Design and implementation of algorithms for data prioritization and dissemination in autonomous vehicular networks
openThis thesis investigates the potential improvements in traffic awareness achieved by collaboration among autonomous vehicles (AVs) through cooperative perception.
The goal is to share the information about the obstacles detected from one AV sensors to nearby intelligent vehicles. To achieve this, the study aims to make a prioritization of the data collected by defining various scoring functions. The information are evaluated based on its relevance in different contexts, with the focus on collision awareness.
The study aims to assess the effectiveness of an algorithm that achieve comprehensive awareness among all vehicles in close proximity, prioritizing collected data, targeting optimal communication with minimal resource consumption
Economic Sanctions and Article V(2)(b) of the New York Convention: A Touchy Interaction Exacerbated by the Ukraine-Russia Conflict
States have deployed an unprecedented wave of unilateral sanctions in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They have also escalated the political connotation of economic sanctions by aggressively implementing them extraterritorially. This exercise of lawfare, substituting economic sanctions for armed conflict, raises the question of whether to consider unilateral sanctions elements of public policy within the meaning of Article V(2)(b) of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. This article seeks to clarify the interplay between Article V(2)(b) and economic sanctions. Explaining the two different approaches that domestic courts implement worldwide, recent court decisions in Ukraine and Russia are analyzed to demonstrate that the once prevailing exclusion of economic sanctions from the purview of Article V(2)(b) in the name of transnational public policy is no longer tenable. A three-prong test is proposed to determine when Article V(2)(b) apply to economic sanctions, finding that public policy defense can only be successfully raised when: (1) the sanctions express a specific, ex-ante identifiable public policy; (2) the recognition and enforcement of the award touch and concern the public at large; and (3) recognizing and enforcing the award in the face of sanctions would shock the conscience of the court
Limnological Patterns in a Large Subtropical Reservoir Cascade
The study identified limnological patterns in the Paranapanema River reservoir cascade, one of the main tributaries of the high Paraná River, La Plata Basin, southeast Brazil. Samplings were carried out in eight reservoirs from a total of 37 sites. We analyzed the water transparency, depth, and vertical profiles of temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, total solids, suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, chlorophyll a, and thermotolerant coliforms. Additionally, the trophic state index for tropical/subtropical reservoirs, the water retention time and morphometric characteristics of each reservoir were calculated. Longitudinal compartmentalization is conspicuous in storage reservoirs, whereas the magnitude of temporal changes is higher in run-of-river systems. The lateral component of spatial heterogeneity was also very important for some reservoirs, determined basically by the entrance of tributary rivers. On the vertical dimension, summer thermal stratification, followed by oxygen decrease in bottom layers, in the central channel and lacustrine zones of deeper and larger reservoirs was observed. The ultraoligotrophic condition prevailed, despite signals of intensive land use for agriculture—recurrent high phosphorus values. The acquired experience provided a baseline for a permanent limnological and water quality program, which subsidizes management actions in the basin
Effects of Two Different Rhodiola rosea Extracts on Primary Human Visceral Adipocytes
Rhodiola rosea (Rro) has been reported to have various pharmacological properties, including anti-fatigue, anti-stress and anti-inflammatory activity. It is also known to improve glucose and lipid metabolism, but the effects of Rhodiola rosea on adipocyte differentiation and metabolism are not still elucidated. In this study the anti-adipogenic and lipolytic activity of two extracts of Rhodiola rosea, containing 3% salidroside (RS) or 1% salidroside and 3% rosavines (RR) on primary human visceral adipocytes was investigated. Pre-adipocytes were analyzed after 10 and 20 days of treatment during differentiation and after 7 days of treatment when they reached mature shape. The RS extract significantly induced higher apoptosis and lipolysis in comparison to control cells and to RR extract. In contrast, RR extract significantly reduced triglyceride incorporation during maturation. Differentiation of pre-adipocytes in the presence of RS and RR extracts showed a significant decrease in expression of genes involved in adipocyte function such as SLC2A4 and the adipogenic factor FGF2 and significant increase in expression of genes involved in inhibition of adipogenesis, such as GATA3, WNT3A, WNT10B. Furthermore RR extract, in contrast to RS, significantly down-regulates PPARG, the master regulator of adipogenesis and FABP4. These data support the lipolytic and anti-adipogenetic activity of two different commercial extracts of Rhodiola rosea in primary human visceral pre-adipocytes during differentiation
Effect of plant extracts on H2O2-induced inflammatory gene expression in macrophages
Background: Arctium lappa (AL), Camellia sinensis (CS), Echinacea angustifolia, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Panax ginseng (PG), and Vaccinium myrtillus (VM) are plants traditionally used in many herbal formulations for the treatment of various conditions. Although they are well known and already studied for their anti-inflammatory properties, their effects on H2O2-stimulated macrophages are a novel area of study.
