    Performance analysis of hybrid 5G cellular networks exploiting mmWave capabilities in suburban areas

    Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology is considered as a key enabler for fifth generation (5G) networks to achieve higher data rates with low transmission power by offloading the users with low signal-to-noise-ratios. Millimeter wave networks operating at E and W frequency bands have available bandwidth of 1 GHz or more to provide higher data rates whereas their propagation characteristics differ greatly from the conventional Ultra High Frequency (UHF) networks operating at sub 6 GHz frequency band. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performance in terms of coverage and rate, of hybrid cellular networks where base stations (BSs) operating at mmWave and sub 6 GHz bands coexist in suburban environment such as a university campus. The actual building locations within a suburban university campus are modeled as blockages and the analysis is carried out for different densities of UHF and mmWave BSs for different densities of outdoor users. Our analysis also highlight the fact that mmWave cellular networks are predominantly noise-limited due to larger available bandwidth in comparison to the interference limited conventional UHF networks. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of dense deployment of mmWave BSs to achieve better coverage and rate probabilities in comparison to the stand alone UHF network

    Poverty, inflation and economic growth: empirical evidence from Pakistan

    This study aims to investigate the role of economic growth and inflation in explaining the prevalence of poverty in Pakistan. ARDL bound testing approach to co-integration confirms the existence of long run relationship among the variables of poverty, economic growth, inflation, investment and trade openness over the period of 1972-2008. Empirical results show that economic growth and investment have negative and inflation has positive impact on poverty. The effect of trade openness on poverty is insignificant in this study. The short run analysis reveals that economic growth has negative and inflation has positive impact on poverty whereas the role of investment and trade openness in poverty reduction in short run is not significant.Poverty, Inflation, Economic Grovvth, Pakistan, Macroeconomic Policy, Welfare, Trade Openness

    This study aims to analyse the relation between Advertisement Expenses and Bank’s Profitability by running certain type of tests which is related to statistical findings. Regression analysis, Correlation analysis, and descriptive statistical tests were taken to sort out the effect of Advertisement over Bank’s Profitability of Pakistan. Banking industry is one of the major industries of Pakistan’s Economy. For the growth of the economy, every sector must perform at their best for that purpose Advertisement play a major role in increasing customer knowledge and change the perception of customer towards products. To attract the customers Banks, spend thousands of Rupees on advertisement so they buy the products and, in the result, their revenue increases. This study mainly focusses on impact of advertisement on Bank’s Profitability that how much banks spend on Advertisement and how much they gain from that investment. According to the results Advertising Expenses have a positive impact on ROA, whereas it shows a negative impact on ROE

    Fibromuscular Dysplasia with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Disease Presenting as Acute Myocardial Infarction

    A 40-year-old female presented to a rural hospital with crushing substernal chest pain. An initial electrocardiogram showed ST elevation in lead II and aVF with elevated troponin I. She was immediately transferred to a tertiary care hospital. An emergent coronary angiogram did not show any significant coronary artery disease. On the second day, the patient experienced recurrence of severe chest pain with ST elevations in leads I, aVL, V5-V6, ST depressions in V1-V3, T-wave inversion over V2-V5. The troponin I level increased to \u3e 40 ng/ml (normal 0.0 to 0.04 ng/ml). An emergent angiogram was performed revealing local dissection of the mid to distal left main coronary artery and a totally occluded diagonal artery. It was deemed unsafe to perform percutaneous coronary intervention because it was a non-flow limiting left main coronary artery dissection and was difficult to cannulate with the guide catheter. Subsequently, an elective angiogram was performed after a 48-hour interval to evaluate the progression of dissection and to make a definitive decision for revascularization versus medical management. On the third angiogram, stenosis seen in the diagonal branch on the previous angiogram progressed to dissection, and local dissection of the left main coronary artery seen on the previous angiogram spontaneously resolved. The patient was symptom-free and hemodynamically stable. It was decided to manage the patient conservatively due to the spontaneous resolution of occlusion in the diagonal artery and dissection of the left main coronary artery. The patient was started on conservative medical treatment. A magnetic resonance angiography of the right internal carotid artery revealed a “string of beads” appearance, which confirmed the diagnosis of fibromuscular dysplasia. She was followed closely in the clinic and has remained asymptomatic for the past one year

    Secrecy Spectrum and Energy Efficiency Analysis in Massive MIMO-enabled Multi-Tier Hybrid HetNets

    Massive multiple antenna systems in conjunction with millimeter (mmWave) communication have gained tremendous attention in the recent years owing to their high speed data delivery. However, security in these networks has been overlooked; thereby necessitating a comprehensive study. This paper analyzes the physical layer security performance of the downlink of a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-based hybrid heterogeneous network (HetNet) where both mmWave and sub-6 GHz small cells coexist. Specifically, a tractable approach using stochastic geometry is proposed to analyze the secrecy outage probability, secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) and secrecy spectrum efficiency (SSE) of the hybrid HetNets. Our study further characterizes the impact of large antenna arrays, directional beamforming gains, transmit power, and cell density on the above mentioned secrecy performance measures. The results show that at low transmit power operation, the secrecy performance enhances for higher small cell density. It has also been observed that the higher directivity gains at mmWave cells lead to a drop in secrecy performance of the network; thus a tradeoff exists between better coverage or secrecy

    Long-term clinical and functional outcomes of distally based sural artery flap: A retrospective case series

