Memetic Aesthetics between Artistic Production and Cultural Heritage

Today there is nothing in the giant cauldron of the internet that doesn’t create an avalanche of memes in response. Considering memes as the result of the use of creativity to express ourselves, our humor, values and generally our understanding of the world, we can say that memes are a kind of digital and personal form of art with the purpose to involve creativity in the selection and manipulation of symbols, images and texts, to convey specific messages or emotions. But, what could be nowadays the relationship between artistic production and memetic aesthetics (the process behind memes creation and the ways in which these engage with and reinterpret cultural symbols and references)? and what could make memes a form of digital contemporary cultural heritage? The aim of this paper is trying to gain a deeper understanding of memes as multimodal artifacts that reflect and shape contemporary culture in the digital age

Is Inflation Persistence Over?

We analyze inflation persistence in several industrial and emerging countries in the recent past by estimating reduced-form models of inflation dynamics. We select a very representative group of 23 industrial and 17 emerging economies. Our sample period is comprised of quarterly data and starts in the first quarter of 1995. Our results show that inflation persistence is low and stable for all countries in our sample. It seems to be lower in industrial relative to emerging countries. Finally, even countries that have had “hyperinflation” experience in the recent past showed low levels of inflation persistence, albeit apparently higher than the other countries in our sample.

Inter-temporal discounting and uniform impatience

The uniform impatience hypothesis, a joint requirement on endowments and preferences, was imposed in the literature to prove equilibrium existence in infinite horizon sequential economies. Welfare-improving debt constraints

We show that in economies without liquidity frictions, but with incomplete financial markets, when agents are infinitely lived and uniformly impatient, money can still be essential (that is, have a positive price in equilibrium) if and only if each agent has binding debt constraints at some node of her life span. That is, contrary to what might be expected, in the absence of a very productive financial market, frictions induced by debt constraints create some room for improving efficiency, by allowing money to have a role in transferring wealth across dates and states of nature.Cashless economies, Binding debt constraints, Fundamental value of money.

Shitposting e Dadaismo: ideologie a confronto

In the context of digital culture, the practice of shitposting, while presenting a lack of unambiguity in the definition of the term, takes the form of an artistic manifestation whose purpose is to communicate through elements deemed culturally "trashy." Shitposting makes use of content taken mainly by media (in the form of texts, images and videos), developing a creative and experimental approach to contemporary cultural dynamics. Although for many it is still unthinkable to consider shitposting a full-fledged art form, at the same time it is possible to draw parallels with a particular artistic current: Dadaism. Just like the art movement, whose goal was to demolish conventional artistic and aesthetic norms through the use of unconventional assets and approaches, shitposting today represents a systematic effort aimed at ridiculing traditional online conventions through experimentation and the use of digital trash, characterized predominantly by the production of irreverent, provocative and irreverent memes. It is not surprisingly that contemporary digital participatory culture increasingly uses the evocative power of shitposting as an artistic expression to challenge social norms by focusing attention on political and cultural issues. DO PLANEJAMENTO À AVALIAÇÃO: UMA ANÁLISE DO PROCESSO DE IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DA GESTÃO ESTRATÉGICA EM UMA INSTITUIÇÃO FEDERAL DE ENSINO SUPERIOR

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar o processo de implementação da gestão estratégica, mais especificamente do ciclo de planejamento, em uma instituição de ensino superior. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva quanto ao objetivo, e qualitativa quanto ao problema de pesquisa. Quanto aos procedimentos é um estudo de caso realizado na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina no período: 2008-2011, período no qual os autores participaram da implementação do planejamento na instituição. Os dados foram coletados em documentos gerados durante o processo de construção/implementação do plano, bem como por meio de pesquisa participante. A análise corrobora com o referencial teórico pesquisado no que tange as dificuldades enfrentadas no período de implementação da gestão estratégica e da sua importância. Com relação aos fatores facilitadores do processo sugere-se que sejam mais profundamente analisados à luz do referencial teórico

