An Evaluation of Envy within Adolescent Friendships
Envy may be an unexplored component of adolescent social relationships. The main goal of the study was to determine if envy is experienced to a higher degree between best friends than with non-friends. A second goal was to assess the correlations between envy and friendship characteristics. A total of 109 seventh-grade students responded to 3 questionnaires, the Friendship Grid, the Best Friend/Non-Friend Envy Survey and the Friendship Qualities Questionnaire. No significant differences were found between reported envy for friends and non-friends. Envy significantly correlated with conflict (p \u3c .01) and exclusivity (p \u3c .05). A major challenge for future research is to develop a more accurate measure of envy-a survey format may not be the most useful technique. The relationship between envy and conflict and exclusivity demonstrates the importance of further research of envy in order to better understand the potentially negative effects of envy on friendships

Метою педагогічної терапії є вплив через педагогічні методи (навчальні та дидактичні) на причини і прояви таких труднощів у навчанні, що часто є причиною неуспішності дітей та призводить до негативних наслідків. Застосування когнітив-ної терапії є одним з ефективних способів впливу. Коригування спотворених когнітивних схем позитивно впливає на зміни у сфері освіти та соціальної компетенції дітей з труднощами в навчанні.
(Numerous researches indicate the relation of learning difficulties with behaviour disorders and deficits within social skills, as a display of negative effects of such difficulties. The task of a pedagogic therapy is impacting through pedagogic means (educational and didactic) the causes and demonstrations of children's difficulties in learning, aiming at the elimination of school failures and their negative consequences. Application of a cognitive therapy proves to be one of the effective ways of action within this area. Liquidating distorted cognitive schemas it positively affects changes in education and social competences of children with learning difficulties.
Team-Based Decision-Making in an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): Are Pre-Licensure Healthcare Students “Collaborative Practice-Ready”?
Evaluation of pre-licensure students’ competency in team-based decision-making is lacking. The purposes of this study were to evaluate pre-licensure pharmacy students’ competency in team-based decision-making in the context of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), and to determine whether performance correlated with reflective assignment scores. Students’ self-assessment and conceptualization of team-based decision-making in practice was also evaluated. Twenty-three pre-licensure pharmacy students’ competency in team-based decision-making was evaluated in an OSCE station and with a reflective journal assignment; rubric scores for both evaluations were compared using Spearman’s rank order analysis. Students completed an 18-item questionnaire regarding attitudes, confidence, and perceptions related to team-based decision-making. Descriptive statistics and construct analysis with open coding were used to analyse questionnaire results. Mean OSCE station and reflective journal scores were 45% and 66.3%, respectively, and were not correlated. Students’ attitudes toward team-based decision-making were positive, and they reported performing associated behaviours during experiential education rotations. Students appropriately defined ‘team-based decision-making’ and were highly confident in performing related activities. However, students’ conceptualization of team-based decision-making did not align with the pharmacy program’s competency framework. Three key themes were identified through the study analyses: 1) student performance is dependent on assessment context when evaluating collaborator-related competencies; 2) there is a mismatch between students’ perceived competency and objectively measured competence when collaborator outcomes were assessed within an OSCE; and 3) students’ perceptions of team-based decision-making do not align with the program’s competency framework. Future research is necessary to assess competency and perceptions of team-based decision-making in students from other healthcare professions, and to further evaluate whether pre-licensure students are “collaborative practice ready”.

