Micro-channel–based high specific power lithium target
A micro-channel–based heat sink has been produced and tested. The device has been developed to be used as a Lithium target for the LENOS (Legnaro Neutron Source) facility and for the production of radioisotope. Nevertheless, applications of such device can span on many areas: cooling of electronic devices, diode laser array, automotive applications etc. The target has been tested using a proton beam of 2.8MeV energy and delivering total power shots from 100W to 1500W with beam spots varying from 5mm2 to 19mm2. Since the target has been designed to be used with a thin deposit of lithium and since lithium is a low-melting-point material, we have measured that, for such application, a specific power of about 3kW/cm2 can be delivered to the target, keeping the maximum surface temperature not exceeding 150◦C
CellPhoneDB v5: inferring cell-cell communication from single-cell multiomics data
Cell-cell communication is essential for tissue development, regeneration and
function, and its disruption can lead to diseases and developmental
abnormalities. The revolution of single-cell genomics technologies offers
unprecedented insights into cellular identities, opening new avenues to resolve
the intricate cellular interactions present in tissue niches. CellPhoneDB is a
bioinformatics toolkit designed to infer cell-cell communication by combining a
curated repository of bona fide ligand-receptor interactions with a set of
computational and statistical methods to integrate them with single-cell
genomics data. Importantly, CellPhoneDB captures the multimeric nature of
molecular complexes, thus representing cell-cell communication biology
faithfully. Here we present CellPhoneDB v5, an updated version of the tool,
which offers several new features. Firstly, the repository has been expanded by
one-third with the addition of new interactions. These encompass interactions
mediated by non-protein ligands such as endocrine hormones and GPCR ligands.
Secondly, it includes a differentially expression-based methodology for more
tailored interaction queries. Thirdly, it incorporates novel computational
methods to prioritise specific cell-cell interactions, leveraging other
single-cell modalities, such as spatial information or TF activities (i.e.
CellSign module). Finally, we provide CellPhoneDBViz, a module to interactively
visualise and share results amongst users. Altogether, CellPhoneDB v5 elevates
the precision of cell-cell communication inference, ushering in new
perspectives to comprehend tissue biology in both healthy and pathological

Identificação molecular de Aspergillus spp. isolados de grãos de café
Algumas espécies pertencentes ao gênero Aspergillus possuem potencial para produção de Ocratoxina A (OA), uma micotoxina de efeitos nefrotóxicos, imunossupressivos, teratogênicos e carcinogênicos. Com o objetivo de identificar as espécies de Aspergillus que contaminam o interior de grãos de café, foram coletadas amostras em diferentes estádios de maturação do produto, em 16 propriedades produtoras do norte do estado do Paraná. Um total de 108 isolados de Aspergillus spp. foram identificados ao nível de espécie, pelo sequenciamento dos espaços internos transcritos (ITS1-5,8S-ITS2) do DNA ribossomal (rDNA). Os resultados revelaram a presença de espécies potencialmente ocratoxigênicas em 82% das regiões analisadas, sendo dentre estas, Aspergillus niger a espécie mais freqüentemente detectada,seguida por A. ochraceus, e A. carbonarius. É relatada pela primeira vez a presença de A. carbonarius em frutos de café coletados na árvore.Some species belonging to the genus Aspergillus are potential producers of ochratoxin A (OA), a mycotoxin with nephrotoxic, immunosuppressive, teratogenic and carcinogenic effects. The aim of the present study was to identify the species of Aspergillus that contaminate the inside of coffee beans collected in the stage of maturation and drying, from 16 producing areas located in the northern region of the State of Paraná, in the South of Brazil. A total of 108 isolates of Aspergillus spp. was identified at the species level, by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) of ribosomal DNA (rDNA). The results revealed the presence of potentially ochratoxigenic species in 82% of the geographic regions studied, among which Aspergillus niger was the species most frequently detected, followed by A. ochraceus and A. carbonarius. The presence of A. carbonarius in immature coffee fruits harvested from trees is reported for the first time
Circulating cell-free DNA-based biomarkers for prognostication and disease monitoring in adrenocortical carcinoma
Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare aggressive cancer with heterogeneous behaviour. Disease surveillance relies on frequent imaging, which comes with significant radiation exposure. The aim of the study was to investigate the role of circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA)-related biomarkers (BM) for prognostication and monitoring of ACC.We investigated 34 patients with ACC and 23 healthy subjects (HS) as controls. ccfDNA was extracted by commercial kits and ccfDNA concentrations quantified by fluorimeter (BM1). Targeted sequencing was performed using a customised panel of 27 ACC-specific genes. Leucocyte DNA was used to discriminate somatic variants (BM2), while tumour DNA was sequenced in 22/34 cases for comparison. Serial ccfDNA samples were collected during follow-up in 19 ACC patients (median period 9 months) and analysed in relationship with standard radiological imaging.ccfDNA concentrations were higher in ACC than HS (mean±SD, 1.15±1.56 vs 0.05±0.05 ng/µl, P<0.0001), 96% of them being above the cut-off of 0.146 ng/µl (mean HS+2SD, positive BM1). At ccfDNA sequencing, 47% of ACC showed at least one somatic mutation (positive BM2). A combined ccfDNA-BM score was strongly associated with both progression-free and overall survival (HR=2.63, 95%CI=1.13-6.13, P=0.010, and HR=5.98, 95%CI=2.29-15.6, P=0.0001, respectively). During disease monitoring, positive BM2 showed the best specificity (100%) and sensitivity (67%) to detect ACC recurrence or progress compared to BM1.In conclusion, ccfDNA-related BMs are frequently detected in ACC patients and represent a promising, minimally invasive tool to predict clinical outcome and complement surveillance imaging. Our findings will be validated in a larger cohort of ACCs with long-term follow-up
Towards the critical behavior for the light nuclei by NIMROD detector
The critical behavior for the light nuclei with A has been
investigated experimentally by the NIMROD multi-detectors. The wide variety of
observables indicate the critical point has been reached in the disassembly of