    Background: Reconstruction of soft tissue defects around the lower leg, foot and ankle is a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. These defects commonly occur as a result of trauma, infection and tumor excision. Sural artery neurovascular island flap is a relatively thin, pliable and insensate flap with minimum donor-site morbidity and acceptable aesthetic outcome.Methods: A retrospective analysis of a case series was conducted, all operated by a single surgeon over a period of 25 years from July 1996 to February 2020. Data were collected through a structured proforma; the variables included were as follows: demographic data, mechanism of injury, defect site and size, size of flap, hospital stay, complications, outcome of flap and functional status of limb. Data analysis was performed by using SPSS version 25.0.Results: We included 89 patients out of 106, with 92 distally based sural artery flaps. The flap coverage was divided in two groups: group I for leg (n=41) and group II for foot (n=51). The mean flap dimension in leg was 9.98 ± 2.2 cm and 12.15 ± 3 cm in foot. Postoperatively functional outcomes were assessed using a self-designed tool and graded as excellent in 79 cases (leg=38; foot=41), good in 10 cases (leg=2; foot=8), fair in 3 cases (leg=1; foot=2) and poor in zero cases. All flaps survived uneventfully.Conclusion: The reverse sural artery flap is versatile and reliable, and can be performed easily with good knowledge and using a microsurgical technique. It is useful for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects around the lower third of the leg, dorsum of the foot, malleoli and hind foot. The functional range of motion of the ankle is not compromised because of the flap\u27s supple and pliable nature. The reverse sural artery flap is ideal for the coverage of the foot, ankle and lower one third of the leg. This flap is insensate and not suitable for the weight-bearing area of the heel

    UAV-assisted Cluster-head Selection Mechanism for Wireless Sensor Network Applications

    The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is gaining popularity in many applications, i.e. data collection, surveillance, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) etc. In the WSN domain, the UAVs are used to create a more flexible data-gathering platform. This integration maximizes the lifetime of a WSN by optimizing the energy budget. In this paper, we have utilized these benefits of UAVs and have proposed an optimum cluster head (CH) selection strategy to maximize the lifetime of WSNs. The proposed method uses the average residual energy, the channel condition and the Euclidean distance of each sensor node (SN) with a UAV to nominate a group of CHs. Based on the initial analytical analysis, the proposed scheme maximizes the lifetime of a WSN by a fair amount in comparison to the state-of-the-art methods

    Seed Treatment of Capsicum annuum with Two Different Fungicides to Evaluate the Seed Germination Rate

    Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is the fruit of plants, the Chili is susceptible for several diseases and seed borne fungi Phytophthora capsici which produces collar rot and root of chili. Seed borne pathogens are associated with untreated seeds of chili which are also significantly reduced the germination of seed. This experiment was conducted to find out the seed borne fungi and enhanced the germination of chili (Capsicum annuum) with two fungicides known as Mancozeb 80% WP and Carbendazim 50% WP. Effectiveness of these two fungicides were measured when the seeds planted on blotter paper in petri plates at 270C under lab conditions. These two fungicides significantly reduce the effect of seed borne fungi associated with chili seeds. Mancozeb 80% WP was found most effective to reduce the effect of seed borne fungi and increase the seed germination. Considering the results of the experiment, Mancozeb 80% WP was noted to be a best fungicide against the seed borne fungi.     Energy-Aware Resource Optimization for Improved URLLC in Multi-hop Integrated Aerial Terrestrial Networks

    The development of futuristic wireless infrastructure necessitates low power consumption, high relia- bility, and massive connectivity. One of the most promising solutions to address these requirements is the integration of aerial base station (ABS) based communication systems that employ both in the air (aerial) and on the ground (terrestrial) components. This integration enhances line of sight connections, enabling the fulfillment of escalating quality-of-service (QoS) demands. This article examines the problem of resource allocation in ABS assisted multi-hop wireless networks. We investigate a joint optimization problem that involves subcarrier (SC) assignment, power allocation, and blocklength allocation, subject to delay, reliability, and QoS constraints to improve the sum-rate under the finite blocklength (FBL) regime. We propose an approach for SC allocation and selection of cooperative ABSs based on matching theory. Subsequently, we employ an alternating optimization method to propose a novel bisection-based low-complexity adaptation (BLCA) algorithm to optimize the resource allocation policy. This algorithm includes a two-step projected gradient descent-based strategy to optimize the power allocation on each SC using dynamic and geometric programming. Furthermore, we examine flexible blocklength and power allocation use cases under the next generation of multiple access techniques. Monte-Carlo simulations validate that the proposed algorithmic solution significantly achieves a near-optimal solution while requiring 1600 times less computational cost compared to benchmarks in its counterparts

    Emission-aware Resource Optimization Framework for Backscatter-enabled Uplink NOMA Networks

    In the last decade, a sharp surge in the number of user proximity wireless devices (UPWDs) has been observed. This has increased the level of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure of the users substantially and hence, the possible physiological effects. Ambient backscatter communications (ABC) has appeared to be a promising solution to reduce the power consumption of UPWDs by converting ambient radio frequency (RF) signals into useful signals while non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a compelling multiplexing scheme for enhanced spectral efficiency. This chapter utilizes a novel combination of ABC and NOMA to reduce the EMF in the uplink of wireless communication systems. This contemporary approach of EMF‐aware resource optimization is based on k‐medoids and Silhouette analysis. To curtail the uplink EMF, a power allocation strategy is also derived by converting a non‐convex problem to a convex one and solving accordingly. The numerical results exhibit that the proposed ABC, NOMA, and unsupervised learning based scheme achieves a reduction in the EMF by at least 75% in comparison with the existing solutions
