Protecting Real Estate Contract Purchases
Many assignees of the vendors\u27 interests in installment contracts for the sale of real estate suppose that the recording of the assignment protects them by giving constructive notice of their rights. The increasing amount of investment in real estate contracts makes it important to determine the best method for protecting the assignee. Our Supreme Court\u27 has said that recording is purely a creation of the statute , and since the recording of such assignments is not provided for by statute it would seem that no constructive notice follows from recording

Ephedra-Induced Gastric Mucosal Injury
In this case report we detail the difficult case of a 74-year-old male patient who was transferred to our cardiac intensive care unit in severe shock with an acute abdomen. His abdomen was emergently explored revealing isolated gastric necrosis and ischemia. A subtotal gastrectomy was performed and the patient was discharged from the hospital 34 days after surgery. Postoperatively we learned that for the preceding 2 weeks the patient had doubled the dose of Forcalide syrup which he had been taking for his reactive airway disease for many years. Formal testing of this fluid revealed a concentrated sugar-based solution with a high concentration of both Ephedra and potassium chloride. Final pathology of the resected stomach demonstrated patent vessels to the stomach with extensive microvascular thrombosis and full-thickness gastric necrosis. On final summation of this case we concluded that the Ephedra in the patient's Forcalide syrup caused the microvascular necrosis seen in the stomach and should be added to the list of potential adverse reactions seen with the ingestion of ephedrine

Transcriptional down-regulation of ccr5 in a subset of HIV+ controllers and their family members.
HIV +Elite and Viremic controllers (EC/VCs) are able to control virus infection, perhaps because of host genetic determinants. We identified 16% (21 of 131) EC/VCs with CD4 +T cells with resistance specific to R5-tropic HIV, reversed after introduction of ccr5. R5 resistance was not observed in macrophages and depended upon the method of T cell activation. CD4 +T cells of these EC/VCs had lower ccr2 and ccr5 RNA levels, reduced CCR2 and CCR5 cell-surface expression, and decreased levels of secreted chemokines. T cells had no changes in chemokine receptor mRNA half-life but instead had lower levels of active transcription of ccr2 and ccr5, despite having more accessible chromatin by ATAC-seq. Other nearby genes were also down-regulated, over a region of ~500 kb on chromosome 3p21. This same R5 resistance phenotype was observed in family members of an index VC, also associated with ccr2/ccr5 down-regulation, suggesting that the phenotype is heritable
Advancing Cervical Cancer Prevention in India: Implementation Science Priorities
Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality in India, accounting for 17% of all cancer deaths among women aged 30 to 69 years. At current incidence rates, the annual burden of new cases in India is projected to increase to 225,000 by 2025, but there are few large-scale, organized cervical cancer prevention programs in the country. We conducted a review of the cervical cancer prevention research literature and programmatic experiences in India to summarize the current state of knowledge and practices and recommend research priorities to address the gap in services. We found that research and programs in India have demonstrated the feasibility and acceptability of cervical cancer prevention efforts and that screening strategies requiring minimal additional human resources and laboratory infrastructure can reduce morbidity and mortality. However, additional evidence generated through implementation science research is needed to ensure that cervical cancer prevention efforts have the desired impact and are cost-effective. Specifically, implementation science research is needed to understand individual- and community-level barriers to screening and diagnostic and treatment services; to improve health care worker performance; to strengthen links among screening, diagnosis, and treatment; and to determine optimal program design, outcomes, and costs. With a quarter of the global burden of cervical cancer in India, there is no better time than now to translate research findings to practice. Implementation science can help ensure that investments in cervical cancer prevention and control result in the greatest impact
A simple method for studying operant wheel running in rats
The present report describes an operant running device for rats. The apparatus makes use of an activity wheel driven by a small electric motor. The motor is started by a bar press; one activated, the wheel turns for 3-30 sec. depending on the setting of a timing device. Interleukin-23 engineering improves CAR T cell function in solid tumors
Cytokines that stimulate T cell proliferation, such as interleukin (IL)-15, have been explored as a means of boosting the antitumor activity of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells. However, constitutive cytokine signaling in T cells and activation of bystander cells may cause toxicity. IL-23 is a two-subunit cytokine known to promote proliferation of memory T cells and T helper type 17 cells. We found that, upon T cell antigen receptor (TCR) stimulation, T cells upregulated the IL-23 receptor and the IL-23α p19 subunit, but not the p40 subunit. We engineered expression of the p40 subunit in T cells (p40-Td cells) and obtained selective proliferative activity in activated T cells via autocrine IL-23 signaling. In comparison to CAR T cells, p40-Td CAR T cells showed improved antitumor capacity in vitro, with increased granzyme B and decreased PD-1 expression. In two xenograft and two syngeneic solid tumor mouse models, p40-Td CAR T cells showed superior efficacy in comparison to CAR T cells and attenuated side effects in comparison to CAR T cells expressing IL-18 or IL-15
The First Swift Ultra-Violet/Optical Telescope GRB Afterglow Catalog
We present the first Swift Ultra-Violet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) gamma-ray
burst (GRB) afterglow catalog. The catalog contains data from over 64,000
independent UVOT image observations of 229 GRBs first detected by Swift, the
High Energy Transient Explorer 2 (HETE2), the INTErnational Gamma-Ray
Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL), and the Interplanetary Network (IPN). The
catalog covers GRBs occurring during the period from 2005 Jan 17 to 2007 Jun 16
and includes ~86% of the bursts detected by the Swift Burst Alert Telescope
(BAT). The catalog provides detailed burst positional, temporal, and
photometric information extracted from each of the UVOT images. Positions for
bursts detected at the 3-sigma-level are provided with a nominal accuracy,
relative to the USNO-B1 catalog, of ~0.25 arcseconds. Photometry for each burst
is given in three UV bands, three optical bands, and a 'white' or open filter.
Upper limits for magnitudes are reported for sources detected below 3-sigma.
General properties of the burst sample and light curves, including the
filter-dependent temporal slopes, are also provided. The majority of the UVOT
light curves, for bursts detected at the 3-sigma-level, can be fit by a single
power-law, with a median temporal slope (alpha) of 0.96, beginning several
hundred seconds after the burst trigger and ending at ~1x10^5 s. The median
UVOT v-band (~5500 Angstroms) magnitude at 2000 s for a sample of "well"
detected bursts is 18.02. The UVOT flux interpolated to 2000 s after the burst,
shows relatively strong correlations with both the prompt Swift BAT fluence,
and the Swift X-ray flux at 11 hours after the trigger.Comment: 60 pages, 17 figures, 8 tables, accepted for publication by the
