    Charge radii and structural evolution in Sr, Zr, and Mo isotopes

    Get PDF
    The evolution of the ground-state nuclear shapes in neutron-rich Sr, Zr, and Mo isotopes, including both even-even and odd-A nuclei, is studied within a self-consistent mean-field approximation based on the D1S Gogny interaction. Neutron separation energies and charge radii are calculated and compared with available data. A correlation between a shape transition and a discontinuity in those observables is found microscopically. While in Sr and Zr isotopes the steep behavior observed in the isotopic dependence of the charge radii is a consequence of a sharp prolate-oblate transition, the smooth behavior found in Mo isotopes has its origin in an emergent region of triaxiality.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, to be published in Phys.

    Integrated study of factors affecting fetal weight in singleton pregnancies. Nomogram and development of basic and advanced fetal growth customized models

    Get PDF
    We have performed a multivariate analysis to explore the influence on birth and ultrasound fetal weight estimation of traditional factors as biochemical data and maternal characteristics in combination with non- traditionally explored predictors as paternal height, Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A), single umbilical artery or Free-beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (fß- HCG). The study was performed for a Spanish population (region of Aragon) in singleton pregnancies at term (37-42 weeks). Also, we have created a nomogram and in order to predict the occurrence of SGA (small for gestational age) and LGA (large for gestational age) cases we provide a multivariate predictive model of fetal weight that have been compared with other models in the prediction of ultrasound and birth weights. After study we have created a software application for automated calculation of percentile fetal weight, adjusting the variables when they were significant

    Fundamento. Determinar la adherencia al tratamiento con agentes estimulantes de la eritropoyesis (AEE) en pacientes con anemia asociada a enfermedad renal crónica (ERC), y valorar su relación con la respuesta frente a estos AEE. Material y métodos. Estudio retrospectivo, observacional, de una cohorte de 198 pacientes con ERC que iniciaron tratamiento con epoetina-ß o darbepoetina-a, seguidos durante dos años. Se registraron variables basales, de efectividad (% de consecución de objetivos de hemoglobina (Hb), incremento porcentual de Hb) y adherencia (tasa de posesión de medicación). Se consideró no adherente al paciente cuya adherencia fue <90%. Resultados. La adherencia global fue 89, 6%, ligeramente superior en darbepoetina-a que en epoetina-ß; el 8, 6% de los pacientes fueron no adherentes. El 87% cumplió el objetivo de Hb. Los valores de respuesta a AEE no variaron en función del grado de adherencia al tratamiento. Conclusiones. La adherencia al tratamiento con AEE fue buena, sin diferencias según la respuesta. Background. To establish adherence to treatment with erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESA) in patients with anemia associated to chronic kidney disease (CKD), and analyze its relationship to response to ESA. Methods. Retrospective study of a cohort of 198 patients with CKD who started treatment with epoetin-ß or darbepoetin-a, followed for two years. Basal charac-teristics, effectiveness (% of hemoglobin (Hb) target attainment, percentage increase of Hb) and adherence (medication possession rate) were registered. A non-adherent patient was one whose mean adherence was <90%. Results. Average global adhesion was 89.6%, slightly higher in treatment with darbepoetin-a than with epoetin-ß; 8.6% of patients were non-adherents. Hb target was accomplished in 87% cases. Level of response to ESA treatment was independent of the degree of adherence to treatment. Conclusions. Adherence to ESA treatment was good, without differences related to degree of response

    Extracting Br(omega->pi^+ pi^-) from the Time-like Pion Form-factor

    Full text link
    We extract the G-parity-violating branching ratio Br(omega->pi^+ pi^-) from the effective rho-omega mixing matrix element Pi_{rho omega}(s), determined from e^+e^- -> pi^+ pi^- data. The omega->pi^+ pi^- partial width can be determined either from the time-like pion form factor or through the constraint that the mixed physical propagator D_{rho omega}^{mu nu}(s) possesses no poles. The two procedures are inequivalent in practice, and we show why the first is preferred, to find finally Br(omega->pi^+ pi^-) = 1.9 +/- 0.3%.Comment: 12 pages (published version

    Inducible nitric oxide synthase in human lymphomononuclear cells activated by synthetic peptides derived from extracellular matrix proteins.

    Get PDF
    Synthetic peptides with sequences present in extracellular matrix proteins are capable of causing the expression of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), detected by immunocytochemistry, and the release of NO by human lymphomononuclear cells incubated in their presence. Active peptides are 15-mers containing a characteristic 2-6-11 motif in which the amino acid residue at position 2 is Leu, Ile, Val, Gly, Ala or Lys; the residue at position 6 is always Pro; and residue 11 is Glu or Asp. The induction of iNOS in human monocytes and macrophages could be involved in the cytotoxicity against tumor cell lines also elicited by these peptides

    Cost-Utility of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Fibromyalgia versus a Multicomponent Intervention and Usual Care: A 12-Month Randomized Controlled Trial (EUDAIMON Study)

    Fibromyalgia (FM) is a prevalent, chronic, disabling, pain syndrome that implies high healthcare costs. Economic evaluations of potentially effective treatments for FM are needed. The aim of this study was to analyze the cost-utility of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as an add-on to treatment-as-usual (TAU) for patients with FM compared to an adjuvant multicomponent intervention (FibroQoL) and to TAU. We performed an economic evaluation alongside a 12 month, randomized, controlled trial; data from 204 (68 per study arm) of the 225 patients (90.1%) were included in the cost-utility analyses, which were conducted both under the government and the public healthcare system perspectives. The main outcome measures were the EuroQol (EQ-5D-5L) for assessing Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) and improvements in health-related quality of life, and the Client Service Receipt Inventory (CSRI) for estimating direct and indirect costs. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were also calculated. Two sensitivity analyses (intention-to-treat, ITT, and per protocol, PPA) were conducted. The results indicated that MBSR achieved a significant reduction in costs compared to the other study arms (p < 0.05 in the completers sample), especially in terms of indirect costs and primary healthcare services. It also produced a significant incremental effect compared to TAU in the ITT sample (Delta QALYs = 0.053, p < 0.05, where QALYs represents quality-adjusted life years). Overall, our findings support the efficiency of MBSR over FibroQoL and TAU specifically within a Spanish public healthcare context
