Ionization and Fragmentation of a Global Warming Gas by EUV and X-Ray Photons

An experimental investigation of the processes leading tothe fragmentation of the singly ionized 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a, CH2FCF3) by EUV and soft X-rays is presented. HFC-134ais taken into consideration as the most convenient replacement for CFC-12 in refrigeration applications due to the fact that it has null ozone depletion factor. Dissociation of the singly ionized HFC-134amolecule was induced by valence, direct and indirect C 1s core photoionization or photoexcitation and the ionic fragments were detected in coincidence (PEPICO mode) with the ejected electrons without energy analysis. The singly ionized parent ion CF4CH2+can be detected even at photon energies above the C 1s threshold

Efficacy of Physical Therapy Associated with Botulinum Toxin Type A on Functional Performance in Post-Stroke Spasticity: A Randomized, Double-Blinded, Placebo-Controlled Trial

The aim was to investigate if botulinum toxin type A (BTx-A) associated with physical therapy is superior to physical therapy alone in post stroke spasticity. A randomized, double-blinded controlled trial was performed in a rehabilitation unit on Northeastern, Brazil. Patients with post stroke spasticity were enrolled either to BTx-A injections and a pre-defined program of physical therapy or saline injections plus physical therapy. Primary endpoint was functional performance evaluated through time up and go test, six minutes walking test and Fugl-Meyer scale for upper limb. Secondary endpoint was spasticity improvement. Confidence interval was considered at 95%. Although there was a significant decrease in upper limbs flexor tonus (P<0.05) in the BTx-A group, there was no difference regarding functional performance after 9 months of treatment. When analyzing gait speed and performance, both groups showed a significant improvement in the third month of treatment, however it was not sustained over time. Although BTx-A shows superiority to improve muscle tone, physical therapy is the cornerstone to improve function in the upper limbs of post stroke patients

COMPORTAMENTO DA RADIAÇÃO SOLAR NO BREJO PARAIBANO

Analisar o comportamento da radiação solar na região do Brejo Paraibano é um importante passo para compreendermos o clima dessa região, uma vez que a mesma, influencia toda dinâmica climática da Terra e conseqüentemente as atividades humanas. Tendo em vista a escassez de estudos sobre a insolação na região bem como no Brasil como um todo, foi desenvolvido um trabalho no período compreendido entre os anos de 1974 a 2008, onde foram analisados uma série de dados de insolação e umidade relativa do ar, sendo estes, trabalhados por meio de médias, distribuídos em tabelas e gráficos com a finalidade de uma melhor compreensão dos aspectos gerais dos fatores determinantes do clima desta região, além de propiciar subsídios para pesquisas e estudos mais amplos, merecendo destaque áreas relacionadas ao melhor aproveitamento agrícola, além das várias questões relacionadas ao planejamento urbano e construção civil, tendo por base o conforto térmico. Concluindo-se que o comportamento da insolação na região do Brejo Paraibano sofreu variações significativas ao longo do período trabalhado

VARIAÇÃO CLIMÁTICA NO BREJO PARAIBANO E SUA INFLUÊNCIA NA PRODUTIVIDADE DA CANA-DE-ACÚCAR

Diante da constatação que a temperatura é um fator de grande importância para a maturação fisiológica da cana-de-açúcar e que a quantidade de água no solo, na fase inicial de desenvolvimento da mesma, poderá comprometer toda a exploração, foi desenvolvido um trabalho no período de Fevereiro a Maio de 2008, com o objetivo de avaliar a variação climática no Brejo paraibano e sua influência na produtividade da cana-de-açúcar. Foi constatado através da análise do comportamento histórico da temperatura média do ar e pluviometria, obtido através da determinação das médias anuais, que a temperatura média do ar apresentou, no período de 1974 a 2008, um aumento de 0,0242 0 C ao ano, o correspondente a um aumento na temperatura de 1,2 0 C nos próximos 50 anos. E a variação anual da precipitação pluvial no período de 1974 a 2008 apresentou uma taxa negativa de 4,696 mm/ano, representando uma diminuição de 234,8 mm nos próximos 50 anos. Tendo em vista que a disponibilidade de água no solo desempenha um papel importante na elongação dos perfilhos e altura final dos colmos na cana-de-açúcar, bem como, o aumento da temperatura pode ocasionar uma reversão da sacarose em frutose e glicose além da redução da fotossíntese, e aumento da respiração da planta, levando a um menor acúmulo de açúcares, conclui-se que, se a redução da precipitação hídrica em conjunto com o aumento da temperatura média do ar for mantida nos próximos anos, poderão comprometer significativamente o desenvolvimento do cultivo canavieiro no Brejo paraibano

To analyze the behavior of the solar radiation in Brejo Paraibano area is an important step for we understand the climate of that area, once the same influences all dynamic climatic of the Earth and consequently the human activities. Tends in view the shortage of studies about the heatstroke in the area as well as in Brazil as a whole, a work was developed in the period understood among the years from 1974 to 2008, where a series of heatstroke data and relative humidity of the air were analyzed, being these, worked through averages, distributed in tables and graphs with the purpose of a better understanding of the general aspects of the decisive factors of the climate of this area, besides propitiating subsidies for researches and wider studies, deserving detaches areas related to the best agricultural use, besides the several subjects related to the urban planning and building site, tends for base the thermal comfort. Variação climática no brejo paraibano e sua influência na produtividade da cana-de-acúcar

Due to the verification that the temperature is a factor of great importance for the physiologic maturation of the sugarcane and that the amount of water in the soil, in the initial phase of development of the same, it can commit all the exploration, a work was developed in the period of February to May of 2008, with the objective of evaluating the climatic variation in the Swamp paraibano and his/her influence in the productivity of the sugarcane. It was verified through the analysis of the historical behavior of the medium temperature of the air and rainny season, obtained through the determination of the annual averages, that the medium temperature of the air presented, in the period from 1974 to 2008, an increase of 0,0242 0 C/ year, the correspondent to an increase in the temperature of 1,2 0 C in the next 50 years. And the annual variation of the pluvial precipitation in the period from 1974 to 2008 presented a negative tax of 4,696 mm/ year, representing a decrease of 234,8 mm in the next 50 years.
