Information use of police force occurs when information acquired by the police to satisfy an information need based on task assigned to them is actually put to use. Information is therefore useful and valuable if after receiving it, it changes things, decisions, behaviour or one’s character and solves the problem for which the information is sought. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The study population comprised 2,305 police officers in Alimosho Local Government Police Division. Stratified random sampling method was used to select 227 police officers. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation; and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used for the test of hypotheses. The study established that the police officers use information for three major situations; victims and suspects, unusual circumstances and actualities and quotes (mean=3.72) for all. The result of the quality of service showed that the police ensured that clients’ voices count in all cases (mean=2.98). There was positive significant relationship between the information use and quality service of Nigeria police (r =.117, p >.05). A large proportion of use of relevant and adequate information has helped the police to solve problems needed on security and protection of individual citizens and also improve their services. This has helped in the delivery of quality service to the citizens. The study therefore recommended that the Government should create a policy that will enable free flow of information between the citizens and the police force, and make available access to internet facilities in their various stations for relevant information needed for their effective use on tasks as this will lead to achieving quality of their services to the citizen, and increase the achievement of their goals and objectives

Benthic macroinvertebrate communities in Salado and Loa Rivers, Antofagasta Region, Chile

The Loa River is the longest Chilean river with 440 km, located in the Atacama Desert. It has three tributaries’ rivers, and its fauna has been poorly studied, due to mainly access difficulties. The aim of the present study was the first characterization of benthic invertebrate community structure in a confluence of Loa and Salado rivers considering the derive invertebrates and benthic communities. The results revealed that species composition in benthic samples has no significant differences between Salado and Loa rivers before the confluence with Salado River, but both sites had significantly high species numbers in comparison to Loa River in Calama after Salado confluence whereas in derive species composition did not have species differences. Finally, the results of null models revealed that species number for three sites had no structured pattern for benthic and derive samples. Ecological and biogeographical topics were discussed here

First Description of Invertebrate Benthic Fauna in the Middle Zone of the Loa River (Chile)

Aquatic insect communities in inland waters of Chile are characterised by the presence of certain species depending on water quality, but there is little information on statistical ecology in the structure of insect communities. The aim of the present study was to apply null models to explain the structure of aquatic insects in the middle zone of the Loa River, in the Atacama Desert (Antofagasta Region, Chile; 23°S). The results of the null models of species co-occurrence showed that species associations are random, while niche sharing showed that species share ecological niches and consequently there is interspecific competition. The reported taxa are similar to communities for other North Patagonian rivers in terms of community structure

Background: This paper investigates the role of information literacy skills on use of information resources by medical students in Lagos state. Objectives: Find out the types of information resources available, level of availability and the skills for accessing them, level of information resources used, is there a significant relationship between information literacy skills and use of information resources. Methods: The study adopted a survey research design. Total enumeration sampling technique was employed. Self-structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to test the hypothesis. Results: The study found out that print newspapers, textbooks and e-resources were mostly available to the Medical students. Conclusion: the study concludes that adequate attention should be given to information literacy by ensuring that medical students acquire relevant competencies which are essential for information search

The study looks at factors affecting information literacy skills and information use by Legislators in South West, Nigeria. In south West Nigeria, there are six states namely, Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti. For the purpose of this study, only three states were randomly selected for this study and they are: Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti. In all, there are seventy-eight Lawmakers cut across the states selected for the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, the instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire, it was administered to all the seventy-eight Lawmakers. Sixty-seven out of the seventy-eight questionnaire returned usable and this brings the response rate to 85.9%. The results from data gathered was analyzed using percentages. The result is presented in tables. The study found that Lawmakers in the selected States House of Assembly have acquired basic skills on information literacy which made information search and use easy for them. The study also revealed that there were some factors still affecting information use by these Lawmakers. It concluded that right information is a necessity when it comes to taking decisions

Marine climatological datasets for the Maltese Islands

During the last 25 years of activity, the Physical Oceanography Research Group, previously known as the PO-Unit, and currently established within the Department of Geosciences of the University of Malta, has been promoting the downscaling of broad scope marine core services to higher resolution local scale domains for the Maltese Islands. Several services are delivered either by an intrinsic data elaboration or by making use of and integrating the COPERNICUS Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) data to local marine data streams. Local observations are also integrated with higher resolution forecasts for the preparation and provision of dedicated services that address real specific needs of sub-regional and coastal users. This effort has yielded valuable climatological datasets covering the Maltese coastal waters and spanning over several years. This work focusses on the climatologies derived from numerical models and satellites, and compiled within the Interreg MED programme AMAre (Actions for Marine Protected Areas) project.peer-reviewe
