How to promote vaccinations: a pilot study in the North-West of Italy
Background: vaccines are one of the greatest medical discoveries. In various countries, pharmacists are authorised to administer vaccines directly in pharmacies; thus, leading to an increase in the immunisation rate and a notable gain in consensus amongst the population. The main objective was to evaluate the opinion of pharmacy customers regarding the proposal to authorise pharmacies to administer vaccines. Results: 85% of the respondents were in favour of the introduction of a vaccinating pharmacist. The data show more positive attitudes to the introduction of this service amongst subjects with an elderly dependant relative (PR = 1,10; p = 0.025). Furthermore, it can be noticed a higher probability of positive attitudes to the establishment of the vaccinating pharmacist amongst those with positive attitudes to vaccines (PR = 1,15; p = 0.039). Moreover, the pharmacist is seen as a reference on the subject of vaccines by only 8% of interviewees. Discussion: The data highlight the particularly positive feedback regarding the subject of pharmacists being authorised to administer vaccines. This service may, however, encounter obstacles such as economic problems and opposition from other health professionals. Materials and methods: Data were gathered through a face-to-face interview by means of questionnaires in eight pharmacies in the north-west of Piedmont (Italy). Descriptive statistics were performed. The comparison between the proportions and average values was performed by χ2 and t-test. The indicator used for the associations was the Prevalence Ratio (PR). Cannabis for Medical Use: Analysis of Recent Clinical Trials in View of Current Legislation
Cannabis has long been regarded as a recreational substance in the Western world. The recent marketing authorization of some medicinal products of industrial origin and the introduction onto the market of inflorescences for medical use mean that medical doctors can now prescribe Cannabis-based medicines in those countries which allow it. Nevertheless, there is still considerable controversy on this topic in the scientific community. In particular, this controversy concerns: the plant species to be used; the pathologies that can be treated and consequently the efficacy and safety of use; the routes of administration; the methods of preparation; the type and dosage of cannabinoids to be used; and, the active molecules of interest. As such, although medical Cannabis has been historically used, the results of currently completed and internationally published studies are inconclusive and often discordant. In light of these considerations, the aim of this work is to analyse the current legislation in countries that allow the use of medical Cannabis, in relation to the impact that this legislation has had on clinical trials. First of all, a literature search has been performed (PubMed and SciFinder) on clinical trials which involved the administration of Cannabis for medical use over the last 3 years. Of the numerous studies extrapolated from the literature, only about 43 reported data on clinical trials on medical Cannabis, with these mainly being performed in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Once the reference countries were identified, an evaluation of the legislation in relation to Cannabis for medical use in each was carried out via the consultation of the pertinent scientific literature, but also of official government documentation and that of local regulatory authorities. This analysis provided us with an overview of the different legislation in these countries and, consequently, allowed us to analyse, with greater awareness, the results of the clinical trials published in the last 3 years in order to obtain general interest indications in the prosecution of scientific research in this area
The Mixing Ratio and Filling-Amount Affect the Tissue Browning and Antioxidant Properties of Fresh-Cut Baby Leaf Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and Rocket (Eruca sativa Mill.) Grown in Floating Growing Systems
Different types of baby leaf vegetables (BLV) are often mixed and packaged as salad mixes. This work has evaluated the effects of BLV mixing ratios (100% lettuce ‘Lollo Bionda’, 100 LB; 75% lettuce + 25% rocket, 75 LB; 50% lettuce + 50% rocket, 50 LB) and the weight filling amount (125 g filling amount, 125F; 250 g, 250F) on the antioxidant properties and browning potential (BP) of lettuce and rocket baby leaves during storage for 9 days at 4 °C in the dark. The samples were packaged in thermos-sealed bags previously prepared using polypropylene film. The results showed that the 50 LB mix had preserved high amounts of chlorophylls and internal nutrients on d9, regardless of the filling amount. No visible browning symptoms were detected in the 50 LB samples. The 50 LB × 125F mix was found to be the most efficient strategy to maintain the antioxidant property of BLV. Thus, the optimisation of the mixing ratio and its combination with an appropriate filling amount could represent an effective postharvest practice
The Luminous Blue Variable RMC127 as seen with ALMA and ATCA
We present ALMA and ATCA observations of the luminous blue variable \rmc. The
radio maps show for the first time the core of the nebula and evidence that the
nebula is strongly asymmetric with a Z-pattern shape. Hints of this morphology
are also visible in the archival \emph{HST} image, which overall
resembles the radio emission. The emission mechanism in the outer nebula is
optically thin free-free in the radio. At high frequencies, a component of
point-source emission appears at the position of the star, up to the ALMA
frequencies. The rising flux density distribution () of this object suggests thermal emission from the ionized
stellar wind and indicates a departure from spherical symmetry with
. We examine different scenarios to explain this excess
of thermal emission from the wind and show that this can arise from a bipolar
outflow, supporting the suggestion by other authors that the stellar wind of
\rmc is aspherical. We fit the data with two collimated ionized wind models and
we find that the mass-loss rate can be a factor of two or more smaller than in
the spherical case. We also fit the photometry obtained by IR space telescopes
and deduce that the mid- to far-IR emission must arise from extended, cool
() dust within the outer ionized nebula. Finally we discuss two
possible scenarios for the nebular morphology: the canonical single star
expanding shell geometry, and a precessing jet model assuming presence of a

Optical photometry and spectroscopy of the 1987A-like supernova 2009mw
We present optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of the
1987A-like supernova (SN) 2009mw. Our and photometry covers
167 days of evolution, including the rise to the light curve maximum, and ends
just after the beginning of the linear tail phase. We compare the observational
properties of SN 2009mw with those of other SNe belonging to the same subgroup,
and find that it shows similarities to several objects. The physical parameters
of the progenitor and the SN are estimated via hydrodynamical modelling,
yielding an explosion energy of foe, a pre-SN mass of , a progenitor radius as and a Ni mass
as . These values indicate that the progenitor of SN
2009mw was a blue supergiant star, similar to the progenitor of SN 1987A. We
examine the host environment of SN 2009mw and find that it emerged from a

The VOICE Survey : VST Optical Imaging of the CDFS and ES1 Fields
Indexación: Scopus.We present the VST Optical Imaging of the CDFS and ES1 Fields (VOICE) Survey, a VST INAF Guaranteed Time program designed to provide optical coverage of two 4 deg2 cosmic windows in the Southern hemisphere. VOICE provides the first, multi-band deep optical imaging of these sky regions, thus complementing and enhancing the rich legacy of longer-wavelength surveys with VISTA, Spitzer, Herschel and ATCA available in these areas and paving the way for upcoming observations with facilities such as the LSST, MeerKAT and the SKA. VOICE exploits VST's OmegaCAM optical imaging capabilities and completes the reduction of WFI data available within the ES1 fields as part of the ESO-Spitzer Imaging Extragalactic Survey (ESIS) program providing ugri and uBVR coverage of 4 and 4 deg2 areas within the CDFS and ES1 field respectively. We present the survey's science rationale and observing strategy, the data reduction and multi-wavelength data fusion pipeline.
