Third order differential subordination and superordination results for analytic functions involving the Srivastava-Attiya operator

In this article, by making use of the linear operator introduced and studied by Srivastava and Attiya \cite{srivastava1}, suitable classes of admissible functions are investigated and the dual properties of the third-order differential subordinations are presented. As a consequence, various sandwich-type theorems are established for a class of univalent analytic functions involving the celebrated Srivastava-Attiya transform. Relevant connections of the new results are pointed out.Comment: 16. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1809.0651

Authority and Tradition: A Study of (pseudo)-Feminist Voice in Bankim Chandr Chattopadhyay’s Rajmohan’s Wife

Get PDF
Babu Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya is a renowned name in the history of Indian struggle for Independence. He is the writer of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ of India. This song created an effervescence among Indians in that era to be united for the freedom of their country and to break together the shackles of slavery. Apart from this he is a strong signature in Bangla Literature. This is disappointing to know that Rajmohan’s Wife is his only novel written in English though it records the true picture of its time at its best. Authority and tradition are two words which seem synonymous to each other. Tradition apparently denotes a continuation and acceptance of norms and myth in society. It also showcases a peculiar kind of imitation. When tradition becomes an integral part of normativity it also exhibits a strong authority towards those traditions. Patriarchy may be the similar kind of traditional authority that was spontaneously born due to the flow of imitation, approval and power. This paper tries to explore those issues closely related to authority a form of power and tradition as an internalized system in determining and demeaning the position and status of women in the early decades of the 19th century India. Indeed, India was facing the high tides of upheaval in its social, political and cultural milieu that became the fundamental factors in generating turmoil in the lives of the people. Our paper attempts to explore the feminist or pseudo-feminist voice in the novel along with its connection with authority and tradition

Effect of Methylprednisolone in Periarticular Infiltration for Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty on Pain and Rehabilitation

Get PDF
Background: Optimal pain management after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is important to ensure timely rehabilitation and patient satisfaction. This study examines the efficacy of adding corticosteroid in periarticular infiltration cocktail with relation to postoperative pain management and rehabilitation in patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral TKA. Methods: Fifty patients with symptomatic end-stage bilateral knee osteoarthritis undergoing bilateral TKA under the same anesthetic were recruited. More painful knee was operated first, and the study solution containing ropivacaine, clonidine, epinephrine, and ketorolac with methylprednisolone was infiltrated in one knee and an identical mixture but without methylprednisolone was infiltrated in the second knee. Outcome measures included comparison of visual analogue scale on movement of each knee and range of motion achieved during the first three days after surgery. Results: Differences in visual analogue scale score and range of motion at day one and three between the two groups of knees were significant (P < .05). Postoperative inflammation and the ability to straight leg raise showed better trends in the knees receiving prednisolone although this did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: Addition of methylprednisolone to periarticular infiltration cocktail for patients undergoing TKA has significant influence on reduction of pain in the early postoperative period and patients are able to regain knee flexion more quickly

Differential partitioning of thiols and glucosinolates between shoot and root in Chinese cabbage upon excess zinc exposure

Zinc (Zn) is one of the important elements of plant growth, however, at elevated level it is toxic. Exposure of Chinese cabbage to elevated Zn2+ concentrations (5 and 10 μM ZnCl2) resulted in enhancement of total sulfur and organic sulfur concentration. Transcript level of APS reductase (APR) as a key enzyme in biosynthesis of primary sulfur compounds (cysteine and thiols), was up-regulated in both shoot and root upon exposure to elevated Zn2+, which was accompanied by an increase in the concentration of cysteine in both tissues. In contrast, the concentration of thiols increased only in the root by 5.5 and 15-fold at 5 and 10 μM Zn2+, respectively, which was in accompanied by an upregulation of ATP sulfurylase, an enzyme responsible for activation of sulfate. An elevated content of glucosinolates, mostly indolic glucosinolates, only in the shoot of plants exposed to excess level of Zn2+ coincided with an increase in gene expression of key biosynthetic enzymes and regulators (CYP79B3, CYP83B1, MYB34). Thus distinct acuumulation patterns of sulfur containing compounds in root and shoot of Chinese cabbage may be a strategy for Chinese cabbage to combat with exposure to excess Zn

Genetic variability and character association in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

Get PDF
Sixty four genotypes of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) were evaluated for geneticvariability, correlation and path coefficient analysis at Jagudan (Gujarat). Phenotypic andgenotypic coefficients of variability were high for grain yield plant-1, number of pods plant-1and number of primary branches plant-1. Moderate heritability estimates along with highgenetic advance as percentage of mean were recorded for number of pods plant-1. Highheritability estimates along with moderate to low genetic advance as percentage of meanwere recorded for days to maturity and plant height. Grain yield was positively correlatedwith number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1 and 1000 seed weight. Results of pathanalysis revealed that number of pods plant-1, days to 50% flowering and test weight hadhighest positive direct effects on grain yield. It was concluded that improvement of seed yieldin fenugreek is possible through selection for number of pods and seed weight throughnumber of grains and length of pods. &nbsp

Plant diversity assessment of selected forest sites of Gaya district of Bihar, India

Regular inventorization and monitoring of biodiversity is paramount for its conservation and sustainable utilization. Gaya district of the Bihar is endowed with rich biodiversity. For proper understanding of plant diversity, quantitative status of the vegetation is essentially required. The aim of the study was to assess different forest sites of the Gaya district of Bihar in India for their plant diversity. Study was carried out in these randomly selected eleven forest sites (Site I to Site XI). A total of 174 species belonging to 150 genera and58 families(48 Dicotyledons, 7 monocotyledons and 3 pteridophytes) were reported from all eleven study sites. Five largest families in the area were Poaceae (22 spp.), Fabaceae (14 spp.), Asteraceae (11 spp.), Rubiaceae (9 spp.) and Acanthaceae (7 spp). Different diversity attributes such as Important Value Index (IVI ), Species richness, Shannon Wiener index, Concentration of dominance and Evenness for tree, shrub and herb layers were estimated. For different sites highest IVI values for tree, shrubby and herbaceous layers were reported.Shannon wiener Index values for tree, shrubby and herbaceous layer of Nagobar site were estimated3.376, 1.986 and 2.350 respectively. Tree diversity was highest at Nagobar site whereas shrub and herb diversity was also reasonably better than most of the sites. Hence, it was revealed from the study that Nagobar site was most diverse site in the Gaya district. Study will be immense use for officials of forest department, researcher, students etc. for carrying out conservation and management work. Similar kind of study should be carried out in different forest sites of the country to get capture the status of the plant diversity for conservation and sustainable utilization.
