secundaria. The authors present a retrospective study of 30 patients with tears of the rotator
cuff treated surgically. The ages of the patients were distributed mainly among the 5th and 6th
decades of life. Twenty cases were treated with anterior acromioplasty and open reparation, 5 of
them with open acromioplasty and the othen 5 with single suture. The follow-up time was 4 years
and 3 months. The clinical result was graded according to Wülker's scala used in various shoulder
conditions (Pain, function and stability). Singles tears in the youngest. In the best results were obtained
with acromioplasty and the rotator cuffs reparation simultaneously, together with an early
phisical rehabilitation. In 3 cases, a recurrent rotator cuff tear it could be prove
A 14-year-old boy with progressive cervical kyphosis is reported. The patient was remitted to our hospital 7 months after a diving accident. Clinically, he showed pain, antialgic position and limited mobility. The radiological study showed cervical kyphosis C2-C4. Due to kyphotic radiographic progression (48º) and functional limitation, surgical stabilization through a posterior approach was decide, performing C2-C4 arthrodesis with Halifax Clamp and bone graft. After two years of follow-up, the patient is asympthomatic with 18º remnant kyphosis that clinically does not limit full flexion and extension
Two new case s of traumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis, Effendi's type
I, associated to fracture of the odontoid process are reported. Surgical treatment wa s
not necessary in any of the cases. Repair of both fractures wa s adrieved by means of
inmovilization with halo-chest orthesis
We present an unfrequent case of bilateral fracture of the medial epicondyle, in a
15-year-old boy that was treated with Kirschner wires and anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve
Alkaloids Analysis of Habranthus cardenasianus (Amaryllidaceae), Anti-Cholinesterase Activity and Biomass Production by Propagation Strategies
Plants in the Amaryllidaceae family synthesize a diversity of bioactive alkaloids. Some of these plant species are not abundant and have a low natural multiplication rate. The aims of this work were the alkaloids analysis of a Habranthus cardenasianus bulbs extract, the evaluation of its inhibitory activity against cholinesterases, and to test several propagation strategies for biomass production. Eleven compounds were characterized by GC-MS in the alkaloid extract, which showed a relatively high proportion of tazettine. The known alkaloids tazettine, haemanthamine, and the epimer mixture haemanthidine/6-epi-haemanthidine were isolated and identified by spectroscopic methods. Inhibitory cholinesterases activity was not detected. Three forms of propagation were performed: bulb propagation from seed, cut-induced bulb division, and micropropagated bulbs. Finally, different imbibition and post-collection times were evaluated in seed germination assays. The best propagation method was cut-induced bulb division with longitudinal cuts into quarters (T1) while the best conditions for seed germination were 0-day of post-collection and two days of imbibition. The alkaloids analyses of the H. cardenasianus bulbs showed that they are a source of anti-tumoral alkaloids, especially pretazettine (tazettine) and T1 is a sustainable strategy for its propagation and domestication to produce bioactive alkaloids. Keywords: Amaryllidaceae; bioactive alkaloids; GC-MS; propagation methods; biomass productio
Safety Property Verification of ESTEREL Programs and Applications to Telecommunications Software
. We present a technique for automatically verifying linear-time temporal logic safety properties of programs written in ESTEREL, a formally-defined language for programming reactive systems. In our approach, linear-time temporal logic safety properties are first translated into ESTEREL programs that model these properties. Using the ESTEREL compiler, the translations are compiled in parallel with the ESTEREL program to be verified. A trivial reachability analysis of the output of the compiler then indicates whether or not the safety property is satisfied by the program. We describe two real-world software problems --- ESTEREL versions of two features of the AT&T 5ESS R fl switching system --- and one well-known benchmark problem --- the generalized railroad crossing problem --- that we have verified using our technique and associated tool set. 1 Introduction The ESTEREL programming language [5] is a formally-defined, high-level language designed specifically for progra..
