SUPPLY RESPONSE TO RISK: THE CASE OF U.S. PINTO BEANS

A standard model of behavior under uncertainty is used to suggest price risk variables for use in a positive supply study. The suggested variables are intuitively appealing and empirically tested on Pinto bean data. Linearity is assumed and O.L.S. used. The empirical results show that the risk variables greatly improve the statistical fit of the supply equation, are quantitatively important and that a substantial bias occurs if they are neglected. Struktur dan Perkembangan Motif Pinto Aceh

Pinto aceh motif is one of crafts that has existed as the ornament and rapidly evolves in Aceh. Pinto aceh motif is formed of the flora and fauna elements sourced from the wealth of Aceh sea and the geometrical motif element. Overall, the pattern of pinto aceh motif is symmetrical. The creation of pinto aceh motif evolves by experiencing the stylization of basic form into creation one. Its usage is not only on brooch and pendant but also on various textile media, wood, concrete, and metal. This article aims at discussing the structure and development of pinto aceh motif until becoming the ornaments. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The data collection was conducted through observation, interview, and photo documentation to analyze the details of the structure and development of pinto aceh motif. The structure of pinto aceh motif was analyzed by using the theory of form and structure; while its development was analyzed by using the theory of creativity. The research results show that pinto aceh motif is made in the symmetrical pattern, its stuffing is sourced from the flora and fauna, its basic frame is inspired from pinto khop building, and its development has been widely applied on various crafts. Penciptaan motif pinto aceh berkembang mengalami stilisasi dari bentuk dasar menjadi kreasi. Penggunaannya tidak hanya pada bros dan liontin saja, namun juga pada berbagai media tekstil, kayu, beton, dan logam. Artikel ini bertujuan membahas struktur dan perkembangan motif pinto aceh hingga menjadi ornamen. Kajian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif bersifat deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakuan melalui pengamatan, wawancara, dan dokumentasi foto untuk menelaah detail struktur dan perkembangan motif pinto aceh. Struktur motif pinto aceh dianalisis dengan teori bentuk dan struktur, sedangkan perkembangannya dianalisis dengan teori kreativitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, motif pinto aceh dibuat dalam pola simetris, isiannya bersumber dari flora dan fauna, kerangka dasar terispirasi dari bangunan pinto khop, dan perkembangan motif pinto aceh telah banyak diterapkan pada berbagai hasil kerajinan, sehingga strukturnya telah banyak dikreasikan

Moral Equality and Natural Inferiority

This essay is a commentary upon "Race and Kant" by Thomas Hill, Jr and Bernard Boxill. They argue that although Kant in his anthropological writings took blacks to be inferior, his moral theory requires that they be shown the proper moral respect since blacks are persons nonetheless. I argue that this argument is sound, because the conception of inferiority that Kant attributed to blacks does not permit showing them the proper moral respect. Imagine a defective Mercedes Benz and a Ford Pinto. These two cars are not inferior in the same sort of way. For Kant, I argue, the inferiority of blacks is more akin to that of a Ford Pinto; for he undoubtedly took blacks to be perpetual children. Chilren are persons, too; however, no one has ever supposed that moral theory applies to children in the full way that it applies to adults

A Preliminary Report...The Acceptability of Cull Pinto Beans in Rations for Growing Pigs

The 1974 crop year was an unusual one from several standpoints. One of the undesirable attributes of the crop year was the early frost which seriously damaged several crops. Pinto beans were especially hard hit, with the extent of the loss varying from minimal to total loss. Attempts to utilize cull pinto beans as a portion of livestock feeds were hindered by a lack of information relative to the feeding value of cull pinto beans. The evaluation reported in this article represents an attempt to provide answers concerning the feeding value of cull pinto beans for non-ruminants. Cull pinto beans were utilized in two experiments with growing swine and wo growth and digestibility experiments with rats. These beans were treated various ways to try to improve their digestibility for swine and rats. None worked. Even 10% proved too much for swine. It was not recommended at this time to incorporate culled pinto beans into pig diets

Pertumbuhan Kacang Pinto (Arachis Pintoi) Yang Diberi Pupuk Kandang Sapi Dan Mikoriza

Penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan kacang pinto (Arachis pintoi) yang diberi pupukkandang sapi dan mikoriza serta kombinasinya, dan mendapatkan taraf/level pupuk yang dapat meningkatkanpertumbuhan kacang pinto. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dua faktor. Faktorpertama adalah dosis pupuk kandang sapi yaitu tanpa (S0), 10 ton/ha, (S1), 20 ton/ha (S2) dan 30 ton/ha (S3).Faktor kedua adalah dosis mikoriza yaitu tanpa (M0), 10 g/pot, (M1), 20 g/pot (M2) dan 30 g/pot (M3), dengantiga ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terjadi interaksi antara pupuk kandang sapi dan mikoriza.Perlakuan pupuk kandang sapi mampu meningkatkan jumlah cabang, jumlah daun, diameter batang, jumlahbunga, jumlah bintil akar, dan luas daun per pot tanaman kacang pinto dibandingkan dengan kontrol, dan leveloptimal pada dosis 20 ton/ha (S2) terjadi pada peubah diameter batang. Perlakuan mikoriza mampu meningkatkanjumlah daun kacang pinto dengan level optimal pada dosis 20 g/pot (M2). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapatdisimpulkan bahwa tidak terjadi interaksi antara pupuk kandang sapi dan mikoriza. Perlakuan pupuk kandang sapidan mikoriza mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan kacang pinto. Kata kunci: pupuk kandang sapi, pupuk hayati mikoriza, kacang pinto (Arachis pintoi
