    Biosecurity of Poultry Worker Related to Avian Influenza in Bangladesh

    Research on biosecurity of poultry workers of Live Bird Market (LBM) in urban and rural areas related to highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) was undertaken during March-June, 2014 at Keshabpur upazila (22°48´-22°57´N latitude and 89°06´-89°22´E longitude), Jessore, Bangladesh. A non-randomized (purposive) sampling method was applied and a descriptive type of cross sectional study was performed among 72 workers, dividing them into two groups as 36 urban and 36 rural poultry workers of LBM through split-halves variation technique. They were interviewed confidentially in their work place using a structured pretested questionnaire. Among respondents 53%, 75%, 45%, 81%, and 56% of urban and 50%, 42%, 50%, 89%, and 36% of rural residence had attended up to primary school, knowledge about AI through media like TV and radio, used proper personal protective equipment as mask and gloves, washed their hands and equipment after finishing work and cleaned stalls/cages daily and mostly they used water as a cleaning material, respectively. In urban (14%) and rural (36%) workers used the same vehicle to transport poultry and humans. A combined effort is required to enhance knowledge and change behavior among those most at risk in low-income countries and precautions necessary to avoid spreading the virus among poultry and humans

    Microarray screening of Guillain-Barré syndrome sera for antibodies to glycolipid complexes

    Objective: To characterize the patterns of autoantibodies to glycolipid complexes in a large cohort of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and control samples collected in Bangladesh using a newly developed microarray technique. Methods: Twelve commonly studied glycolipids and lipids, plus their 66 possible heteromeric complexes, totaling 78 antigens, were applied to polyvinylidene fluoride–coated slides using a microarray printer. Arrays were probed with 266 GBS and 579 control sera (2 μL per serum, diluted 1/50) and bound immunoglobulin G detected with secondary antibody. Scanned arrays were subjected to statistical analyses. Results: Measuring antibodies to single targets was 9% less sensitive than to heteromeric complex targets (49.2% vs 58.3%) without significantly affecting specificity (83.9%–85.0%). The optimal screening protocol for GBS sera comprised a panel of 10 glycolipids (4 single glycolipids GM1, GA1, GD1a, GQ1b, and their 6 heteromeric complexes), resulting in an overall assay sensitivity of 64.3% and specificity of 77.1%. Notable heteromeric targets were GM1:GD1a, GM1:GQ1b, and GA1:GD1a, in which exclusive binding to the complex was observed. Conclusions: Rationalizing the screening protocol to capture the enormous diversity of glycolipid complexes can be achieved by miniaturizing the screening platform to a microarray platform, and applying simple bioinformatics to determine optimal sensitivity and specificity of the targets.     PERFOGRAPH: A Numerical Aware Program Graph Representation for Performance Optimization and Program Analysis

    The remarkable growth and significant success of machine learning have expanded its applications into programming languages and program analysis. However, a key challenge in adopting the latest machine learning methods is the representation of programming languages, which directly impacts the ability of machine learning methods to reason about programs. The absence of numerical awareness, composite data structure information, and improper way of presenting variables in previous representation works have limited their performances. To overcome the limitations and challenges of current program representations, we propose a novel graph-based program representation called PERFOGRAPH. PERFOGRAPH can capture numerical information and the composite data structure by introducing new nodes and edges. Furthermore, we propose an adapted embedding method to incorporate numerical awareness. These enhancements make PERFOGRAPH a highly flexible and scalable representation that can effectively capture program intricate dependencies and semantics. Consequently, it serves as a powerful tool for various applications such as program analysis, performance optimization, and parallelism discovery. Our experimental results demonstrate that PERFOGRAPH outperforms existing representations and sets new state-of-the-art results by reducing the error rate by 7.4% (AMD dataset) and 10% (NVIDIA dataset) in the well-known Device Mapping challenge. It also sets new state-of-the-art results in various performance optimization tasks like Parallelism Discovery and Numa and Prefetchers Configuration prediction

    A Chain Oriented Data Collection Protocol for Energy-Aware and Delay-Constrained WSN