Materials and methods: Cell viability was tested after treatment with increasing doses of H2O2 and/or plant extracts at different times of incubation to identify the optimal experimental conditions. The messenger (m)RNA expression of TNF\u3b1, COX2, IL1\u3b2, NF㮫1, NF㮫2, NOS2, NFE2L2, and PPAR\u3b3 was analyzed in macrophages under H2O2 stimulation. The same genes were also quantified after plant extract treatment on cells pre-stimulated with H2O2.
Results: A noncytotoxic dose (200 \u3bcM) of H2O2 induced active mRNA expression of COX2, IL1\u3b2, NFE2L2, NF㮫1, NF㮫2, NOS2, and TNF\u3b1, while PPAR\u3b3 was depressed. The expression of all genes tested was significantly (P,0.001) regulated by plant extracts after pre-stimulation with H2O2. COX2 was downregulated by AL, PG, and VM. All extracts depressed IL1\u3b2 expression, but upregulated NFE2L2. NF㮫1, NF㮫2, and TNF\u3b1 were downregulated by AL, CS, PG, and VM. NOS2 was inhibited by CS, PG, and VM. PPAR\u3b3 was decreased only after treatment with E. angustifolia and E. senticosus.
Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that the stimulation of H2O2 on RAW267.4 cells induced the transcription of proinflammatory mediators, showing that this could be an applicable system by which to activate macrophages. Plant extracts from AL, CS, PG, and VM possess in vitro anti-inflammatory activity on H2O2-stimulated macrophages by modulating key inflammation mediators. Further in vitro and in vivo investigation into molecular mechanisms modulated by herbal extracts should be undertaken to shed light on the development of novel modulating therapeutic strategies

[EN] The present work has as main objective to analyze the methodology of Participatory Video (PV) as a
tool for social participation, voice and aspirations of young people from the canton framework of the
Capability Approach, framed in Society FP7 Project 2012-2015. Understanding the "Capabilities
Approach" is the theoretical basis underlying the paradigm of human development, this approach also
to understand there are two concepts that are key: the capabilities and performances, in which
capacity is the cornerstone of this approach, skills are understood as all "real opportunities
(participation, voice and aspirations)" from which a person has to choose the plan of life that has
reason to be desired. As a method, it starts from the idea that the VP is a tool for individual, group or
community and "that can serve as a tool development for people to see to themselves in relation to
the community and raise awareness about personal needs and community ... has the potential to
achieve personal change, political, cultural and social "(White, 2003). Therefore, the dissertation try to
contribute: 1) Review of the literature of the VP from the Capabilities Approach based on three specific
concepts (participation, voice and aspirations); 2)Provide a theoretical framework in which the
synergies of Capabilities Approach with the VP are clear; 3) From the case study, empirically
operationalize / apply this contribution and see the limitations. Therefore, the theoretical elements that
has been chosen to develop a theoretical framework in which the positioning paradigm, approach and
methodology, through qualitative research techniques and procedures and the difficulties that arise.
Coming up next, they are reviewed the different definitions of VP and certain relationships between the
capabilities of participation, voice, aspirations and the tool from VP with which prepares an integrated
theoretical framework between Participatory Video and the Capability Approach to achieve the
objectives of this research are raised and substantiate the questions. Finally, the case study is
presented and analysis of the results found in relation to the theoretical framework is shown, and it is
made a discussion based on empirical evidence on which it is allowed to glimpse some reflections and
discussions on these results. Consequently, the thesis aspires to demonstrate a theoretical framework
in common between the Capabilities Approach and technique of VP also the strategies of using
participatory video as a tool to channel the aspirations, voices and social participation of young people
in Quart. By last, it presents some conclusions which achieve the objectives of the research will be
