En unos pocos años el precio de los dispositivos WLANha bajado lo suficiente como para que se plantee su adquisición para usos domésticos. Aun así el precio del punto de acceso o AP (Access Point) sigue siendo elevado, y en la mayoría de casos su capacidad sobrepasa los pequeños requerimientos de una red inalámbrica doméstica.     Android climbed up to 80 percent of the smartphone and mobile devices market share. One of the key aspects for the acceptance of a mobile OS is the security degree the user perceives from the system. In this article, we explore some of the important security mechanisms implemented in Google Android through the study of several recent vulnerabilities. Particularly, we discuss a recent security issue in WhatsApp, the dangers of connecting devices to external machines and the security of current mechanisms for access control. We describe these vulnerabilities through in-lab proof-of-concepts.     Knowledge sharing in the health scenario

    The understanding of certain data often requires the collection of similar data from different places to be analysed and interpreted. Interoperability standards and ontologies, are facilitating data interchange around the world. However, beyond the existing networks and advances for data transfer, data sharing protocols to support multilateral agreements are useful to exploit the knowledge of distributed Data Warehouses. The access to a certain data set in a federated Data Warehouse may be constrained by the requirement to deliver another specific data set. When bilateral agreements between two nodes of a network are not enough to solve the constraints for accessing to a certain data set, multilateral agreements for data exchange are needed. We present the implementation of a Multi-Agent System for multilateral exchange agreements of clinical data, and evaluate how those multilateral agreements increase the percentage of data collected by a single node from the total amount of data available in the network. Different strategies to reduce the number of messages needed to achieve an agreement are also considered. The results show that with this collaborative sharing scenario the percentage of data collected dramaticaly improve from bilateral agreements to multilateral ones, up to reach almost all data available in the network.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    A methodology to introduce sustainability into the Final Year Project to foster sustainable engineering projects

    The introduction of sustainability skills into higher education curricula is a natural effect of the increasing importance of sustainability in our daily lives. Topics like green computing, sustainable design or environmental engineering have become part of the knowledge required by today’s engineers. Furthermore, we strongly believe that the introduction of this skill will eventually enable future engineers to develop sustainable products, services and projects. The Final Year Project is the last academic stage facing students and a step towards their future professional engineering projects. As such, it constitutes a rehearsal for their professional future and an ideal opportunity for reflecting on whether their Final Year Project is sustainable or not, and to what extent. It also provides a good tool for reviewing the lessons learned about sustainability during the degree course and for applying them in a holistic and integrated way.     Correlation study between the access mark and the performance in project-based and standard courses

    The access mark to engineering studies is often used as an a priori success estimator. In our institution, we have observed that the correlation of the access mark with the grades obtained in project-based courses (R=0.52) is slightly lower than the one obtained with the average of the other non-project-based courses (R=0.58), and is especially low in capstone projects (R=0.31). Project-based and Challenge-based courses are one of the most acknowledged ways of promoting the learning of transversal skills, specifically innovation and entrepreneurship skills. In our institution, ICT engineering bachelor students perform a project-courses path, with three subjects of growing complexity in the 2nd, 3d and 4th year. While the first two are partially guided and with challenges proposed by the faculty members, the 3d one is a 12 ECTS capstone project with challenges proposed by industry or external institutions. In this study, we have analyzed the performance of the students along 10 academic years (2011-2012 to 2020-2021). Not only the correlation with the access mark in these courses is lower but the prediction interval is also different. While it is almost impossible that a student with a low access mark gets an outstanding average mark in the bachelor and vice-versa, there are students with a low access mark which have an outstanding performance in the capstone project and students with a very high access mark and with high results in analytical courses but with a poor performance in capstone projects. Therefore, a different kind of skills are promoted in these courses
