HLA-Associated viral mutations are common in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 elite controllers
Elite controllers (EC) of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HTV-1) maintain viremia below the limit of detection without antiretroviral treatment. Virus-specific cytotoxic CD8+ T lymphocytes are believed to play a crucial role in viral containment, but the degree of immune imprinting and compensatory mutations in EC is unclear. We obtained plasma gag, pol, and nef sequences from HLA-diverse subjects and found that 30 to 40% of the predefined HLA-associated polymorphic sites show evidence of immune selection pressure in EC., compared to approximately 50% of the sites in chronic progressors. These data indicate ongoing viral replication and escape from cytotoxic T lymphocytes are present even in strictly controlled HTV-1 infection
Logic and/of Truthmaking
The purpose of this paper is to explore the question of how truthmaker theorists ought to think about their subject in relation to logic. Regarding logic and truthmaking, I defend the view that considerations drawn from advances in modal logic have little bearing on the legitimacy of truthmaker theory. To do so, I respond to objections Timothy Williamson has lodged against truthmaker theory. As for the logic of truthmaking, I show how the project of understanding the logical features of the truthmaking relation has led to an apparent impasse. I offer a new perspective on the logic of truthmaking that both explains the problem and offers a way out
Caracterización química del aceite y harina residual de Solanum sisymbriifolium lam
Seeds from Solanum sisymbriifolium Lam harvested at Olavarría (Buenos Aires, Argentine) were defatted with hexane and the raw oil obtained with a yield of 20,6 % dry basis. The physicochemical characteristics of crude oil were: refractive index: 1,4610 (at 25ºC), iodine value: 112,8; saponification index: 170,0; unsaponifiable matter: 14,0 % and free fatty acid content: 2,4 (mg KOH/g). The fatty acid composition of seed oil was studied by gas-liquid chromatography. Major fatty acids of seed oil were: linoleic (52,3%), oleic (23,4 %) and palmitic acid (16,4 %). The residual seed meal contained moderate level of crude protein (14,75%, dry basis), low level of available lysine (2,25 g/16gN) and high content of crude fiber (51,5%, dry basis). Total and phytic acid phosphorous, calcium, ash, sugar and polysaccharides contents are reported.Semillas de Solanum sisymbriifolium Lam cosechadas en Olavarría (prov. de Buenos Aires, Argentina) se trataron con hexano (soxhlet) obteniéndose el aceite crudo (rendimiento:20,6%) y la harina residual de extracción. Las características fisicoquímicas del aceite crudo fueron: Índice de refracción: 1.4610 (a 25ºC); Índice de iodo: 112,8; Índice de saponificación: 170,0; Insaponificable: 14,0%, Índice de acidez: 2,4 (mgKOH/g). Se determinó la composición acídica del aceite por cromatografía gas-líquido. Los ácidos grasos mayoritarios fueron: ácido linoleico (52,3%), ácido oleico (23,4%) y ácido palmítico (16,4%). La harina residual de extracción contenía una moderada proporción de proteína cruda (14,75% b.s), baja proporción de lisina disponible (2,25 g/16gN) y un alto contenido de fibra cruda (51,5 %b.s). Clinical Approach to Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis: A Spanish Delphi Consensus
Despite emerging evidence and advances in the management of atopic dermatitis there a lack of consensus regarding the diagnostic criteria, therapeutic approach, method to assess severity, and patient follow-up for this condition. An expert consensus study was conducted to provide recommendations on the management of patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. The study used Delphi-like methodology based on a literature review, a summary of the scientific evidence, and a 2-round survey. The agreement of 60 panellists on 21 statements was evaluated. Consensus was pre-defined as ≥ 80% agreement of all respondents. In the first round 6 statements reached consensus. Unanimous consensus was achieved regarding therapeutic goals and patient satisfaction (maintained in the long term and periodic goals reassessment recommended every 3-6 months). In the second round, half of the statements reached consensus, all related to patient follow-up, treatment goals, and atopic comorbidities. The statements that did not reach consensus were related to diagnosis (biomarkers, allergy, and food testing) and starting patients on conventional systemic treatment rather than advanced treatment. The study assessed expert opinion regarding a variety of topics related to the clinical approach to patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, in order to provide guidance on the diagnosis and management of patients with atopic dermatitis
Multivisceral intestinal transplantation: Surgical pathology
We report the diagnostic surgical pathology of two children who underwent multivisceral abdominal transplantation and survived for 1 month and 6 months. There is little relevant literature, and diagnostic criteria for the various clinical possibilities are not established; this is made more complicated by the simultaneous occurrence of more than one process. We based our interpretations on conventional histology, augmented with immunohistology, including HLA staining that distinguished graft from host cells in situ. In some instances functional analysis of T cells propagated from the same biopsies was available and was used to corroborate morphological interpretations. A wide spectrum of changes was encountered. Graft-versus-host disease, a prime concern before surgery, was not seen. Rejection was severe in 1 patient, not present in the other, and both had evidence of lymphoproliferative disease, which was related to Epstein-Barr virus. Bacterial translocation through the gut wall was also a feature in both children. Non-perturbative calculation of the probability distribution of plane-wave transmission through a disordered waveguide
A non-perturbative random-matrix theory is applied to the transmission of a
monochromatic scalar wave through a disordered waveguide. The probability
distributions of the transmittances T_{mn} and T_n=\sum_m T_{mn} of an incident
mode n are calculated in the thick-waveguide limit, for broken time-reversal
symmetry. A crossover occurs from Rayleigh or Gaussian statistics in the
diffusive regime to lognormal statistics in the localized regime. A
qualitatively different crossover occurs if the disordered region is replaced

