Integrated News Literacy Concepts and Skills in Teaching Mobile Journalism

    Get PDF
Along with the rapid development of technology infrastructure, Vietnam is witnessing a powerful transformation in media activities. One of the significant changes is the advent of a new media form named mobile journalism. Collecting news from various sources is the most difficult task for journalists writing for the emerging mobile platform. Most of the news will be easily found on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Zalo, etc. On the one hand, journalists can take advantage of the huge volume of information which is multidimensional and has consistent, timely coverage. However, these sources of news, that often lack transparency, clarity, or act as unnamed sources entirely, may be used to serve self-interested ends. Due to the lack of verification and news literacy skills, there have been many spectacular cases in which mobile journalists in Vietnam were tricked by false information from social media. It is obvious that in this age of information overload, not only the audiences but also the journalists are in a battle to decide the smartest way to ensure the timely and accurate transfer of news on mobile platforms. Above all, critical thinking skills and the ability to evaluate the reliability of information are the key to journalists’ success in the context of “mobilizing”. In this context, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication designed the mobile journalism course for thirdyear students. In this subject, lecturers have integrated knowledge in news literacy with teaching skills and knowledge based on the tools: I’MVA/IN and the information evaluation for Mobile News; Making Mobile News; Bias and Fairness on Mobile News; Images and Video for Mobile News in order to equip future Mojos with the ability to determine the reliability of information and sources in the process of news investigation. This allows them to verify the accuracy of information before it is consumed by readers, which will strengthen the reliability and credibility of mobile media. After a period of teaching and through conducting surveys from students, we have come to realize that the efficiency of I’MVA/IN is considerable in practice and has been successfully applied by students in researching and writing news reports. Moreover, there have been some vital changes since the time students first applied I’MVA/IN; students, in their roles as readers and journalists, are now more proactive in clarifying the accuracy of information on social media as well as other news sources. During the course, we realized that interactive learning methods and techniques would help to increase our students’ engagement and make students better understand the importance of news literacy. For example, the class is definitely much more interesting when role-play games, study cases, or personal sharing activities related to news literacy are applied

In recent years, the signiﱂcant increase in number of connections to photo- voltaic installations in the public networks has caused greater risks. Meth- ods involving in detecting situations such as islanding, damage on the trans- port network, and normal situations without special event arise have been exploited, however, each method has its disavantages. In this work, by using the statistical and signal processing tools, we can consider and appre- ciate the change of data of the simulated model. Then we apply the CART algorithm to classify the above phenomena

    Get PDF
This research investigates the perspectives of the novice lecturers in the Faculty of English Language Teacher Education (FELTE) regarding Teaching Practicum’s impacts on their classroom management skills. Using survey research, data was gathered through questionnaires distributed among the whole population of 29 participants, followed by semi-structured interviews to gain a deeper insight into participants’ experience. The study’s results showed that novice lecturers generally made considerable progress in classroom management skills, especially in attention-drawing and response encouragement, creation of a motivating environment as well as physical and emotional interactions with students. On the other hand, it was discovered that inadequate duration and inappropriate timing generally impeded novice lecturers’ gains during their Teaching Practicum. However, some challenges related to supervisor and school choice turned out to be significant factors from which participants could derive considerable benefits, which is opposed to previous research. At the end of the study, some recommendations were suggested for future research on this topic

