Göksun ofiyolitine ait (Kahramanmaraş-Türkiye) yayla ilişkili volkanik kayaçların alkali-silika reaksiyonu potansiyeli
The alkali-silica reactivity is one of the most important problems that can occur in concrete structures.
Because of their wide spectrum of mineralogical compositions and phases, volcanic rocks are more
likely to cause alkali-silica reactivity. In this study, alkali-silica reactivity potentials of the rocks
representing the upper levels of the crustal section of the Late Cretaceous suprasubduction-type
Göksun ophiolite in the Tauride ophiolitic belt have been investigated. The Göksun ophiolite displays
and intact ophiolite pseudostratigraphy with the thick layer of volcanic section characterized by a
different composition of rock units such as basalt, basaltic-andesite, andesite, dacite and rhyolite.
Firstly, the petrographic determinations of the samples derived from these volcanic units were made
and then geochemical analyzes carried out on the same specimens to control the accuracy of the
petrographic analyzes and the rocks were classified according to trace elements. Finally, the
accelerated mortar bar method was applied on the concrete bars produced from same rock samples to
compare the variation of Alkali-Silica Reactivity (ASR) with lithology. The test results yielded that the
intermediate volcanics have much Alkali Silica Reactivity (ASR) potential than basic and acidic volcanics
(basalts, rhyolites and dacites). It is estimated that the glassy matrix of the intermediate volcanics is
partly responsible for the alkali-silica reactivity. SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, Na2O and K2O values have show
positive correlation with the amounts of expansion in the andesite and basaltic andesites, whereas the
major oxide contents of acidic and basic volcanic rocks have no clear relation with the expansion ratios.

SUMMARY
There are many different societies living around the world. Thinkers who search
for the reasons of this diversity explain it by the cultural differences of societies.
Accordingly, their common historical background, geography and climatic conditions,
religious beliefs, world visions, economic and social structures, culture, as well as the
elements that make up this culture diverges one society form the other. This research
starts with the First Age; when origins of the social life have first flourished. Research
has found out that there have occurred different social developments in Asia and Europe
because of the existence of different cultural elements. The importance of these cultural
elements changes according to time and society. Moreover, these cultural elements have
been the main factors that shaped the interior spaces of the period.
In the First Age, social life in the West was started with urbanization and shaped
by Greek philosophy. In the Middle Ages, Christianity was adopted and scholastic
philosophy was outweighed. In this period, churches and castles gained importance with
the emergence of the strength of feudal lords. In the New Era, which started with
Humanism, the value of the individual in the society was increased. However in the
Modern Age, which started with the Enlightenment, rapid industrial and technological
developments changed social life radically. Thereafter, population increase, inventions,
industrial revolution and the modernism conception of 20th century have been the
factors that shaped Western society and social structures.
In the Far East, settled life was started in the First Age with rice farming, and that
has been the origin of the social life. This life that basically shaped by Shinto belief has
been influenced by Buddhist faith by Buddhism. Development of urban planning and its
reflection into interior spaces, ascending influence of Buddhism, Buddhist sects and
especially Zen philosophy, increasing importance of feudal lords with their castles as a
result of wars, and peasants that in time became dependent upon these lords constructed
the general structure of Middle Ages. Afterwards, the missionary activities of
Europeans have caused a peculiar cultural development in the Far East. The attempts to
keep up with the West, which started in 19th century; industrial and technological
IX
developments; and conventionality that continues in the society have been the
determining elements of the 20th century.

