A prospective multicenter portuguese study

Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. This prospective multicentric study aiming to determine the incidence of complications (malignant transformation, torsion or rupture) during conservative management of adnexal masses was performed in two Portuguese tertiary referral hospitals. It included ≥18-year-old, non-pregnant patients with asymptomatic adnexal masses (associated IOTA ADNEX risk of malignancy < 10%) sonographically diagnosed between January 2016 and December 2020. Conservative patient management consisted of serial clinical and ultrasound assessment up to 60 months of follow-up, spontaneous resolution of the formation or surgical excision (median follow-up: 17.8; range 9–48 months). From the 573 masses monitored (328 premenopausal and 245 postmenopausal adnexal masses), no complications were observed in 99.5%. The annual lesion growth rates and increases in morphological complexity were similar in the premenopausal and postmenopausal patients. Spontaneous resolu-tion, evidenced in 16.4% of the patients, was more common in the premenopausal group (p < 0.05). Surgical intervention was performed in 18.4% of the cases; one borderline and one invasive FIGO IA stage cancer were diagnosed. There was an isolated case of ovary torsion (0.17%). These data support conservative management as a safe option for sonographically benign, stable and asymp-tomatic adnexal masses before and after menopause and highlight the need for expedite treatment of symptomatic or increased-morphological-complexity lesions.publishersversionpublishe
The micromechanics of graphene oxide and molybdenum disulfide in thermoplastic nanocomposites and the impact to the polymer-filler interphase
peer reviewedThe addition of two-dimensional nanomaterials to a polymer matrix is a widely known manner to mechanically reinforce the material. The stress-transfer in the polymeric matrices, however, depends on an array of filler and matrix properties as well as on their interface. In this work, we discuss the effects of the distinct levels of interaction of graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide and molybdenum disulfide with poly(vinyl butyral) in the reinforcement of the polymer. For that, we employed the micromechanical analysis model originally developed by Young et al., which describes the reinforcement behavior of graphene nanoplatelets in a wide range of polymer matrices. Then, using an innovative approach derived from such analysis, we propose novel methods to mathematically evaluate the effects of the filler content upon the polymer/filler interface, and for the determination of the mechanical percolation threshold
COPD has a variable natural history and not all individuals follow the same route. However, it is usually a progressive disease, especially in patients whose exposure to noxious agents is ongoing. There may improve lung function, even when there is airflow limitation, if harmful agent exposures stop, including tobacco smoke. However, after the COPD and its comorbidities are establish the disease can´t be cured. At this point the treatment should be permanent. The treatment of COPD can lead to a better quality of life; reduce symptoms, exacerbations and possibly mortality
valorização do património cemiterial.
A dissertação encontra-se delineada por três capítulos. O primeiro capítulo
desenvolve a contextualização do tema.
This research project under the topic “A cidade dos mortos – O caso do cemitério
de Canelas” (The city of the dead – The case of the cemetery of Canelas), examines the
cemetery architecture while highlighting the importance of the cemetery in local
communities. This multifaceted architecture has undergone changes over time. In
general, every cemetery carries a significant historical past for current and future society,
as this displays the culture of each people and each civilization. That is why we always
need to take into account the preservation of the traditional and cultural values of the
populations that make use of these sites, as well as all of their architectural constructions.
Spaces that are increasingly devoid of their traditional values seek new relations involving
adaptation to contemporary society. The interest of this relation lies in facing up to a new
problem area, to succeed in readapting, safeguarding and recovering the cemeteryrelated
heritage.
This thesis comprises three chapters. The first chapter deals with contextualizing the
topic. The second chapter addresses the topic’s reference spaces, as broken down into
two aspects: The cemetery from a monument-related point of view and the cemetery
from the standpoint of landscaping. Finally, the third chapter comprises a case study of
the cemetery in Canelas, as structured into five subchapters: The site and its
implementation, characterization and type analysis, shape and distribution, pathological
analysis, and finally a letter of intent.Orientação: Manuel Joaquim S. Moren
