Tyr416 of pp60c-src while increasing the phosphorylation at Tyr527 of pp60c-src. NC2213 inhibits the growth of HT29 cells by inducing apoptosis and might be useful for the treatment of human colon cancer

A Clean Slate Design for Secure Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks -Part 1: Closed Synchronized Networks

    Get PDF
Abstract-We propose a clean-slate, holistic approach to the design of secure protocols for wireless ad-hoc networks. We design a protocol that enables a collection of distributed nodes to emerge from a primordial birth and form a functioning network. We consider the case when nodes are synchronized and the network is closed, in that no other nodes can join. We define a game between protocols and adversarial nodes, and describe a protocol that is guaranteed to achieve the max-min payoff regardless of what the adversarial nodes do. Moreover, even though the adversarial nodes always know the protocol a priori, we show an even stronger result; the protocol is guaranteed to achieve the min-max payoff. Hence there is a saddle point in the game between protocols and adversarial strategies. Finally, we show that the adversarial nodes are in effect, strategically confined to either jamming or conforming to the protocol. These guarantees are contingent on a set of underlying model assumptions, and cease to be valid if the assumptions are violated