Smell of Infection:a novel, non-invasive method for detection of fish excretory- secretory proteins
Chemical signals are produced by aquatic organisms following predatory attacks or perturbations such as parasitic infection. Ectoparasites feeding on fish hosts are likely to cause release of similar alarm cues into the environment due to the stress, wounding, and immune response stimulated upon infection. Alarm cues are often released in the form of proteins, antimicrobial peptides, and immunoglobulins that provide important insights into bodily function and infection status. Here we outline a noninvasive method to identify potential chemical cues associated with infection in fish by extracting, purifying, and characterizing proteins from water samples from cultured fish. Gel free proteomic methods were deemed the most suitable for protein detection in saline water samples. It was confirmed that teleost proteins can be characterized from water and that variation in protein profiles could be detected between infected and uninfected individuals and fish and parasite only water samples. Our novel assay provides a noninvasive method for assessing the health condition of both wild and farmed aquatic organisms. Similar to environmental DNA monitoring methods, these proteomic techniques could provide an important tool in applied ecology and aquatic biology
A Standardized Narrative Profile Approach to Self-Reflection and Assessment of Cross-Cultural Communication
Objectives: 1) to explore clinical assessor’s values regarding behaviours related to cultural aspects of care, 2) to generate standardized narrative profiles regarding cultural behavioural outcomes within clinical teaching settings, and 3) to rank order standardized narrative profiles according to performance expectations.
Methods: Ten interviews were completed with clinicians to determine values and performance expectations for culturally competent behaviours. Transcripts were produced and coded. Six narrative profiles were developed based on data obtained. Twenty clinicians categorized profiles according to performance expectations and rank ordered. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) determined inter-rater reliability. Clinicians rated usability of profiles in clinical training settings.
Results: Eighteen categories were coded with communication, awareness and ability most frequently reported with each ranging from 9.6-11.5% of the utterances. Consensus for categorization of all profiles was achieved at a level of 70% (ICC = 0.837, 95% CI 0.654-0.969). High inter-rater reliability was achieved for rank ordering (ICC = 0.815, 95% CI 0.561 to 0.984). Seventeen (85%) clinicians agreed that the profiles would be usable in clinical training settings.
Conclusions: Standardized narrative profiles may aid assessment and self-reflection for student performance within culturally diverse interactions.

Patient-Specific Prosthetic Fingers by Remote Collaboration - A Case Study
The concealment of amputation through prosthesis usage can shield an amputee
from social stigma and help improve the emotional healing process especially at
the early stages of hand or finger loss. However, the traditional techniques in
prosthesis fabrication defy this as the patients need numerous visits to the
clinics for measurements, fitting and follow-ups. This paper presents a method
for constructing a prosthetic finger through online collaboration with the
designer. The main input from the amputee comes from the Computer Tomography
(CT) data in the region of the affected and the non-affected fingers. These
data are sent over the internet and the prosthesis is constructed using
visualization, computer-aided design and manufacturing tools. The finished
product is then shipped to the patient. A case study with a single patient
having an amputated ring finger at the proximal interphalangeal joint shows
that the proposed method has a potential to address the patient's psychosocial
concerns and minimize the exposure of the finger loss to the public.Comment: Open Access articl

Gaze processing deficits are a seminal, early, and enduring behavioral deficit in autism spectrum disorder (ASD); however, a comprehensive characterization of the neural processes mediating abnormal gaze processing in ASD has yet to be conducted. This study investigated whole-brain patterns of neural synchrony during passive viewing of direct and averted eye gaze in ASD adolescents and young adults (M Age = 16.6) compared to neurotypicals (NT) (MAge = 17.5) while undergoing magnetoencephalography. Coherence between each pair of 54 brain regions within each of three frequency bands (low frequency (0 to 15 Hz), beta (15 to 30 Hz), and low gamma (30 to 45 Hz)) was calculated

Association of candidate gene polymorphisms with clinical subtypes of preterm birth in a Latin American population
Background. Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. PTB is often classified according to clinical presentation: Idiopathic (PTB-I), preterm premature rupture of membranes (PTB-PPROM), and medically induced (PTBM).
The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between specific candidate genes and clinical subtypes of PTB.
Methods. 24 SNPs were genotyped in 18 candidate genes in 709 infant triads. Of them, 243 were PTB-I, 256 PTB-PPROM, and 210 PTB-M. These data were analyzed with a Family-Based Association.
Results. PTB was nominally associated with rs2272365 in PON1, rs883319 in KCNN3, rs4458044 in CRHR1, and rs610277 in F3. Regarding clinical subtypes analysis, 3 SNPs were associated with PTB-I (rs2272365 in PON1, rs10178458 in COL4A3, and rs4458044 in CRHR1), rs610277 in F3 was associated with PTBPPROM, and rs883319 in KCNN3 and rs610277 in F3 were associated with PTB-M.
Conclusions. Our study identified polymorphisms potentially associated with specific clinical subtypes of PTB in this Latin American population. These results could suggest a specific role of such genes in the mechanisms involved in each clinical subtype. Further studies are required to confirm our results and to determine the role of these genes in the pathophysiology of clinical subtypes