Evidence of Critical Behavior in the Disassembly of Nuclei with A ~ 36
A wide variety of observables indicate that maximal fluctuations in the
disassembly of hot nuclei with A ~ 36 occur at an excitation energy of 5.6 +-
0.5 MeV/u and temperature of 8.3 +- 0.5 MeV. Associated with this point of
maximal fluctuations are a number of quantitative indicators of apparent
critical behavior. The associated caloric curve does not appear to show a
flattening such as that seen for heavier systems. This suggests that, in
contrast to similar signals seen for liquid-gas transitions in heavier nuclei,
the observed behavior in these very light nuclei is associated with a

Critical Behavior in Light Nuclear Systems: Experimental Aspects
An extensive experimental survey of the features of the disassembly of a
small quasi-projectile system with 36, produced in the reactions of 47
MeV/nucleon Ar + Al, Ti and Ni, has been carried
out. Nuclei in the excitation energy range of 1-9 MeV/u have been investigated
employing a new method to reconstruct the quasi-projectile source. At an
excitation energy 5.6 MeV/nucleon many observables indicate the presence
of maximal fluctuations in the de-excitation processes. The fragment
topological structure shows that the rank sorted fragments obey Zipf's law at
the point of largest fluctuations providing another indication of a liquid gas
phase transition. The caloric curve for this system shows a monotonic increase
of temperature with excitation energy and no apparent plateau. The temperature
at the point of maximal fluctuations is MeV. Taking this
temperature as the critical temperature and employing the caloric curve
information we have extracted the critical exponents , and
from the data. Their values are also consistent with the values of the
universality class of the liquid gas phase transition. Taken together, this
body of evidence strongly suggests a phase change in an equilibrated mesoscopic

Tracing the Evolution of Temperature in Near Fermi Energy Heavy Ion Collisions
The kinetic energy variation of emitted light clusters has been employed as a
clock to explore the time evolution of the temperature for thermalizing
composite systems produced in the reactions of 26A, 35A and 47A MeV Zn
with Ni, Mo and Au. For each system investigated, the
double isotope ratio temperature curve exhibits a high maximum apparent
temperature, in the range of 10-25 MeV, at high ejectile velocity. These
maximum values increase with increasing projectile energy and decrease with
increasing target mass. The time at which the maximum in the temperature curve
is reached ranges from 80 to 130 fm/c after contact. For each different target,
the subsequent cooling curves for all three projectile energies are quite
similar. Temperatures comparable to those of limiting temperature systematics
are reached 30 to 40 fm/c after the times corresponding to the maxima, at a
time when AMD-V transport model calculations predict entry into the final
evaporative or fragmentation stage of de-excitation of the hot composite
systems. Evidence for the establishment of thermal and chemical equilibrium is
