    One of the goals of aerospace applications is to reduce the cost and complexity of avionic systems. Ethernet is a highly scalable, flexible, and popular protocol. The aerospace market is large, with a forecasted production of over 50,000 turbine-powered aircraft valued at 1.7trillionbetween2012and2022.Boeingestimatesdemandforcommercialaircraftby2033tototalover36,000withavalueofover1.7 trillion between 2012 and 2022. Boeing estimates demand for commercial aircraft by 2033 to total over 36,000 with a value of over 5 trillion. In 2014 US airlines served over 750 million passengers and this is growing over 2% yearly. Electronic fly-by-wire is now used for all airliners and high performance aircraft. Although Ethernet has been widely used for four decades, its use in aerospace applications is just beginning to become common. Ethernet is the universal solution in commercial networks because of its high bandwidths, lower cost, openness, reliability, maintainability, flexibility, and interoperability. However, when Ethernet was designed applications with time-critical, safety relevant and deterministic requirements were not given much consideration. Many aerospace applications use a variety of communication architectures that add cost and complexity. Some of them are SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX), and Time-Triggered Ethernet (TTE). Aerospace network designers desire to decrease the number of networks to reduce cost and effort while improving scalability, flexibility, openness, maintainability, and reliability. AFDX and TTE are being considered more for critical aerospace systems because they provide redundancy, failover protection, guaranteed timing, and frame priority and are based on Ethernet IEEE 802.3.     Remote terminal system evaluation

    An Earth Resources Data Processing System was developed to evaluate the system for training, technology transfer, and data processing. In addition to the five sites included in this project two other sites were connected to the system under separate agreements. The experience of these two sites is discussed. The results of the remote terminal project are documented in seven reports: one from each of the five project sites, Purdue University, and an overview report summarizing the other six reports

    Technical Note: A rotary seed processor for removing pubescence from seed of prairie grasses

    Many of the perennial prairie grasses that are used in restoration plantings in the central Great Plains have seed appendages such as awns and pubescence that make seed flow through planters difficult. We have developed a rotary seed processor that efficiently processes small breeder or experimental lots of seed that can then be easily planted with small plot cone planters or conventional planters. The processor consists of a metal cylinder that is lined with corrugated rubber and a rotating center shaft with rubber paddles. Processing can be controlled by varying shaft rotation speed and processing time. A top-opening, full length trap door allows for easy loading and the cylinder can be inverted to dump out processed seed. The processor has been used successfully for several years on big bluestem [Andropogon gerardii Vitman], indiangrass [Sorghastrum nutans (L.) Nash], little bluestem [Schizachyrium scoparium (Michaux) Nash], prairie sandreed [Calamovilfa longifolia (Book.) Scribner], and blue grama [Boureloua gracilis (Willd. ex Kunth) Lagascaex Griffiths] seed. By removing seed appendages and pubescence, seed bulk is reduced and seed density and flow ability are improved. The processing operation is relatively gentle and seed germination per unit weight of seed is improved. Nosotros hemos desarrollado un procesador de semilla que process eticientemente pequeiios lotes de semillas con fries de reproduction de germoplasma o experimentales. De &a manera, las semillas podran ser facilmente sembrados con un sembrador de cone para pequefias parcelas, o con sembradoras convencionales. El procesador consiste de un cilindro o tambor de metal forrado en su interior con hule corrugado. Paletas de hule adjuntas a un eje que atraviesa el cilindro y que son rotadas por polea, golpean las semillas. El proceso puede ser controlado variando el tamaiio de polea y la velocidad de rotacibn, y por el tiempo que la semilla permanece rotando dentro de la unidad. El cilindro cuenta con una puerta en la parte superior que permite el facil acceso de la semilla dentro de la unidad. Cuando la semilla ha sido procesada, el cilindro puede ser invertido para retirar la semilla de la unidad. El procesador ha sido exitosamente usado por varios aiios en big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii Vitman), indiangrass [Sorghastrum nutans (L.) Nash], little bluestem [Schizachyrium scoparium (Michx.)     Liver fluke vaccines: Vaccination Against Fasciolosis by a Multivalent Vaccine of Recombinant Stage-Specific Antigens

    Fasciola\u27s excretory-secretory material comprises chiefly cathepsin B and cathepsin L. These cysteine proteases are proposed as major mediators of parasitism, and are considered targets for vaccination. In order to assess the vaccine efficacy of these enzymes, single and multivalent recombinant protein vaccinations of adult-stage F. hepatica cathepsin L5, metacercarial-stage F. gigantica cathepsin L1 g and juvenile-stage F. hepatica cathepsin B were analysed in rats against F. hepatica challenge infection. The protective efficacy of anti-fluke vaccines was evaluated in terms of parasitological parameters (recovered fluke burden, fluke body size and wet weight) and pathological changes (liver damage score) in rats. The rats vaccinated with recombinant proteins were shown to have significantly fewer and smaller flukes than the control rats. A maximum protection of 83% was seen in the group vaccinated with a combination of cathepsin B and cathepsin L5

    The genetics of reproductive isolation and the potential for gene exchange between Drosophila Pseudoobscura and D. Persimilis via backcross hybrid males

    Hybrid male sterility, hybrid inviability, sexual isolation, and a hybrid male courtship dysfunction reproductively isolate Drosophila pseudoobscura and D. persimilis. Previous studies of the genetic bases of these isolating mechanisms have yielded only limited information about how much and what areas of the genome are susceptible to interspecies introgression. We have examined the genetic basis of these barriers to gene exchange in several thousand backcross hybrid male progeny of these species using 14 codominant molecular genetic markers spanning the five chromosomes of these species, focusing particularly on the autosomes. Hybrid male sterility, hybrid inviability, and the hybrid male courtship dysfunction were all associated with X-autosome interactions involving primarily the inverted regions on the left arm of the X-chromosome and the center of the second chromosome. Sexual isolation from D. pseudoobscura females was primarily associated with the left arm of the X-chromosome, although both the right arm and the center of the second chromosome also contributed to it. Sexual isolation from D. persimilis females was primarily associated with the second chromosome. The absence of isolating mechanisms being associated with many autosomal regions, including some large inverted regions that separate the strains, suggests that these phenotypes may not be caused by genes spread throughout the genome. We suggest that gene flow between these species via hybrid males may be possible at loci spread across much of the autosomes

    Description and Impact of Encounters With Deceased Partners or Spouses

    This study investigates perceived interactions with the deceased, a phenomenon reported across societies, with 30-34% of individuals likely experiencing at least one ADC in their lifetime. Despite this prevalence, studies examining the impact of ADCs’ on those who have lost partners are limited. We present data from 70 individuals reporting partner ADCs via an online survey. Forty percent reported accelerated recovery and 42.9% confirm the ADCs’ significant influence in their grieving, with 61% expressing a desire for continued contact. ADCs, interestingly, didn’t worsen their pain. The influence on grief-related sadness varied: 41% noted no change, while 40% reported reduced sadness. Forty-seven percent ac- knowledged ADCs eased their loss acceptance. The data highlight ADCs’ substantial, po-tentially therapeutic role in grief and healing, despite varying effects on sadness and recovery.This study underscores the ADCs’ possible positive influence on bereaved partners, ad-vocating for a deeper understanding of this phenomenon in the grieving process