Animação Experimental Híbrida: Quebra de Estilos como Expressão Artística

Controle Latero-Direcional de uma Aeronave Utilizando Técnicas de Controle Avançado

Engenharia de Controle e Automação.O trabalho em questão apresenta uma comparação entre duas técnicas de controle avançado que visam controlar os movimentos de rolamento e guinada de uma aeronave. Embora apresentem suas peculiaridades, ambas estratégias seguem uma metodologia de projeto bem definida: modelagem do processo, identificação de requisitos, definição da estrutura de controle, cálculo dos controladores e análise tanto de robustez quanto de performance do sistema. A primeira técnica, amplamente difundida na indústria aeronáutica, emprega uma variação do Regulador Linear Quadrático (LQR) com ajuste de Zeros de Transmissão para o cálculo dos ganhos de realimentação, enquanto a outra utiliza o Controle Preditivo Baseado em Modelo. Tomando por base um avião da classe executiva, realiza-se o contraste em diversos pontos de operação, utilizando sempre a abordagem no domínio linear. Por fim, os resultados são discutidos com base em critérios das melhores práticas do setor aeronáutico e em quesitos referentes à implementação de cada estratégia retratada.This works presents a comparison between two advanced control techniques that aim to control the movements of Roll and Yaw of an aircraft. Although they present their peculiarities, both strategies follow a well-defined design methodology: process modeling, requirements specification, definition of control law structure, controllers synthesis and analysis of robustness and performance. The first technique, widely used in the aeronautics industry, employs a variation of the Linear-Quadratic Regulator (LQR) with Transmission Zeros adjustment for the feedback gains calculation, while the other uses the Model Predictive Control. Based on an business aircraft, the comparison is performed at several operation points, always using the linear domain approach. Finally, the results are discussed based on best practices criteria of the aeronautical sector and in questions related to the implementation of each strategy

Fiat money and the value of binding portfolio constraints

We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the individual optimality of a consumption-portfolio plan in an infinite horizon economy where agents are uniformly impatient and fiat money is the only asset available for inter-temporal transfers of wealth. Next, we show that fiat money has a positive equilibrium price if and only if for some agent the zero short sale constraint is binding and has a positive shadow price (now or in the future). As there is always an agent that is long, it follows that marginal rates of inter-temporal substitution never coincide across agents. That is, monetary equilibria are never full Pareto efficient. We also give a counter-example illustrating the occurrence of monetary bubbles under incomplete markets in the absence of uniform impatience

Dos limites do crescimento à gestão da sustentabilidade no processo de desenvolvimento

Este trabalho apresenta uma síntese da evolução histórica e da ligação entre os conceitos de sustentabilidade e desenvolvimento, desde a percepção, ainda incipiente, da crise ambiental, ocorrida na década de 1960, até as mais recentes conferências do clima promovidas pela ONU. Após a introdução, o segundo item apresenta a evolução da percepção da crise ambiental pela sociedade até o entendimento de que existem limites ecológicos para o crescimento, dado o modelo vigente de desenvolvimento. O terceiro item aborda os conceitos de ecodesenvolvimento, conforme delineado por Sachs, passando pela inclusão da categoria territorial até chegar ao conceito de desenvolvimento territorial sustentável. No quarto item é vista a perspectiva do desenvolvimento sustentável, são analisados tanto a sua dimensão de conceito apaziguador proposta pela ONU, como os avanços ocorridos desde a década de 1990 até os dias atuais, sem deixar de expor o paradoxo de se almejar equilibrar crescimento econômico ilimitado com um meio ambiente que não se deteriore ou entre em colapso. Conclui-se com a constatação de não ser possível optar por uma única, estática e abrangente definição para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Por fim, fica o convite, ou provocação, para se repensar a ideia de sustentabilidade como elemento substantivo do desenvolvimento e não mais como seu adjetivo. Fica também a sugestão de exercitar a construção de novos modelos mentais e de governança, dado a declarada falência dos atuais
