Writing skill is an important part of communication, which helps people express ideas, experiences, and feeling exactly. Good writing skill allows them to communicate their message with clarity and ease to a far larger audience than through face-to-face or telephone conversations. However, students often face some difficulties when writing. This survey research presents the process of the study of “Difficulties in writing essays of English majored sophomores at Tay Do University”. It was conducted to find out some difficulties in learning writing of 53 sophomores from 12A and 12B classes at Tay Do University. The questionnaire, interview questions, and essay samples were instruments of this research. The results showed that sophomores had many difficulties in writing essays such as vocabulary, grammar structures, idea arrangement, background knowledge, and others. Basing on the research results, students could recognize their difficulties and find ways to overcome them. Article visualizations

Solutions of organizing environmental auditing in the State Audit Office of Vietnam

Nowadays, sustainable development associated with environmental protection has become the hot global concern. In many countries around the world, Supreme Audit Institutions should play an important role in this area, ensuring that natural resources are managed, exploited and used effectively. Environmental auditing has now become a major activity at many SAIs. In Vietnam, environmental auditing is still a new issue in both theory and practice. Recognizing the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development, the SAV considers environmental auditing one of the priority activities in the years to come. Therefore, environmental auditing should be conducted more early, more comprehensively and more fully in the manner of auditing objectives, contents, with more appropriate, effective methods and ways of carrying out audits in Vietnam. It is necessary to study the theory on environmental auditing, analyse and evaluate at the same time the practice of environmental auditing in Vietnam, review generally the situation of environmental auditing conducted in the world, which found shortcomings and limitations of carrying out environmental auditing in the SAV and as a result, draw lessons and propose solutions to implement environmental auditing of the SAV. The thesis introduces a number of researches by Indian and Vietnamese scientists, INTOSAI experts and a number of standard, guidelines in specific fields of environmental auditing that are published and generally accepted by the SAIs in the regional and international community. It is very important that the thesis studies about the system of legal documents, audit reports related to or published by the SAV in Vietnamese language like the State Audit Law, the State Audit Development Strategy to 2020, annual audit reports. An interview with specialized auditor and a secondary servey of the WGEA are also chosen the data for the research. Based on an analysis of the general theories of organizational structure, roles and functions of the SAV, and an evaluation and synthesis of the results of environmental auditing activities of some SAIs in the region and in the world, together with a summary and research regarding the current status of the organizational model, the operational mechanism of the SAV in general and environmental auditing in particular, the thesis shows SAV’s development strategy in the future and suggests some solutions and recommendations to efficiently organize environmental auditing in the SAV. The Government, the State Audit Office and the audited entities are subject to have improvement for organizing environmental auditing in the SAV

US financial crisis impact on Asian economies : does “decoupling” theory hold : the case of Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam

    Get PDF
Until recently, many investors believed in decoupling theory which says that emerging countries can be resilient from the weakening of US economy and keep stable growths. In 2007, international investors observed a rise on stock markets of some emerging countries when stock price on developed markets in the US or the UK dropped dramatically. Meanwhile, they also observed prosperous economic growth in these emerging markets. This trend supported decoupling theory’s proponents who argue that when emerging stock markets move against a slump on developed markets as US or UK, the economy of these countries will also grow healthily. Since this argument is on discussion, the paper plans to find out a plausible answer for the question: if decoupling theory holds for stock market of emerging countries, will it also hold for their economies. The paper made data research on US market in relation with three other export-dependent Asian markets – Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and will discuss two problems: (1) how is co-movement of Asian and the US stock markets from 2007 to 2009, and (2) how the economy of these markets responds in the according year. The paper expects to find that stock markets in emerging Asian countries are decoupled from US stock market and their economies also move independently. Data showed that in 2007, there was decoupling effect between Singapore, Thailand and the US. However, from October 2008 until March 2009, stock markets of these countries tracked the movement of US market quite closely. At the same time, their macro economic indicators were on downward trend. In these Southeast Asian countries, decoupling theory just holds for a short period when world economy is in good condition and we could not find certain sign whether it will hold again in the future

Check the checks: A comparison of fact-checking practices between newspapers and independent organizations in the United States

Master of ScienceDepartment of Journalism and Mass CommunicationsRaluca CozmaBy conducting content analyses of 440 fact checks (N = 440), the study examined the fact-checking practices of three leading national newspapers (i.e., The New York Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today) and three independent fact-checking organizations (i.e., FactCheck.org, PolitiFact, and Snopes.com) in the United States during the 2020 presidential debates and town halls. The results found differences in how two types of organizations fact-check in terms of candidates, ratings, used sources, and topics. H1 and H2 were supported and partially supported, respectively, suggesting that three news organizations fact-checked Trump’s statements more than Biden’s, compared to three independent organizations. Fact-checking practices implications were further discussed in the context of polarization and truth decay

Consistency of control performance in 3d overhead cranes under payload mass uncertainty

    Get PDF
The paper addresses the problem of effectively and robustly controlling a 3D overhead crane under the payload mass uncertainty, where the control performance is shown to be consistent. It is proposed to employ the sliding mode control technique to design the closed-loop controller due to its robustness, regardless of the uncertainties and nonlinearities of the under-actuated crane system. The radial basis function neural network has been exploited to construct an adaptive mechanism for estimating the unknown dynamics. More importantly, the adaptation methods have been derived from the Lyapunov theory to not only guarantee stability of the closed-loop control system, but also approximate the unknown and uncertain payload mass and weight matrix, which maintains the consistency of the control performance, although the cargo mass can be varied. Furthermore, the results obtained by implementing the proposed algorithm in the simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed approach and the consistency of the control performance, although the payload mass is uncertain. © 2020 by the authors. The research aims to examine the factors that significantly influenced consumer behavior to purchase vegan cosmetics in Vietnam, including Reference Group, Consumer Perception, Salesperson Attitude, Product Quality, Price, Place, Promotion, and Brand. Data was collected through self-administered close-ended questionnaire from a sample of 480 consumers in Vietnam. For analysis purpose, SPSS 22 were used to confirm the validity concerns and determine the proposed relationship among selected variables. The output reveals that product quality is the strongest influencers of consumer behaviour to purchase vegan cosmetics, followed by Reference Group, Salesman Attitude, Place, Price, Promotion, Brand and Consumer Perception. This study provides a ‘snapshot’ to the government and cosmetics businesses about the determinants of consumer behaviour to purchase vegan cosmetics in Vietnam. Corporate governance and firm performance: Evidence from Vietnamese listed companies

    Get PDF
The research aims to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between corporate governance and firm performance in Vietnam – a developing economy in Asia. It focuses on the corporate governance of Vietnamese listed companies with a data-set of the five-year period from 2011 to 2015. Vietnamese listed companies are governed and controlled by two boards, Board of Directors and Supervisory Board. The research investigates the impacts of directors’ and supervisors’ characteristics and ownership structure on firm performance. The outcomes reveal that most governance mechanisms employed by Vietnamese listed companies were not effective and had no effect on the companies’ performance, except for managerial ownership and Supervisory Board size. Specifically, management ownership and firm performance were negatively correlated. Additional analyses show a positive relationship between the number of supervisors and firm performance, which was measured by market-based measurement
