    Spin inversion devices with Fano anti-resonances

    Analyzing spin transport of quasi-2D electrons gas moving through a semiconductor wave guide subject to a sectionally homogeneous tilted magnetic field, we found well-defined selection rules for resonant and antiresonant spin carrier transmission. Based on these selection rules and the band shift induced by the magnetic field strength and the tilting angles, we propose an efficient spin inversion device. For a polarized incoming electron beam, we can determine from our theoretical approach, physical conditions for spin-inversion efficiency up to 80%. We visualize this mechanism in terms of conductance and the spacial behavior of the wave function amplitude along the superlattice.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, regular pape

    Quantum Dissipation due to the Interaction with Chaos

    We discuss the possibility of having "quantum dissipation" due to the interaction with chaotic degrees of freedom. We define the conditions that should be satisfied in order to have a dissipative effect similar to the one due to an interaction with a (many body) bath. We also compare with the case where the environment is modeled by a random matrix model. In case of interaction with "chaos" we observe a regime where the relaxation process is non-universal, and reflects the underlaying semiclassical dynamics.     Self-similarity of single-channel transmission for electron transport in nanowires

    We demonstrate that the single-channel transmission in the resonance tunneling regime exhibits self-similarity as a function of the nanowire length and the energy of incident electrons. The self-similarity is used to design the nonlinear transformation of the nanowire length and energy which, on the basis of known values of transmission for a certain region on the energy-length plane, yields transmissions for other regions on this plane. Test calculations with a one-dimensional tight-binding model illustrate the described transformations. Density function theory based transport calculations of Na atomic wires confirm the existence of the self-similarity in the transmission
