Acceleration Of Protons To Above 6 MeV Using H2O >Snow> Nanowire Targets
A scheme is presented for using H2O >snow> nanowire targets for the generation of fast protons. This novel method may relax the requirements for very high laser intensities, thus reducing the size and cost of laser based ion acceleration system.Physic
Transition between nuclear and quark-gluon descriptions of hadrons and light nuclei
We provide a perspective on studies aimed at observing the transition between
hadronic and quark-gluonic descriptions of reactions involving light nuclei. We
begin by summarizing the results for relatively simple reactions such as the
pion form factor and the neutral pion transition form factor as well as that
for the nucleon and end with exclusive photoreactions in our simplest nuclei. A
particular focus will be on reactions involving the deuteron. It is noted that
a firm understanding of these issues is essential for unraveling important
structure information from processes such as deeply virtual Compton scattering
as well as deeply virtual meson production. The connection to exotic phenomena
such as color transparency will be discussed. A number of outstanding
challenges will require new experiments at modern facilities on the horizon as

Switching between different vortex states in 2-dimensional easy-plane magnets due to an ac magnetic field
Using a discrete model of 2-dimensional easy-plane classical ferromagnets, we
propose that a rotating magnetic field in the easy plane can switch a vortex
from one polarization to the opposite one if the amplitude exceeds a threshold
value, but the backward process does not occur. Such switches are indeed

Noise-induced switching between vortex states with different polarization in classical two-dimensional easy-plane magnets
In the 2-dimensional anisotropic Heisenberg model with XY-symmetry there are
non-planar vortices which exhibit a localized structure of the z-components of
the spins around the vortex center. We study how thermal noise induces a
transition of this structure from one polarization to the opposite one. We
describe the vortex core by a discrete Hamiltonian and consider a stationary
solution of the Fokker-Planck equation. We find a bimodal distribution function
and calculate the transition rate using Langer's instanton theory (1969). The
result is compared with Langevin dynamics simulations for the full many-spin

Patient and public involvement in health literacy interventions: a mapping review
Background: Health literacy is a critical mediating factor that impacts on the health of older adults. Patient and public involvement in health and social care research, policy and design of care delivery is one mechanism that can promote production of better health literacy. This mapping review looks for and describes practices, concepts and methods that have been reported involving patients, public and (non-researcher) professionals in the development and design of health literacy interventions for older people. Methods: Studies that aimed to improve health literacy were identified within a previously created compatible inventory of health behaviour studies for older people. Articles were screened for whether they addressed health literacy and featured involvement of stakeholders other than investigators and patients. Two reviewers independently read each study to identify any patient, public and professional involvement in the research process. We also noted some aspects of outcomes. Results: Twenty-two studies included patient, public and/or professional involvement in at least one research domain: design, management or evaluation. Involvement included volunteers, older people, professionals, patients, and community representatives. All studies were driven by an organisational or biomedical agenda. Conclusions: Patient, public and professional involvement wasrarely reported in studies on health literacy interventions for older people. This could help explain why some interventions fail to improve health literacy in older people. Electroexcitation of the at low momentum transfer
We report on new p measurements at the
resonance at the low momentum transfer region. The mesonic
cloud dynamics is predicted to be dominant and rapidly changing in this
kinematic region offering a test bed for chiral effective field theory
calculations. The new data explore the low dependence of the resonant
quadrupole amplitudes while extending the measurements of the Coulomb
quadrupole amplitude to the lowest momentum transfer ever reached. The results
disagree with predictions of constituent quark models and are in reasonable
agreement with dynamical calculations that include pion cloud effects, chiral
effective field theory and lattice calculations. The reported measurements
suggest that improvement is required to the theoretical calculations and
provide valuable input that will allow their refinements