Mixing Bandt-Pompe and Lempel-Ziv approaches: another way to analyze the complexity of continuous-states sequences
In this paper, we propose to mix the approach underlying Bandt-Pompe
permutation entropy with Lempel-Ziv complexity, to design what we call
Lempel-Ziv permutation complexity. The principle consists of two steps: (i)
transformation of a continuous-state series that is intrinsically multivariate
or arises from embedding into a sequence of permutation vectors, where the
components are the positions of the components of the initial vector when
re-arranged; (ii) performing the Lempel-Ziv complexity for this series of
`symbols', as part of a discrete finite-size alphabet. On the one hand, the
permutation entropy of Bandt-Pompe aims at the study of the entropy of such a
sequence; i.e., the entropy of patterns in a sequence (e.g., local increases or
decreases). On the other hand, the Lempel-Ziv complexity of a discrete-state
sequence aims at the study of the temporal organization of the symbols (i.e.,
the rate of compressibility of the sequence). Thus, the Lempel-Ziv permutation
complexity aims to take advantage of both of these methods. The potential from
such a combined approach - of a permutation procedure and a complexity analysis
- is evaluated through the illustration of some simulated data and some real
data. In both cases, we compare the individual approaches and the combined

How Phase-Breaking Affects Quantum Transport Through Chaotic Cavities
We investigate the effects of phase-breaking events on electronic transport
through ballistic chaotic cavities. We simulate phase-breaking by a fictitious
lead connecting the cavity to a phase-randomizing reservoir and introduce a
statistical description for the total scattering matrix, including the
additional lead. For strong phase-breaking, the average and variance of the
conductance are calculated analytically. Combining these results with those in
the absence of phase-breaking, we propose an interpolation formula, show that
it is an excellent description of random-matrix numerical calculations, and

Saccharomyces cerevisiae como agente probiótico e possível adsorvente de aflatoxina B1 em condições simuladas do trato intestinal de peixes
The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the probiotic potential and absorption of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the aflatoxin B1 in simulated fish intestinal tract conditions. Three yeast strains were used, two from brewery: S. cerevisiae RC1 and S. cerevisiae RC3 and one from a fish farming environment: S. cerevisiae A8L2. The selected yeasts were subjected to the following in vitro tests: homologous inhibition, self-aggregation, co-aggregation, antibacterial activity, gastrointestinal conditions tolerance and adsorption of AFB1. All S. cerevisiae strains showed good capability of self-aggregation and co-aggregation with pathogenic bacteria. All yeast strains were able to survive the gastrointestinal conditions. In acidic conditions, the factors (strain vs. time) had interaction (P=0.0317), resulting in significant variation among the strains tested in the time periods analyzed. It was observed that there was also interaction (P=0.0062) in intestinal conditions, with an increased number of cells in the 12-hour period for all strains tested. In the adsorption test, the A8L2 strain was statistically more effective (P<0.005) for both AFB1 concentrations evaluated in this study (10 and 25ng/mL). Thus, it was observed that the strains of S. cerevisiae have potential probiotic and adsorbent of AFB1.Objetivou-se, com esta pesquisa, avaliar in vitro o potencial probiótico e adsorvente de Saccharomyces cerevisiae para aflatoxina B 1 em condições simuladas do trato intestinal de peixes. Foram utilizadas três cepas de leveduras, sendo duas provenientes de cervejaria: S. cerevisiae RC1 e S. cerevisiae RC3, e uma de ambiente de piscicultura: S. cerevisiae A8L2. As leveduras selecionadas foram submetidas aos seguintes testes in vitro: inibição homóloga, autoagregação, coagregação, atividade antibacteriana, viabilidade às condições gastrointestinais e adsorção de AFB 1 . Todas as estirpes de S. cerevisiae mostraram boa capacidade de autoagregação e coagregação com bactérias patogênicas. Todas as estirpes de levedura foram capazes de sobreviver às condições gastrointestinais. Em condições ácidas, os fatores (cepa x tempo) tiveram interação (P=0,0317), resultando em variações significativas entre as cepas testadas nos períodos de tempo analisados. Observou-se que também houve interação (P=0,0062) em condições intestinais, havendo um aumento do número de células no período de 12h para todas as cepas avaliadas. No ensaio de adsorção, a estirpe A8L2 foi a mais eficaz estatisticamente (P<0,005), para as duas concentrações de AFB 1 avaliadas neste estudo (10 e 25ng. mL -1 ). Hydrodynamic Models of Line-Driven Accretion Disk Winds III: Local Ionization Equilibrium
We present time-dependent numerical hydrodynamic models of line-driven
accretion disk winds in cataclysmic variable systems and calculate wind
mass-loss rates and terminal velocities. The models are 2.5-dimensional,
include an energy balance condition with radiative heating and cooling
processes, and includes local ionization equilibrium introducing time
dependence and spatial dependence on the line radiation force parameters. The
radiation field is assumed to originate in an optically thick accretion disk.
Wind ion populations are calculated under the asumption that local ionization
equilibrium is determined by photoionization and radiative recombination,
similar to a photoionized nebula. We find a steady wind flowing from the
accretion disk. Radiative heating tends to maintain the temperature in the
higher density wind regions near the disk surface, rather than cooling
adiabatically. For a disk luminosity Ldisk = Lsun, white dwarf mass Mwd = 0.6
Msun, and white dwarf radii Rwd = 0.01 Rsun, we obtain a wind mass-loss rate of
dMwind/dt =4E-12 Msun/yr, and a terminal velocity of ~ 3000 km/s. These results
confirm the general velocity and density tructures found in our earlier
constant ionization equilibrium adiabatic CV wind models. Further we establish
here 2.5D numerical models that can be extended to QSO/AGN winds where the