    Energy awareness plays an important role in developing routing protocol for the battery powered wireless sensor networks. As the replacement of the battery is often unfeasible in practical situations, we present here an optimal solution for the maximum utilization of precious available energy at the same time trying to minimize the latency in data delivery. We propose to form hierarchical chains with deployed sensors to collect information from a target field where data get fused at every node level before transmitted finally. Our protocol utilizes the higher energy nodes for more frequent long distance transmissions so that the energy expenditure become even between all nodes in the network irrespective of their physical locations. It has been found in our simulation that this protocol outperforms other hierarchical protocols like LEACH and PEGASIS in both the cases of energy consumption and time requirements respectively. It has been also found that the overall lifetime of the sensor network also increases in our protocol

    A CASE STUDY ON GAS RECOVERY UNIT FOR R-22

    The present research is concerned with proper recovery of the R-22 [1] gas, which is widely used in various R.A.C. fields on the system failure and reusing these recovered gases again for the future use. It is well known that various cooling units are widely spread in their applications and are circulating R-22 as a refrigerant. It is intended to recover this type of refrigerant by any means preventing its ill effects on environment. The time required for recovering is less, hence the system requires less time. The recovery rate of the unit ranges between 1 to 2 kg/min for 1 ton capacity of the system. We can use the unit for any ton capacity of the breakdown system refrigeration and air conditioning system to recover the gas. The. Global warming [2] is the process wherein the average temperature of the Earth\u27s near surface air increases, owing largely to various man-made activities. Though there are some natural causes for this rise in temperature, they stand to be insignificant when compared to the man-made causes. One camel respond to injection of corticosteroid into the cavity of the tarsal sheath but other did not, therefore surgical approach was determined.     Hypersensitivity reactions to intravenous ferric carboxymaltose in a patient with iron deficiency anemia: a rare case report

    Ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) is a non-dextran iron preparation recently approved in the United States for intravenous treatment of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in adult patients with intolerance or poor response to oral iron therapy. Acute hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) during iron infusions are very rare but can be life-threatening. Adverse events, including immune system disorders (0% in FCM) and skin disorders (7.3% in FCM), are less frequently observed with FCM. On treatment with FCM, the change in hemoglobin from baseline to the highest observed level is about 2.8g/dL. Treatment of IDA with FCM resulted in fewer hypersensitivity reactions. Here, authors report a case of a 23 years old female diagnosed for IDA presented with the picture of adverse drug reaction due to injection FCM given by the physician. The patient was managed with Antibiotics, Corticosteroids and Intravenous fluids and recovered well within 12 hours of admission from this adverse drug reaction. Since such cases have been rarely reported, authors are intended to notify about this potentially dangerous drug reaction due to FCM which is used extensively in the treatment of IDA. Hence management of iron infusions requires very careful and precise observation, and, in the event of an adverse reaction, prompt recognition and severity-related interventions by well-trained medical and nursing staff

    Tailoring the dispersibility of non-covalent functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) nanosuspension using shellac (SL) bio-resin: Structure-property relationship and cytotoxicity of shellac coated carbon nanotubes (SLCNTs)

    This study first reports the use of natural thermoplastic bio-resin shellac (SL) to functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The MWCNTs were coated with 5, 10, and 15 wt% SL solutions to fabricate SLCNT nanocomposites which are highly dispersible and stable in solution. Enhanced surface charge imparted long-term stabilization of SLCNT nanosuspension. Microscopic analysis revealed distinct dispersion of nanotubes and a thin layer of SL on the surface of nanotubes in the nanocomposite system. FTIR and Raman spectroscopy confirmed well interaction between SL and MWCNT in the nanocomposites. It was disclosed by the microstructure analysis that the SL concentration affects the lattice parameters of SLCNT nanocomposites. The thermal stability of SLCNT was impressive compared to MWCNT. According to the ROS (reactive oxygen species) generation profile and cell viability study, SLCNTs have reduced adverse effects on cells. Therefore, the results confirm that shellac can significantly improve the stability of MWCNT and reduce the cytotoxicity to facilitate their widespread applications