BACKGROUND: Our study was conducted to determine the prevalence of drug-related problems (DRPs) in outpatient prescriptions, the impact of DRPs on treatment efficacy, safety, and cost, and the determinants of DRPs in prescribing for pediatric outpatients in Vietnam. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on pediatric outpatients at a pediatric hospital in Can Tho, Vietnam. DRPs were classified according to the Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe classification (PCNE) of 2020. The study determined prevalence of DRPs and their impacts on efficacy, safety, and cost. Multivariate regression was used to identify the determinants of DRPs. RESULTS: The study included 4339 patients (mean age 4.3, 55.8% male), with a total of 3994 DRPs, averaging 0.92 DRP/prescription. The proportion of prescriptions with at least one DRP was 65.7%. DRPs included inappropriate drug selection (35.6%), wrong time of dosing relative to meals (35.6%), inappropriate dosage form (9.3%), inappropriate indication (7.1%), and drug-drug interactions (0.3%). The consensus of experts was average when evaluating each aspect of efficiency reduction, safety reduction, and treatment cost increase, with Fleiss' coefficients of 0.558, 0.511, and 0.541, respectively (p < 0.001). Regarding prescriptions, 50.1% were assessed as reducing safety. The figures for increased costs and decreased treatment effectiveness were 29.0% and 23.9%, respectively. Patients who were ≤2 years old were more likely to have DRPs than patients aged 2 to 6 years old (OR = 0.696; 95% CI = 0.599-0.809) and patients aged over 6 years old (OR = 0.801; 95% CI = 0.672-0.955). Patients who had respiratory system disease were more likely to have DRPs than patients suffering from other diseases (OR = 0.715; 95% CI = 0.607-0.843). Patients with comorbidities were less likely to have DRPs than patients with no comorbidities (OR = 1.421; 95% CI = 1.219-1.655). Patients prescribed ≥5 drugs were more likely to have DRPs than patients who took fewer drugs (OR = 3.677; 95% CI = 2.907-4.650). CONCLUSION: The proportion of prescriptions in at least one DRP was quite high. Further studies should evaluate clinical significance and appropriate interventions, such as providing drug information and consulting doctors about DRPs

    Get PDF
This thesis study wants to implement a model test for better understandings of brand equity and consumer responses toward Cho Gao Dragon Fruit brand. With the rapid growth of agriculture, including domestic consumption and export of the dragon fruits, it is crucial to differentiate the Cho Gao Dragon Fruits to other competitors in both domestic and foreign markets. Using Structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the data of 274 questionnaires to investigate the effects of brand equity and its dimensions on consumer responses. The results show that brand equity dimensions such as brand awareness, brand association, perceived quality are interrelated and those dimensions have a direct and significant effect on brand equity, except brand awareness. The results support the assumption that brand equity has a positive relationship with consumer responses. The findings shed light on the current issues of the market for dragon fruits, which enables us to provide some suggestions for the Government to facilitate farmers and traders in building brand names, marketers for doing marketing activities, and students to know about brand equity of agricultural product such as dragon fruits

Background: Inappropriate antibiotic use among outpatients is recognized as the primary driver of antibiotic resistance. A proper understanding of appropriate antibiotic usage and associated factors helps to determine and limit inappropriateness. We aimed to identify the rate of appropriate use of antibiotics and identify factors associated with the inappropriate prescriptions. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study in outpatient antibiotic use at a hospital in Can Tho City, Vietnam, from August 1, 2019, to January 31, 2020. Data were extracted from all outpatient prescriptions at the Medical Examination Department and analyzed by SPSS 18 and Chi-squared tests, with 95% confidence intervals. The rationale for antibiotic use was evaluated through antibiotic selection, dose, dosing frequency, dosing time, interactions between antibiotics and other drugs, and general appropriate usage. Results: A total of 420 prescriptions were 51.7% for females, 61.7% with health insurance, and 44.0% for patients with one comorbid condition. The general appropriate antibiotic usage rate was 86.7%. Prescriptions showed that 11.0% and 9.5% had a higher dosing frequency and dose than recommended, respectively; 10.2% had an inappropriate dosing time; 3.1% had drug interactions; and only 1.7% had been prescribed inappropriate antibiotics. The risk of inappropriate antibiotic use increased in patients with comorbidities and antibiotic treatment lasting >7 days (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The study indicated a need for more consideration when prescribing antibiotics to patients with comorbidities or using more than 7 days of treatment

This study aimed to describe the distribution and relative abundance of the phytoplankton obtained during the two seasons (rainy and dry seasons) from the Red river system. The water and phytoplankton samples were monthly collected during the year 2012 at four sampling stations along the Red River (Yen Bai, Vu Quang Hoa Binh, and Ha Noi) . Environmental variables (e.g. temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, suspended solids, conductivity, TDS, NO3-N, NH4-N, PO4-P, Total Phosphorus; and DOC) and phytoplankton (e.g. cell density and relative abundant species) were analyzed. Six phytoplankton classes were identified with the Bacillariophyceae dominating in the phytoplankton community. A distinct seasonal variation in phytoplankton structure was observed with high cells density in dry season and low values in rainy season. PCA (Principal Component Analysis) showed that suspended solid factor that governed the temporal and spatial distribution of phytoplankton structure in the Red River system.Nghiên cứu này trình bày sự phân bố và độ phong phú tương đối của quần xã thực vật nổi vào mùa mưa và mùa khô trong hệ thống sông Hồng.
