Successful Treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus with Subcutaneous Immunoglobulin

The therapeutic efficacy of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients is well established. However, side effects might limit its use and lead to the consideration of therapeutic alternatives, such as the subcutaneous formulation of immunoglobulin, which has been used in some patients with other autoimmune diseases. We report a case of SLE refractory to classical therapies. High-dose intravenous immunoglobulin was effective, but gave rise to significant side effects. The patient was successfully treated with subcutaneous human immunoglobulin, achieving and maintaining clinical and laboratory remission. A lower immunoglobulin dose was needed and no side effects were observed, compared to the intravenous administration. Subcutaneous immunoglobulin could be a better-tolerated and cost-saving therapeutic option for select SLE patients.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Herein, we integrated information about the damage and losses caused by these pathogens in horticulture. Resistant genotypes seem to be the best alternative and, due to wide horticulture aspect, the focus is especially for life sustaining horticultural, such as banana, cassava, potato, and sugar beet. Synthetic approaches to a challenging and unusual structure—an amino-pyrrolidine guanine core

This unusual and promising structure was attained through the oxidative decarboxylation of amino acids using the pair of reagents, silver(I)/peroxydisulfate (Ag(I)/S2O82−) followed by intermolecular (in the case of L-proline derivative) and intramolecular trapping (in the case of acyl L-arginine) by N-nucleophiles. The L-proline approach has a broader scope for the synthesis of 2-aminopyrrolidine-1-carboxamidine derivatives, whereas the intramolecular cyclization afforded by the L-acylarginines, when applied, results in higher yields. The former allowed the first synthesis of cernumidine, a natural alkaloid isolated in 2011 from Solanum cernuum Vell, as its racemic form.publishersversionpublishe

Determination of profile of chlorophyll compounds in microalgae species / Determinação do perfil de compostos de clorofila em espécies de microalgas

Dentre as especialidades químicas subexploradas em microalgas, o perfil das clorofilas em diferentes espécies (Chlorella vulgaris e Aphanothece microscopica Nägeli) foi caracterizado em detalhes como o objetivo principal deste estudo. A composição das clorofilas e derivados foi determinada por HPLC-PDA-MS (APCI +). Os padrões de fragmentação característicos permitiram identificar oito compostos de clorofila diferentes. Compostos de relevância como espécies de clorofila a, clorofila b, moléculas derivadas de reações de feofitinização, epimerização e hidroxilação estiveram presentes nas espécies de microalgas. Valores substanciais de 10.734,19 e 9.121,89 ?g.g-1 de peso seco foram obtidos para C. vulgaris e A. microscopica Nägeli, respectivamente. Assim, a abordagem deste estudo contribui de forma significativa para bancos de dados de composição em constituintes bioativos das espécies avaliadas. Além disso, fornecem informações que elevam a importância desses microrganismos como alternativa para obtenção de componentes de alimentos, enfatizando-os como fontes para atender as necessidades emergentes do mercado de compostos naturais. 

Chaos in the square billiard with a modified reflection law

The purpose of this paper is to study the dynamics of a square billiard with a non-standard reflection law such that the angle of reflection of the particle is a linear contraction of the angle of incidence. We present numerical and analytical arguments that the nonwandering set of this billiard decomposes into three invariant sets, a parabolic attractor, a chaotic attractor and a set consisting of several horseshoes. This scenario implies the positivity of the topological entropy of the billiard, a property that is in sharp contrast with the integrability of the square billiard with the standard reflection law.Comment: 17 figure
