Constitutive Equations for Use in Design Analyses of Long-life Elevated Temperature Components

    Get PDF
Design analysis needs and procedures relative to elevated temperature components in liquid metal fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) system were examined. The effects of the thermal transients on the pressure boundary components are enhanced by the excellent heat transfer properties of the liquid sodium coolant. Design criteria for high temperature nuclear reactor components recognize the potential occurrence of inelastic structural response. Specifically, criteria and limits were developed which reflect a recognition of this potential and employ design by analysis concepts that requires that inelastic (elastic-plastic and creep) analyses be performed. Constitutive equations to represent multiaxial time-dependent responses of LMFBR alloys are established. The development of equations applicable under cyclic loading conditions are outlined

Use of the Hedonic Method to Estimate Lake Sedimentation Impacts on Property Values in Mountain Park and Roswell, GA

    Get PDF
Metropolitan Atlanta has experienced explosive population growth in the past few decades, which has resulted in rapid residential growth. The City of Roswell is one the best examples of residential growth on the urban fringe of Atlanta, with its housing stock increasing by more than 50 percent from 1990 to 2000. Stormwater runoff created from these development sites is expected to be causing sedimentation accumulation in lakes within Roswell and a neighboring, downstream wildlife refuge located in the City of Mountain Park. Because sedimentation tends to fill-in and shrink lakes, our results provide some indication of the potential property damages associated with sedimentation. Furthermore, our results provide evidence that lake value is not monotonically increasing with lake size, which is believed to be due to the influence that geographic, environmental, and social factors have on the degree to which lakes add value to housing prices.Land Economics/Use,

Evaluating the effectiveness of public support on inbound open innovation: evidence from Spanish manufacturing SMEs

    Get PDF
Applying several matching estimators to a sample of Spanish manufacturing SMEs, we evaluate the impact of regional and federal funding on inbound open innovation strategies. Such SMEs are more likely to respond to public support by increasing either their cooperation with government institutions or their investment in extramural R&D than by enhancing cooperative networks. A policy corollary is to promote measures to attenuate cooperation failures. Methodologically, each type of funding and each type of cooperative partner should be considered separately. Moreover, overestimation of treatment effects when firms' unobserved characteristics are not addressed suggests that sensitivity analysis should complement matching estimation

Generation of internal stress and its effects

Internal stresses may be generated continually in many polycrystalline materials. Their existence is manifested by changes in crystal defect concentration and arrangement, by surface observations, by macroscopic shape changes and particularly by alteration of mechanical properties when external stresses are simultaneously imposed

A novel route to Pt-Bi2O3 composite thin films and their application in photo-reduction of water

    Get PDF
A novel homoleptic bismuth(III) β-diketonate (dibenzoylmethane – dbm) complex [Bi(dbm)3]2 has been used as a precursor to thin films of crystalline β-Bi2O3, and hexachloroplatinic acid (H2PtCl6·6H2O) has been demonstrated as a suitable precursor for deposition of platinum nanoparticles, both deposited via aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition (AACVD). Thin films of Pt–Bi2O3 were co-deposited from a mixture of [Bi(dbm)3]2 and H2PtCl6·6H2O; the introduction of Pt particles into β-Bi2O3 causes hydrogen to be evolved during photolysis of water over the composite material, a property not found for Pt particles or β-Bi2O3 alone
