ASIAN APRICOT APHID, MYZUS MUMECOLA (MATSUMURA, 1917) (HEMIPTERA: APHIDIDAE), FOUND IN SERBIA
Asian apricot aphid, Myzus mumecola (Matsumura, 1917) (Hemiptera: Aphididae, Aphidinae) has been found during spring of 2021 in many localities in Serbia (Ljig, Smederevo, Velika Plana, Belgrade and Å id) on cultivated apricot. The species is of Asian origin, a few years ago it was found in Italy and in Hungary. Research of the species indicates that it is rapidly widening its distribution in Europe. Damages made to apricot trees by feeding on leaves at young branches and making red galls are significant. Presence, damage and biology of M. mumecola needs to be studied in the future, especially its secondary hosts which are not enough known
FIRST RECORD OF DREPANOSIPHONIELLA FUGANS REMAUDIŠRE & LECLANT (HEMIPTERA: APHIDIDAE: DREPANOSIPHINAE) ON THE BALKAN PENINSULA
Apterous viviparous females, an alate female, males, and oviparous females of Drepanosiphoniella fugans RemaudiŃre & Leclant, 1972 (Hemiptera: Aphididae: Drepanosiphinae) were found in eastern Serbia (Bor, ZajeÄar, Stara Planina) in 2022. Drepanosiphoniella is a new genus for Serbia and the Balkan Peninsula. D. fugans is a holocyclic and monoecious species on Acer monspessulanum L. Its main morphological and biological characteristics and distribution are given. A photograph of the apterous viviparous female, line drawings, and slide photographs of the apterous viviparous female, alate viviparous female, oviparous female, and male are also included
PERIPHYLLUS CALIFORNIENSIS (SHINJI, 1917) AND TINOCALLIS SALTANS (NEVSKY, 1929) (HEMIPTERA: APHIDIDAE), TWO ALIEN APHID SPECIES NEW TO THE FAUNA OF SERBIA
This paper presents two alien species of aphids new to the fauna of Serbia with details on their morphology and biology, with original photographs. Periphyllus californiensis (Shinji, 1917) is an invasive species that belongs to the subfamily Chaitophorinae and was found for the first time in 2021 on Acer palmatum Thunb. Tinocallis saltans (Nevsky, 1929) belongs to the subfamily Calaphidinae and was found on Ulmus pumila L. in 2020 and 2021. Both species were registered in Belgrade. There is now a total of 393 registered species of aphids in Serbia
Biljne vaŔi (Aphididae, Hemiptera) na kukuruzu
On maize in Serbia many aphid species could be found, but only very rarly they can cause some damages. In this article 6 species have been presented, one developing on root of maize (Tetraneura ulmi) and others on upper parts of plants (Metopolophium dirhodum, Rhopalosiphum maidis, Rhopalosiphum padi, Sipha maydis and Sitobion avenae). Basic morphological data with symptoms, host plants, biology, distribution and vector activities have been given for all mentioned species.
During 2001 and 2002 in Novi Sad, the presence of Cinara curvipes (Patch) was observed on several Abies concolor trees and on individual branches of Cedrus atlantica. The finding is very interesting as this species is widely distributed in USA, Canada and Mexico. It is new in the aphid fauna of Serbia and Serbia is the second European country in which it has been identified.
PRESENCE OF NORTH AMERICAN APHID DREPANAPHIS ACERIFOLIAE (THOMAS, 1878) (HEMIPTERA: APHIDIDAE: DREPANOSIPHINAE) IN SERBIA
The painted maple aphid, Drepanaphis acerifoliae (Thomas, 1878), is present on Acer saccharinum L. (silver maple) in Serbia. It was found for the first time in 2019 in parks in Novi Sad, and in 2020 it was registered in Belgrade. It is a North American species that has been extending its distribution in Europe since 1992. Serbia is the fourth European country in which it has been found, following Italy, Spain and Hungary. Drepanaphis acerifoliae was found to be present on all examined A. saccharinum L. trees where it is usually very numerous. It was not found on A. platanoides L., A. campestre L., A. pseudoplatanus L. or A. negundo L. The morphology of viviparous parthenogenetic females, oviparous females and males is presented, with original drawings and photos
First Records of Two Species of the Genus Illinoia Wilson, 1910 (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in Bulgaria
Two aphid species of the genus Illinoia Wilson, 1910 are reported for the first time in Bulgaria, Illinoia (Illinoia) azaleae (Mason, 1925) and Illinoia (Masonaphis) lambersi (MacGillivray, 1960). They are pest mainly on Rhododendron sp. and were collected from important ornamental plants in two garden centres in Sofia and the village of Ravda, Burgas Region. The new records are provided with original illustrations based on Bulgarian materials
Let biljnih vaŔi, potencionalnih vektora virusa, u usevu lucerke u Srbiji
Flight activity of aphids as potential vectors of viral infection of alfalfa plants were monitored in Serbia for the first time in Europe. Research was conducted at the location Progar (Srem) for two years using six yellow water traps. A total of 1626 individual winged aphids were collected. The collected specimens were classified into 49 different taxa. During the two-year study, maximum population density of aphids and maximum potential vector activity were noted at the beginning of June, during the second alfalfa intercut. More than 65% of the collected specimens were potential vectors of the most important alfalfa viruses, Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). The most numerous winged aphid species on alfalfa were Aphis craccivora, Aphis fabae, Aphis gossypii, Aphis pomi/ spiraecola and Therioaphis trifolii. The Morisita-Horn similarity index was used to calculate similarities in species composition among the traps. High values of this index showed no significant differences among the aphids in traps. It indicates that one trap alone could provide good insight into the abundance, aphid diversity and number of potential vector species in small alfalfa fields.
Multivariate morphometric analysis was used to compare nine characteristics of 47 populations of Myzus persicae (Sulzer) originating from two host-plants, peach and tobacco, from 13 localities in 2004 and 34 localities in 2005, in Serbia and Montenegro. Multivariant discriminant analysis showed there to be a distinct discrimination between the populations from the peach and tobacco host-plants. The most important discrimination characteristics are the ultimate rostral segment length and processes terminalis length, which are greater in the aphids from tobacco than in those from peach. This is the first indication that in this part of Europe there are two subspecies: M. persicae (Sulzer) and M. persicae nicotianae Blackman.
Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are important pests of alfalfa all over the world. One of the most important ones is a blue alfalfa aphid - Acyrthosiphon kondoi Shinji. Morphology of the species is very similar to a green alfalfa aphid - Acyrthosipom pisum Harris. Saliva of A. kondoi is very toxic and this is why it is more important than other pest species. It can cause alfalfa wilting. Recently, A. kondoi was found in Europe, in Greece and France. It is expected to appear in other European countries. The presence of A. kondoi in Serbia was investigated from 2011 to 2015 on alfalfa and other host plants and it was not found.Biljne vaÅ”i (Hemiptera: Aphididae) svojom aktivnoÅ”Äu nanose znaÄajne ekonomske gubitke u proizvodnji lucerke Å”irom sveta.