An Overview of the Impacts of Geological Hazards on Production
Throughout history, human beings have been affected by the ongoing events in their environment. While some of the events take place in the sphere they live on, some of them are in the way that events outside the earth affect the world. Necessary measures should be taken on time and in place so that people are not adversely affected or at least minimally affected by the aforementioned events. Geological hazards are the most important risks that occur in the environment of human beings and have a high probability of damaging people’s life and property. In terms of risk management of geological hazards, which are divided into four main groups as seismic, hydro-meteorological, terrain instability and volcanic hazard and have their own characteristics, the efforts to prevent and reduce losses for each of them also differ within themselves. In this review article, geological hazards were introduced in general by giving various examples from the world, the effects of geological disasters on the economy and production were discussed, and the points to be considered for each risk were tried to be emphasized
: res., hrt. ; 29 cm.There are a number of tectono-magmatic/stratigraphic units that have intrusive and tectonic contact relationships among each other in Baskil-Sivrice (Elazığ) area. These are namely; Malatya-Keban platform, Kömürhan ophiolite, Ensimatic island arc unit and Baskil granitoid. The Late Cretaceous Kömürhan ophiolite crops out to the west of the Lake Hazar, and has a genetic link with the İspendere ophiolite to the west and Guleman ophiolite to the east. In the north the Kömürhan ophiolite tectonically overlain by the Malatya-Keban platform and in turn intruded by the Baskil granitoid whereas in the south it is thrust over the Middle-Eocene Maden Complex. The Kömürhan ophiolite presents an intact oceanic lithospheric section and comprises from bottom to top tectonites, cumulates, isotropic gabbros, sheeted dike complex and volcanics. A thin slice of metamorphic sole rocks, metamorphosed in the amphibolite facies during the intra-oceanic subduction, is observed at the base of the tectonites. The tectonites are represented by the serpentinized harzburgite and lherzolite. The ultramafic cumulate rocks overlying the tectonites are represented by wehrlites, and in some areas they also exhibit intrusive contact relationships with the overlying gabbroic cumulate rocks. The mafic cumulates are characterized by olivine gabbro, gabbro, gabbro-norite and amphibole gabbro and pass upward into the isotropic gabbroic rocks....Baskil-Sivrice (Elazığ) bölgesinde birbirleriyle intrüzif ve tektonik dokanak ilişkisine sahip bir çok tektono-magmatik/stratigrafik birim yeralmaktadır. Usability of obsidian with special refraction as an ornamental stone by bonding with epoxy resin
Ornamental stones have been used quite a lot from past to present, and they are produced both naturally and synthetically in terms of visuality, durability and rarity. Naturally used ornamental stones are divided into two different classes as precious and semi-precious, and obsidian with two different colors belonging to the Nemrut volcanics used in the study is classified as semi-precious stones. Obsidian is a volcanic glass, showing a special fracture (conchoidal) and fracture surfaces give the rock a distinctive shine. In this study, obsidian was classified by breaking in different sizes (8-4.75 mm, 4.75-2 mm and 2-0.6 mm) in order to achieve this brightness. While black obsidian shards were obtained from 4.75-2 mm in size, brown obsidian shards were obtained from 2-0.6 mm shards and chose with the help of tweezers. Obsidian fragments with both colors were bonded with epoxy resin mixed at a ratio of 2:1 (epoxy and hardener) and placed in jewelry apparatus. The known durability properties and gloss of epoxy and the gloss on the broken surfaces of obsidian have been highlighted, and it has been observed that obsidian which has been used with different cutting and polishing techniques until now, can be obtained as a new product by using binder material. It is suitable to be used as an ornamental stone in jewelry making as a result of binding the obsidian fragments with epoxy by making use of the shines that occur on the fractured surfaces of the obsidian. In addition, it has been revealed that new products can be obtained as a result of bonding many natural rocks and minerals by using different binding materials
Investigation of the Physical, Mechanical and Aesthetic Characteristics of Terrazo Tiles Obtained from Different Rock Aggregates
Throughout history, people have covered the floors of the buildings with materials such as carpet, rock pieces, wood, mosaic, ceramic and tile according to the conditions of the day due to their desire to protect them from moisture, make them hygienic environment easy to clean and give an aesthetic appearance. The merging of mechanization with cement based materials with the industrial revolution in the 19th century has brought along the development of diversity and different production methods in these floor covering materials. One of these coating materials is terrazo tiles that form the subject of the current paper. Terrazo tiles are materials obtained by pressing the mortar obtained by mixing water, cement, marble powder and aggregate in certain proportions. Within the scope of this research, it was aimed to provide alternative raw materials to the tile body and to transform the rock pieces, which are found in waste form in natural stone workshops, into the economy. For this purpose, geomaterials collected from magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks cropped in the Kahramanmaraş-Antakya-Elazığ regions and natural stone workshops operating in Kahramanmaraş city, were classified according to their geological origins and aggregates of 4.75-12 mm were obtained with the help of jaw crushers and sieves. Tiles have been produced in accordance with the method of tile production from sized aggregates. The produced tiles were kept in the water pool for 28 days and surface controls were made. According to the physical and mechanical test results applied to the tile samples, water absorption by weight is 5.31-13.25%, bending strength 4.95-8.89 MPa, Böhme abrasion resistance 1.09-3.43 cm3 /50 cm2 , mass loss after freeze-thaw is observed to be in the range of 0.97-1.59%. On the other hand, the surface roughness of the tiles prepared with coarse rock aggregates was found to be relatively lower than the tile samples obtained with fine grained rock aggregates. The obtained results indicate that the geomaterials subject to the research can be used as an alternative raw material source in tile production and these raw materials will provide new benefits to the construction field
