    Analysis of Quality of Pharmacy Management Information System at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang

    Introduction: Hospital is one of the important links in the service delivery system to the community so that the hospital is expected to provide information to support the provision of timely and accurate services. To improve the quality of hospital services, an up to date information system is needed. The user satisfaction on information system can be used to evaluate the quality of an organization's information system. Objective: to evaluate the quality of the pharmacy management information system (PMIS) at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital (SAIH), Semarang, and determine the priority of area for improvements.Methods: In this cross-sectional qualititative study, the responses of all employees to questionnaire were obtained; these employees worked at the pharmacy of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital in Semarang. The PIECES method was applied. The data analysis included gap and customer windowResults: The gap value on the dimension of performance, information, economic, control, efficiency, service was -1.10, -0.82, -0.28, -0.22, 0.01, -0.62, respectivelyConclusion: The user’s unfulfilled expectation on PMIS at SAIH including dimensions of performance, information, economy, control, service, and efficiency. Priority areas for quality improvement of PMIS at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital’s phamacy included the menu display, system responsiveness, the completeness of the system, no error occurs, the alert system of the drug stock, the responsiveness of the IT department to the problem of PIMS use

    Appropriate selection of medicines is needed to support its rational use. Medicines selection based upon a hospital formulary is an attempt to uncreate the medicine efficiency management. The objective of this study Was to evaluate and compare the intrinsic value of seven grade C-hospital formularies in Yogyakarta, also concerning the development and revision of the used fonnularies. The result showed that the percentage of purchase of non-formularium medicines and that of the non-formularium medicines in stock were influenced by the frequency of revision of the formulary itselfand drug policy in relation to the addition and deletion process of the used fonnulary. Non-formulary medicines purchase was low in hospitals which frequently revised the formulary, but hospital With no policy concerning addition and deletion increased the purchase of non formulary medicines. Besides that the use of brand name products in hospitals of the state was much lesser than that used in non-state hospitals (296-532 vs 573-1575). Fonnulary evaluation of state hospitals in comparison with non-state hospitals Were as follows: essential medicines (41-71% vs 20-28%), medicines with primary literature (73-90% vs 67-73%), drugs with single component (41-71% vs 20-28%) The quality of formulary in state and non-state grade C-hospitals in Yogyakarta must be improved

    ABSTRACT Background: Drug is the biggest component of health service cost in Indonesia. Thus, drug cost control through generic prescribing would increase efficiency of health service. In an effort to increase generic prescribing, PKU Muhammadiyah hospital in Yogyakarta published Administration Decision Letter No.13291E-IV/SK.3.2/11/1999 and No. 1330/E-IV/SK.3.2/11/1999, which allow the Pharmacy Instalation substitutes branded-generic to generic on patients\u27 request. Decrease of hospital revenue could be avoided by a financing scheme, which provides a financial incentive to the hospital. This study aimed to analyze drug cost of PKU Muhammadiyah hospital out patient department and design a financing scheme, which support generic substitution implementation in that hospital. This study also analyzed effectiveness of implementation of generic substitution policy in PKU Muhammadiyah hospital. Method: This study was designed as a quasi-experimental case study, analytical and explorative. Data was gathered through observing documentation and interviewing officers related to policy implementation, and also a simple survey to outpatient of PKU Muhammadiyah hospital. The reduction of drug cost caused by generic substitution was statistically analyzed using a t-test. The effectiveness of implementation of generic substitution was evaluated by assessing influence of policy on generic prescription and drug cost. Result: Result of the study showed that through generic substitution, drug cost decreased very significantly (p=0,000) from Rp 35.042,- to Rp 26.218,- and the potential saving is Rp 4.687.923,- for 531 prescription or Rp 8.824,- per prescription. The package rate based on patient\u27s ability to pay is Rp 28.800,-. The differences between drug cost and package rate could have been used as financial incentive to the hospital. Implementation of generic substitution policy at PKU Muhammadiyah hospital increased insignificantly (p=0,297) percentage of brand name substituted from 2,56% to 3,52%. But, there is no increase in percentage of using generic medicine, which even decrease insignificantly (p=0,062) from 36,22% to 31,55%. There is a significant increase (p=0,022) in prescription cost from Rp22.990,- in 1998 to Rp28.403,- in 2000. Keywords: analysis, generic substitution, hospita
